Survey results:
When I asked my respondents what they
liked about my idea, they stated a variety of
answers. Someone said how they appreciate
that its bringing back that 60s style. Some
people believe it will be a vibrant and
exciting piece to read. As well as being
interesting to the history of the era. A
respondent staid this is a realistic tribute
Vogue would do.
From this, I understand that my respondents
appreciate my idea and what it is
representing. I can also see that they are
interested in my idea and from their
feedback; I have also been given some
pointers to take into consideration when
designing my idea.
When I asked about what they disliked about my idea some stated that there was nothing they
didnt like. However, one respondent asked why I would be honouring the 60s when its
supposed to be celebrating 125 years. This is because when given the brief I wanted
something that really catches the essence of fashion and classic days. In my opinion, the 60s
was a ground breaking era for fashion as women and men were taking bigger risks with their
fashion statements and the celebrities who came to fame
during this period are incredibly iconic even today. Because
of that, I decided the 60s would be the best era to discuss
in this special edition.
A respondent also raised awareness to the fact that my idea
is very limited to the 60s, however, I believe there is so
much I can create using this era as inspiration that my work
wont look limited as to me the fashion and the make up as
well as the style of the images is unlimited.
When asked what they would
change about my idea the
majority of the respondents
said nothing. Although one
said that I should take a
picture for each decade since
Vogues existed. I do believe
this could work however, I believe the 60s was a dramatic
change when it came to fashion as Ive said before, people
became more confident with their clothes, also this could lead to
Vogue doing something similar to their idea, if this one is
successful enough. For example, they may decide to do an issue
on the 70s or the 80s.
Finally, I asked my respondents what they would
develop about my idea. Some were not sure but
majority want me to ensure that I use a variety of
styles.
Once again, the respondent stating how I should
change my idea said I should try to recreate
different Vogue covers from the past starting from
the beginning. I have done some research
regarding their style in 1892 and it would be
difficult to recreate as well as not having as much
of an impact on its audience. Although the first
ever cover is a key element in Vogues history it is
not as memorable in comparison to the likes of the
covers that included iconic 60s celebrities.

Regarding the statics regarding target audience already associated to Vogue Magazine, I will
intend that my work reaches the interests of this target audience. Information from an online
source stated that the current audience regarding Vogue are 85% female and 15% male.
These statistics show that my target audience will be mostly women. Regarding the age of the
audience the majority of Vogue readers are between the ages of 16-34 these ages make up
68% of readers. The other 32% consist of 35 year olds and over. These statistics show that
the age range regarding Vogues target audience is very broad however, their audience is
fairly mature meaning I will stick to the sophisticated style and narrative Vogue currently
express through their magazine. In conclusion my target audience for this project is women
aged between 16-24.

In order to ensure my production follows the requirements and limits can be given to
magazine articles I will follow the requirements given by IPSO. IPSO (Independent Press
Standards Organisation) is an organisation that has given rules to magazine products.
Theyre aim is to allow people who are offended by work to be able to contact the IPSO and
receive advice and help regarding the issue they also allow people to contact them if they feel
harassed by a journalist or photographer. To ensure I do not offend or harass people viewing
my product or those involved in the production I will follow the guidelines given by IPSO.
For example, IPSO require me to receive permission from those I am photographing and
including in my magazine, if I do not meet these requirements and someone wishes to not be
published, and I do so anyway, they can contact IPSO directly from their helpline. It is also
considered harassment if I am contacting a model repeatedly and the do not wish to speak
with me, advice to handle this situation is also given on their website.
Another requirement I am researching into is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
This law requires me to ensure my work is not copyrighted, which would avoid a possible
lawsuit. As my idea is to recreate images, the original photographer may consider it being a
copy of their previous work, which would qualify as copyright. To avoid this, I will give
credit where needed and ensure that my work comes across as a tribute to honour those who
were successful and celebrated during the 1960 era.

Another product similar to mine is Cosmopolitan. This

magazine is well known for their sexy covers and their
provocative word play. Their target audience is once
again mostly women at a mature age such as 18-35. To
appeal to this Target audience Cosmopolitan word their
magazine at a mature standard and feature mature articles
to appeal to that age range.

The magazine also features famous icons in order to make

their product sell at a higher and faster rate. Previously
featuring icons such as Ariana Grande (singer), Khloe
Kardashian (TV Reality Star) and Shay Mitchel (Pretty
Little Liars). By using them as models they themselves
can advertise their latest feature in the magazine which will attract their fan base making the
magazine successful regarding that issue.

Globally, Cosmopolitan reaches to overt 100M people making it one of the most popular
magazines in the world. This product has been published across 79 countries and is translated
into more than 30 languages. Cosmopolitan has print and digital circulation of 405,308 and
their own website reaches more than 4.6m users each month. They also have two million
followers on social media platforms. Each day Cosmopolitan attracts 300,000 unique users
everyday due to their popular social platform Snapchat. These platform allows Cosmopolitan
to have its on in-app feature where they can publish a story made up of separate articles
consisting of fun games or informative articles regarding the latest news about celebrities or
the latest trends in fashion as well as some provocative articles to educate their audience.

Regarding competing magazines, one of my main competitors is

ELLE magazine. This product has many similar features and aspects
in comparison to Vogue Magazine. For example, from this cover
image you can tell ELLE is also using a sophisticated and classic
style to sell their magazine. Not to mention the models they use are
high-end celebrities such as Kylie Jenner who is one of the most
followed celebrities regarding social media, not to mention her make
up brand (Kylie Cosmetics) is incredibly popular and has been highly
successful over the past year. These features compete against Vogue
as there are various similarities. By having such a similar style the
readers will chose between who they have a higher interest in
regarding the model or featured celebrity as well the price of the
magazine may affect their decision. ELLE magazine chargers 4.30p
per magazine and Vogue chargers 4.60p. Although the price is not
that different in cost people may go with the cheaper option.
In conclusion, this is a competing product as it has such as similar style to Vogue and comes
at a cheaper price which will engage the audience more in comparison to Vogue.

Another competitor for Vogue magazine would be People Magazine. Despite having
different styles and layouts People is still a major competitor for Vogue as it has recently
become a more popular magazine and in fact, members of the public
who live in a nice area are charged more for People magazine as this
is where their higher sales are.

People magazine has the largest audience overall with more than 43
million adult readers. With 86% of their readers being female and
between the ages of 18-34. This is the same audience that Vogue is
aiming for. Which is the main reason People Magazine is such as high-
end competitor regarding their rise in popularity

In order to compete against these magazines I will ensure that my

product is well presented and interesting for the reader. I also believe
my idea has unique selling point as it features the style and fashion of
the 60s which is a time period famous for its gorgeous trends and the
iconic celebrities featured in the era such as Marilyn Munroe and
Audrey Hepburn.

Regarding the marketing of my product, research shows that there has not yet been a product
similar to mine. The most similar magazine I found was a product titled BEAT Magazine
which features 50s 60s and 70s music. My product is incredibly different as it is more
about fashion and celebrity rather than music and music artists from 3 different decade. My
product also focuses purely on fashion and the iconic models and actresses of the 60s. Also
by this being featured in Vogue which is one of the most famous fashion magazines
worldwide it will have a much larger audience with the interest of fashion to impact.

In conclusion, my product is unique as nothing like it has been done before and the modern
intakes that will be featured in my my magazine, regarding the recreating of the photographs,
will create a unique selling point for my article.

Privacy Issues:
To ensure there are no privacy issues I will ask everyone who is involved to confirm
they are happy to be published and credited throughout the product. I have gained
verbal and written confirmation through the emails shown previously to avoid this sort
of privacy issue. I also ensured that I have a physical copy of confirmation so if
someone was to raise a privacy issue I am prepared to back-up my product and its
planning.
Gender Discrimination:
The aim of my product is to not discriminate against any gender. However, due to the
magazine having a majority of women readers and also because of the popularity of
womens fashion during the 1960s I have decided to for all women models. This is to
show how iconic women in the 60s portrayed themselves and how they still have an
impact on peoples opinions of themselves and others today, this is proven by the
amount of young girls who idolise icons such as Marilyn Munroe and Audrey
Hepburn this is an observation Ive noticed through social media.
I do not intend to sexualise my models through the magazine. As the reputation of
Vogue is to remain classic and sophisticated I am following this style through my
images.
Legal Issues:
A legal issue I may encounter is copyright. This is because, as I am recreating images
from the 60s the original photographers, or who has the rights to the image, may
believe I am copyrighting their work. However, my images will be slightly differently
as there will be modernised aspects in the photographs, on top of this I will also give
credit to the images I am recreating in order to ensure the audience has a full
understanding of the purpose of this edition, which is to pay tribute and relive this
iconic fashion era.
Another legal issue is to ensure that my models and anyone featured in the
photographs has given me full permission to identify them and publish them publicly.
To avoid this legal issue I have a verbal and physical contract with my models and
other involved to ensure this issue cannot affect my product in a negative way.
Design Format:
My product will be in the form of a magazine as this is how it would be published.
Consumers will be able to find the magazine in-stores.
