What does Martin Luther King Day mean to you?
Martin Luther King Day is the day where we all should praise him for standing up for the civil
rights of blacks during the times of segregation. It is a day to be grateful for the changes he made
for us so we can be equal in the future. This day is to honor him for all the works he did for the
US to be considered equal, no matter the color, race or ethnicity.

Write down what in this cartoon stands out to you.
In this picture, the words stand out the most to me because it is unusual to have words of
promises on a pot top and the word reality on a bone. To get the meaning of this cartoon, it
shows that US citizens expect more than what they are given or asked for. Promises are made by
the government, but in reality, they are not handled expectedly. Another big thing that stands out
to me is the man who serves the white man who holds the silverware at the table. The big ears
and the suit portrays Barack Obama.

What are your favorite types of movies? What about them do you enjoy?
My favorite types of movies are biographical movies and drama movies. I favor these types of
movies because once I watch them I am interested to know the events or scenes that will happen
next. When watching biographical movies on big figures like Martin Luther King Jr or Nelson
Mandela, I become interested in watching the history that took place in their lives. Drama
movies are interesting to me because some can be funny and most drama movies are very
relatable to me. Also, drama movies could be made up on many genres because the type of
movie is very broad.

Describe a speaker you like. What do you like about him/her.
A speaker I like is Michelle Obama. She is an empowering individual and motivational towards
her audience. I like that when she speaks, she shows empathy and the emotion of care when
upholding her speeches. When she speaks, she means it whether its on working on obesity,
empowering women and stressing more education for all children.

What genres did you choose to write about? Why did you choose them?
The genres I chose consisted of an image and a poem. I chose an image because I am a visual
learner and Im better at analyzing pictures than working with articles or words. I chose a poem
because even though they are said to get to the point, I wanted to challenge myself to see if I
would understand what the meaning is behind the poem.

Describe at least one of the secondary sources you found. What research question do you
see them being able to answer?
One source I found was about mass incarceration and the black family. The whole journal article
basically explains how the black family is affected by the imprisonment of their loved ones. A
research question I see being answered for my Literature Review is How does mass
incarceration on African Americans affect society?

What went through your mind while you were breathing?
While I was inhaling and exhaling, I was thinking about passing my midterms. I was thinking
about how well I would do on the midterms even if Im unsure of myself. I was also thinking
about getting more rest because I did not get no sleep last night. I was too busy studying the day
of for the following exams. As the music was playing, it helped me think through that I will write
a great paper based on the assignment that is due for this class.

What perspectives have you gotten so far from researching your topic?
On my topic, the different perspectives Ive discovered was that some people were truly against
the fact of mass incarceration being a major problem in America. There are some people that
think it is less of a problem in America because prison was made for criminals to report there to
keep America safe. Especially amongst blacks, they have a perspective of why all their race is
being targeted to prison the most.

What grade would you give this public service announcement? Why?
I would give this PSA an A, because it appeals to the audience very well. With the idea of
including positive pictures of unity and videos of people working together, having a good a time
and most of all smiling makes the audience feel happy. The music behind the PSA goes very well
with the announcement that life is all about happiness and experience.

Describe a time you have been in an argument. What was the subject? Did you win or
lose? Why do you think you won/lost?
The last argument I had was with my best friend. We were talking about how a person did not
step in a step show but they actually did. We kept going back and forth saying yes he was and
no he wasnt, but in reality, my point was true. To get her to believe me, I had to show her a
video that exposed the boy stepping on the back of the stage. So, when you are in an argument,
you can win it by giving evidence and have supporting/factual details that will prove your point.

What policy do you want to advocate in your Opinion Piece?
I want to change the drug policy laws that link to criminal arrests because arrests usually happen
for the popular reason of drugs.
