(2015). Associations Between Antibullying Policies and Bullying in 25 States. JAMA Pediatrics,

This was an observational study that was conducted using adolescent teens in the grades 9th
through 12th, and spanning over 25 states. Researchers wanted to see if each of their state
legislations for anti-bullying was effective. The results did show that those state who had anti-
bullying policies were more effective to help prevent bullying among teenagers (Hatzenbuehler,
Schwab-Reese, Ranapurwala, Hertz, & Ramirez, 2015). This is an interesting study that was
done, it did have some good facts and information in this publication and will look more indepth
into this study to see how much research information I can use from this.
Casebeer, C. M. (2012). School Bullying: Why Quick Fixes Do Not Prevent School Failure.
In this article Cindy Casebeer is addresses the issues of bullying in schools, and its complexity.
The short-term and long-term effects, are examined and studied, such as the victims self-esteem,
school work, etc. The author makes note that almost all cases in bullying take place within a
Since anti-bullying programs are still in its prime, there arent many out yet, research is still
ongoing. There has been one promising program called the Olweus Bullying prevention
program. It was started and tested in Norway and was found to be fairly successful. But there are
some who think it wasnt as successful as Olweus thinks it was, so its still up for debate. The

ongoing study of bullying in school is proving to be quite complex and researchers are still
interested in this program and will probably do some further research into this specific program
In this article the author discusses a nationwide program called STOP the violence. Its a
program designed to teach young youth teens who are in FACS education about leadership
development and career preparation. There the students are empowered and learn to recognize
and report any youth bullying or violence. Through this program they strongly believe that
change in bullying can be done and it starts through the kids themselves (Riordan, 2014). This
program is FCCLA member based, and Im curious if this is available in our community. Im
This article touches on many different subjects. It discusses what bullying is, causes for bullying, and
different types of bullying there is. Schools can prevent bullying by implementing firm school-wide
rules that are followed. There were also statistics provided, and that nearly 30% of adolescents have
experienced some sort of bullying (School Bullying, 2016). I was amazed that there have been over
7,000 harassment cases that were filed within schools in one school year alone. That is so high, and
yet it could be so much less. This article is reliant and relievent because it gives some great statistics

A need for anti-bullying programs in lps school district 4
This is a series on Netflix that is based on a novel. This girl Hannah made 13 tapes, each on a
different person, giving a reason why each of them contributed to her suicide. This character in the
movie started to be bullied by a picture that was sent via text message from a boy to other peers at
their school. From there it seem to get worse. The other main character is boy named clay he is the
last of the 13 to listen to the tapes, all are waiting on him. Clay seems to have a tough time listening
to the tapes and goes through some tough times himself. This movie does show a rape and suicide,
which is how to show ends (13 Reasons Why, 2017). This series is a very graphic show and
shouldnt be taken lightly. It is a show that does come with a lot of concerns, critics say that it
glamorizes suicide. But I believe that people are missing the point of this series, it was made to be
raw and in your face. It is not something to take lightly, bullying is real and affects our teens everydat
and this is a taboo subject still and not really talked about. This show breaks the ice and gets it out
there so people do talk about it. This show completed its mission I think because a lot of people are
talking about it. Plus it a great experience for parents to watch it with their teens and talk with them, I
did that with my daughter.
A step mom writes about her step-sons school bullying and how badly it escalated. Josh was starting
his 6th grade year at a new middle school and was so excited to start, but he soon found out that he
would become a poster child for bullying. Within 3 weeks of school Josh and was getting food
throuwn at his head, kick me signs taped to his back, hit, punched, and even ended up with a broken
leg from the bullying that had turned physical. The school wasnt really doing much, his parents had
contacted the school numerous times only to get put on the back burner. Finally after 2 long years of
terrible school bullying, Joshs parents decided enough was enough, they documented every
incident, filed a police report against the bully, and sent this information to the superintendent of
there school district. Only after this, was Josh able to change schools and escape the bullying
(Modifica, 2016). This article hit home for me because you dont realize how bad bullying can really
get. I got angry when I read this and how the school wasn;t really doing anything to stop it. Their
school clearly had no anti-bulllying program set up. It took police reports and contacting the school
district for something to finally be done. My thought is, why did they wait 2 years before doing this? If
were my child 6 continous months of that torture would have been plenty. I will be using this in my
paper, It is reliable because this is eye witness account of bullying of her step-son. This article gives
good insight as to how bad bullying can get and why it is important to have anti-bullying programs in
place at schools.
