To Whom It May Concern

It is a pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for John Alec Propes. John is currently in my
Child Development class and he was in my Health/Family Living class in his junior year. I also
had him in advisory during his sophomore year. I have known John since August 2014. As a
student, he consistently demonstrates qualities that will enable him to be successful. He
maintains a good attendance record; he is always attentive and follows directions well. He
completes all assignments in a timely manner. John works well on both individual and group
projects, working effectively and cooperatively with fellow students. He consistently participates
in class and expresses himself well in both writing and speaking. He is inquisitive, engaging in
thought-provoking dialogue consistently.

John sets high expectations for himself which are demonstrated in his work ethic and grades.
His consistent grades demonstrate his ability to focus on academics, his desire to learn and his
adaptability overall. He has maintained a 3.7 GPA in upper level/AP classes, ranked in the top
11% of his class of approximately 370 students. John has been a CSF member for six of seven
semesters. CSF is a California scholarship institution that emphasizes high standards of
scholarship and community service for high school students. In his senior year he was a
member of The National Society of High School Scholars. This programs mission is to
recognize academic excellence among high school students and to encourage members to
apply their unique talents, vision, and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world.
The organization works at providing resources to students in an effort to help them succeed in
moving toward postsecondary education.

John stands out as a student athlete. He has been an outstanding student athlete all four
years. As a student athlete he had to be consistent with his academics and attendance. He is
diligent and prioritizes well. He has been an integral member of the water polo team all four
years. He was also on the varsity swim team during his freshman and sophomore year. In his
freshman year, John was the JV water polo captain and named MVP. He was honored with
varsity swimming MVP in his freshman and sophomore years.
John has served approximately 57 hours of community service. He has volunteered at the
Merced City Police Department, Merced Homeless Shelter, St. Paul Lutheran School Pancake
Breakfast, local political fundraisers. In addition, he has worked at a local dental office and
served as a lifeguard during the summer months.

John plans to pursue a degree in communications with a minor in political science. He is

exploring multiple areas of interest based on his strengths. His overall career goals include
political science, law, becoming a Speaker of the House, and pharmaceutical sales. John is a
well-rounded, passionate and loyal young man. His strict attention to details, ambition,
discernment, maturity and wisdom will all continue to take him far in his college and future
career. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
