Q1. Write any two physical quantities which neither have a unit nor dimensions. (1)

Q2. The distance travelled by a body in time t is given by, x = at + bt2. Find the
instantaneous acceleration of the body. (1)

Q3. Derive the dimensional formula of from the relation, y = A sin (t kx)
where y represents the displacement of a particle, A represents the amplitude and
t represents time. (1)

Q4. Acceleration time graph for an object moving with uniform negative acceleration is
shown below. Draw the corresponding velocity time and position time graph.

Q5. A motorboat covers a distance between the two spots on the river in 8hours while
moving downstream, and in 12 hours while moving upstream. Find the time required
by the boat to cover the same distance in still water. (2)

Q6. Derive the second equation of motion by using calculus method. (2)

Q7. The time period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is expressed as T = 2 (l/g)1/2 .


The measurements for length of the pendulum and time period are, l = (10+0.1) cm
and T = (0.2 + 0.02) s respectively. Determine the percentage error in the value of g.

Q8. Using dimensional analysis, check the correctness of the relation, V = Pr4/8L,
where V is the volume flowing per second of the liquid of viscosity through a
capillary tube of length L, radius r under a pressure difference of P between the
ends of the tube. (3)

Q9. A hundred metre sprinter increases her speed from rest uniformly at the rate of 1m/s2
for three quarters of the total run and covers the last quarter with a uniform speed.
How much time does she take to cover the first half and the second half of the sprint.

Q11. If the units of force, energy and velocity are 20N, 200J and 5m/s respectively, find the

Q12. The period of vibration of a tuning fork depends on the length l of the prong, density
and Youngs modulus of elasticity Y of its material. Deduce an expression for
the period of vibration on the basis of dimensions. (3)

Q13. Describe parallax method to measure the distance of a planet from earth. (3)

Q14. a) Calculate the focal length , f, of a spherical mirror, if object distance, u = (16 + 0.5)
cm and image distance, v = (4 + 0.5)cm. Given, (1/f = 1/v + 1/u).
b) List any two advantages of a SI system. (3+2)

Q15. a) Write the number of significant figures in the following:


i) 2.000 ii) 0.050
b) In an experiment, the refractive index of glass was observed to be 1.45, 1.56, 1.54
and 1.44. Calculate; (i) Mean absolute error (ii) relative error (iii) percentage
error.

Q7. Using the method of dimensions,check the correctness of the relation, h =2Tcos/r2g,
where h is the height of the liquid of surface tension T. is the density of the
liquid in a capillary tube of radius r, is the angle of contact formed by the liquid
and g is acceleration due to gravity. (3)

They start moving in the same direction simultaneously with a uniform velocity of
10m/s and 5m/s respectively. Determine the time and position at which A will

and x is distance and t is time. (3)

Q13. Derive, by the method of dimensional analysis, an expression for surface tension S
of a liquid rising in a capillary tube. Assume that the surface tension depends upon
mass of the liquid m pressure of the liquid p and radius of the capillary tube r.

Q15. a) Calculate the focal length, f, of a spherical mirror, if object distance, u = (16 + 0.5)
cm and image distance, v = (4 + 0.5)cm. Given, (1/f = 1/v + 1/u) .

b) List any two limitations of dimensional analysis. (3+2)
