(Next tab- Introduction)

T: Teacher reads the Introduction aloud to the whole class.

Hello team! Welcome to Pleasantville! Members of our community are panicking

because they don't know who to call for help. Our community has hired your team of experts to
investigate and dispatch the correct community helper provided to help Pleasantville's
concerned/worried members. After dispatching the correct community helper, your team will
present a final report that includes each community helper's job to our Board of Directors. This
report will be a future reference to help members figure out who to call the next time they get
stuck in a situation.

T: Places student in teams of four according to their group assigned seating already.

(Next tab: Task)

13

T: Reads aloud the Tasks to the whole class.

Community helpers include Dentists, plumbers, farmers, mail carriers, teachers, firefighters,
police officers, doctors, chefs, chemist, hairdressers, and veterinarians.

It is your job as a team to identify and search for the correct community helper that can help the
members that need assistance or help in the Pleasantville community. Your team of expertise is
also required to present a report the jobs of each community helper so the Pleasantville
community will know who to call the next time they are in need of assistance or help.

Together as a team you are going to go on a journey to learn about our community workers. By
the end of your quest, you will be able to:

1. The students will appreciate and know the importance of community helpers in our
communities.

2. Identify and understand what each community helper does and how they help our
community.

3. Student will develop and increase their thinking skills and creative skills.

4. Students will improve on their use of the internet and research for resources.

(Next tab: The Process)

T: Teacher reads aloud the Process to the whole class.

1. Who and what is a community helper?

2. Each student in your group will then pick a community helper that inspires you most or
interests you. You will then write about what are the jobs of the community helper you
chose.

3. Draw and color a picture of the community helper you picked.

4. Below are scenarios of people in the community that need help. It is your job to identify
the correct community helper that can help them. Remember to use your notes from your
research to help you.

Match the following people with the correct Community Helper.

Betty: Help! My house is on fire!"

Tom: "I have a toothache"

14

Sandy: "My dog is sick"

Mrs. Cahill: "Tammy needs help with her math homework"

Emily: "I need some help to make a flower and vegetable garden"

Amanda: "I need a new hairstyle makeover"

Mr. Billy: Help! My kitchen is flooded!"

The Leon family: "My whole family need the flu shots"

Ashley: Can anyone teach me how to make lasagna?

Jack: Help! Someone broke into my house!"

Anna: "I need help with some formulas for my project"

David: "I need to deliver a package to Ohio"

*You may use any of the following website links to research your community helper of your
choice. Research what their job is and how can they help our community. You will need that for
your report that your team will be presenting to the class.
