My Journey to Effective Communication

A lot of important writing, teamwork, and communication skills were covered in my

English 1302 class. This class has helped me become a better writer and has taught me too

effectively relay my thoughts in a useful way. I have taken a good amount of knowledge away

from this particular class; I know that from the material and experience I have gained in this

class, that I will go on to become a more successful writer in my future classes and career. My

English 1302 class with Mrs. Moore has helped me learn more about effective communication

through class discussions, formatting my proposal, and short academic responses.

The discussions that were held during this class contributed to my new found knowledge

of more effective communication. I thoroughly enjoyed coming to my English class because of

these discussions. We had some discussions that would contradict each other, but this taught us to

be more persuasive by using evidence to back our thoughts. This was beneficial in the drafting of

my essays for this class. It was beneficial because I was able to relay the messages in a sensitive,

yet accretive way without damaging any credibility gained.

The process of formatting my essay of my proposal also gave me a vast knowledge on

effective communication. During the early stages of writing my proposal essay we went over in

class how to address the topic without upsetting the opposing viewers. My topic for my proposal

was the renewal of horse slaughter. The United States government should relegalize horse

slaughter because it will reduce the number of unwanted horses, decrease horse neglect, produce

job opportunities, and create income. Learning to relay my topic to the opposing viewers helped

me tremendously because my topic was a sensitive matter.

The short academic responses helped to strengthen my communication skills as well. Our

short academic responses covered a number of different topics. These responses were designed

to help prepare us for the writing of our more important essays. I feel that the short academic

responses did exactly that. I think the last short academic response helped me the most because I

was able to get a good start on my proposal from it.

I really enjoyed this class. If I had to take it over again I would do it in a heartbeat. Mrs.

Moore was amazing and Im really going to miss having her as a teacher. That being said, she

made learning and writing so much more fun. I feel like this class has helped develop my writing

skills in such a way that I will be more successful in my future. Although this class was

challenging at times, I gained a lot of useful communication and writing skills. I am definitely

going into my next semester of college with more confidence in my writing and communicating

skills. This English 1302 class with Mrs. Moore has taught me more about effective

communication through class discussions, formatting essays, and short academic responses than

I ever thought possible.
