ThePMP450Systemcreatesapointtomultipointwirelessbroadbandconnectiontransmittingaradio
signalwithOFDMmodulationandMIMOtransmissiontechnique.

OFDM(OrthogonalFrequencyDivisionmultiplexing)isamulticarrierradiosignalmodulationbasedon
thesubdivisionofthebroadbandchannelintoorthogonallypositionedsubcarriers,eachofwhichis
modulatedbasedonaconventionalmodulationscheme.WiththeOFDMtechnique,averyhighdata
ratecanbeobtainedincreasingthesystemsspectrumefficiency.
ThefollowingarethesubcarriersmodulationschemeswhichcanbeusedbythePMP450System:
QPSK
16QAM
64QAM

TheOFDMchannelbandwidthcanbeconfiguredwithoneoftwopossiblevalues:10MHzand20MHz
(with5MHzchannelbandwidthsupportplannedforafuturerelease).20MHzchannelbandwidth
configurationsallowforgreaterconnectioncapacityasthesignaloccupiesalargerportionofthe
spectrum.Narrowerchannelbandwidths(10MHzor5MHz)increasereceptionsensitivityandallowfor
moreopportunitiestooperateinspectrumconstrainedRFenvironments.
ThechannelbandwidthmustbeconfiguredwiththesamevaluesinboththeAPandSMmodulesofthe
PMP450System.

MIMO(MultipleInputMultipleOutput)radiotransmissionoffersthecapabilityofincreasingthe
capacityofaradioconnectionbytransmittingandreceivingparallelsignalsonseparateTx/Rxchains.
WhenthebenefitsoftheMIMOtechniquesarecombinedwithOFDMsignalingandhighsystemgain,
operatorscanachieveahighlyrobustradioconnectioninconditionsofnonlineofsight(NLOS)
propagation.ThePMP450SystemusesMIMO2x2withtworadioreceiversandtwotransmittersin
boththeAPmoduleandtheSMmodule,transmittinginbothdirectionstworadiosignalsinthesame
frequency.Onesignalisverticallypolarizedandtheothersignalishorizontallypolarized,withMatrixB

signalandtheotherbywayofthehorizontallypolarizedradiosignal.Inthisway,thePMP450System
doublesitstransmissioncapacity.
