Candidates are invited to provide written essays detailing their beliefs and positions.
The Citizen is in a precarious position in presenting candidate interviews and trying to remain unbiased.

We believe any viable publication should refrain from endorsing any candidate over the other until after the Primary. We do

Better, Not Bigger

A few years ago a Henry County resident, active in community affairs and sometimes called an activist, was preaching the
gospel of land use planning, preserving quality of life and educating people to the role government should play.

For every action there is a reaction, and the outcomes must be considered. The correct way is to study and research the
success and failure already experienced elsewhere before setting government policy.

In his book "Better Not Bigger," Eben Fodor cites study after study showing how growth raises taxes. In Loudon
County, Virginia, each new house on a quarter-acre lot adds $705 per year to a town budget (in increased garbage
collection, road maintenance, etc. minus increased property tax). On a five-acre lot a new house costs the
community $2232 per year. In Redmond, Washington, single-family houses pay 21 percent of property tax but
account for 29 percent of the city budget.

The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) publishes much information including policy and legislation,
insurance programs and training programs. That citizen-advocate provided copies of the ACCG Handbook to fellow
residents.

A strong advocate of the US military and the people who serve, the citizen-advocate is a member of the USO Council of
Georgia.

The United Services Organizations (USO) is the way Americans support their troops. A private, nonprofit
organization since its founding in 1941, the USO provides morale, welfare and recreation services to military
personnel and their families.

Lieutenant General David B. Poythress, retiring Adjutant General for Georgia National Guard, has named fifteen prominent
Georgians to the senior advisory board to the Adjutant General. The Henry citizen-advocate was named to the new
Civilian Aide to the Adjutant General Advisory Board.

Poythress Announces New Civilian Aides to TAG

Civilian aides left to right: (seated): Tina Coria, Mary Lou Austen Standing (l to r) Coy A. Short, Brig. Gen .(Ret.) Virlyn Slaton, Mitchell Bush, Lt. Gen.
Poythress, Nick Snider, Brig. Gen. (Ret.) William Wigley and Sunny Park

In addition, our fellow citizen is a member of the National Guard Youth Foundation Board of Directors, and sponsors a
scholarship awarded by the Fort Gordon Youth ChalleNGe Academy.

Our concerned citizen has also served as director of intergovernmental relations and alternate for Georgia Governor Zell
Miller on the Appalachian Regional Commission.
The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is a regional economic development agency that represents a
partnership of federal, state, and local government. Established by an act of Congress in 1965, ARC is composed of
the governors of the 13 Appalachian states and a federal co-chair, who is appointed by the president. Local
participation is provided through multi-county local development districts.

ARC funds projects that address the four goals identified in the Commission's strategic plan including job
opportunities, competition in the global economy, infrastructure improvements and building the Appalachian
Development Highway System.

Back the days while living in Texas, our citizen-advocate worked for then-governor Lloyd Benson. Remember Benson
telling Dan Qayle, "Sir, you are no John Kennedy?"

After moving to Georgia, work continued with Zell Miller as governor and US Senator. Reading Miller's books, "A National
Party No More: The Conscience of a Conservative Democrat" and "Corps Values: Everything You Need to Know I Learned
in the Marines" will provide insight into the core values of this Henry County citizen-patriot.

Here at home we recall work with the Henry County Land Use Map, The Flippen Alliance (FACE), and significant
contributions to support a local television show featuring local government officials, What's Hot in Henry.

In this case, the Citizen and Patriot provides living proof of the principles of service. Understanding that politics is defined
as competition for limited resources, and guided by informed principles, Henry County needs this brand of leadership.

This list of accomplishments, dedication, caring advocacy, and loyal friendship goes on and on. Having earned the
affectionate title of "My favorite Democrat" this American patriot and fellow Citizen has now announced candidacy for
Henry County Board of Commissioners, District 2.

Many of you recognize the accolades and know that Tina Coria will serve our county and communities with integrity,
transparency and honesty. Seldom do we find such an intelligent and competent candidate for local office.

Voting Rights Watchdogs Cite Ethics Issues,

Call on Handel to Withdraw

ATLANTA, GA - Leaders from two of Georgia's largest voting rights watchdog groups personally appealed today for former
Secretary of State (SOS) Karen Handel to withdraw her gubernatorial bid on grounds of unethical conduct during her
tenure as Secretary of State. The leaders, John Fortuin, co-founder of Defenders of Democracy, and Garland Favorito,
founder of VoterGA, presented evidence that Mrs. Handel:

• took $25,000 in campaign contributions from individuals directly connected to the voting machine vendor
lobbying firm, Massey and Bowers

• reversed her position and supported Georgia's unverifiable voting machines while accepting the contributions

• appointed a former lobbyist partner, Rob Simms, as her deputy, thus allowing the lobbying firm to have undue
influence and control over the SOS office

• conducted politically motivated investigations as cited in many of 63 impeachment articles filed at the General
Assembly against her Inspector General, Shawn LaGrua.

Watchdog leaders also challenged state and local news media to investigate ethics questions evenly for all candidates.
Mr. Fortuin elaborated: "These are some of the most serious ethics charges that have been raised against any public
official. They illustrate in part, how the Secretary of State's office has been an epicenter of political corruption for eight
years. Former secretaries have historically gotten a free pass from state and local media on ethics questions even when
unethical conduct shows them to be unfit for public office."

The leaders contend that impeachment articles and supporting documents cited in a Lowndes County State Election
Board (SEB) case clearly indicate how a voting machine technician was framed to cover-up violations committed by an
elections supervisor who was an acquaintance of Karen Handel. They also cited a December 2009 SEB petitioning case
where as chairwoman Handel referred a former county commissioner for a felony forgery investigation even when there
was no probable cause and no evidence that he ever forged any petition signature. The commissioner was petitioning for
another commissioner to run against a personal acquaintance of Karen Handel. Both victims in these cases have offered
to be available to the press.

Ryan S. Davis for

Henry Board of Education

The constituents in District 5 deserve a school board member who will look critically at the information, analyze, compare
and make decisions based on what you know and what the current situation on the ground demands. With a lifelong
passion for education and a desire to make a difference in this community I recognize the broad range of issues facing the
Henry County School System in addition to the challenge of having a new board chair and a new superintendent starting
after this election.
It's time to move forward with fresh ideas and I have an up to date knowledge of our local school system that I believe
places me in the best position to take over for our retiring representative.
I have lived most of my life in district 5, started my education at the Fairview Academy on East Atlanta Rd in the first year
of Pre-K in Georgia, played youth athletics in North Henry (baseball, basketball, football, and track), graduated with a 4.22
GPA and a College Preparatory with Distinction Diploma from Union Grove High School, and I am graduating early from
Georgia Southern University with a BBA in Finance.
The Davis Plan
If given the privilege to serve, I will make this my full time job and will pursue these five main objectives during my first
term as your School Board Representative:
1. I plan to use my knowledge in finance to help prioritize spending as well implement strategies to save the taxpayers
money without furloughing teachers. Additionally, I would like to implement a personal finance course that will enable our
students to learn about credit cards, taxes, mortgages and simple family budgeting that will help them become more
productive citizens.
2. I plan to champion an open campus setting at the Academy for Advanced Studies located at Henry County High School.
The current policy requires full time attendance to Henry County High School. District 5 students are being left out of the
opportunity to obtain additional and advanced technical and vocational courses offered at this Academy. I will work to
change this unfair policy.
3. Common sense disciplinary policy that uses discretion and understanding rather than a one size fits all "zero tolerance"
policy. Strong leadership requires us to be tough on bullies, gangs and drug dealers; it does not mean we must expel a
2nd grader for accidentally bringing his Cub Scout pocket knife to school.
4. Better cooperation with the State would enable our system to take more responsibility in our financial situation. I will
vote to eliminate the lawsuit with the state over charter schools and will work to improve these options for our
underserved and disadvantaged students.
5. I believe the Fine Arts, Physical Education and High School Athletics are not just good policy but a building block for
students to learn discipline, determination, and dedication. They are a key part of educating our children and I will fight to
maintain if not increase funding for band, chorus and athletic opportunities for male and female students. Many times
these are the tools that not only keep students in school but also help them get to the next level in education.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

A Global Responsibility
Dear Friends,

As many of you know, I have been working to establish my own company in the Atlanta and surrounding areas. Much of
my (our) work has involved having poor indigenous people manufacture products for us to market in the USA. The key
thrusts have involved Cambodia, Nicaragua and Viet Nam.

The profits we generate will help start and maintain orphanages in the above countries; and offer a quality of life that
heretofore has been unknown to the children. As we continue to move forward, I will use my best efforts to keep you
informed. And in a few weeks, we will have our website up and running to give you a better idea of what we are all
about.

In the meantime, please feel free to visit one of our orphanages at:

I continue to place everything in the hands of God; and I am sure He will bless us. Thank you for your prayers and
support. And yes, I will continue to maintain my regular full time job.

Lagrange Patriots

Many have asked about the primary election July 20th. Many have said they do not know all the candidates for one
reason or another and have asked for information. As Chairman of the education committee for the LaGrange Patriots
I am simply stating recommendations based on direct contact with these individuals, knowing them
personally, hearing them at debates or forums, interviewing them or their aids or reviewing their records.

The LaGrange Patriots mission statement is to affect elections by voting for the most Constitutional minded candidates,
those who are for limited government, fiscal responsibility, less taxes and more personal responsibility.

In many races, we have no choice. What you do with the information is your business. The sample ballot is attached
for your review.

Thanks, Ellen Gilmore

Chairman, Education Committee LaGrange Patriots

Subject: Emailing: 7-20-REP-FB

U.S. Senate: Johnny Isakson has no republican opposition, therefore I gave him my vote of confidence to aid other
republican senators in Congress to stop or at least neutralize the damage that has been and is being and can be done
by the democrats in the Senate. It remains to be seen what the republicans will do if they end up in the majority once
again. Remembering, the republicans have never conserved anything. The framers gave us divided government to
protect our liberties but both parties have given us socialism with officials who have ignored the Constitution. Perhaps,
the republicans will have learned something. :) We can only pray for them and keep a watchful eye on what they
do. Patriots all over the country are going to REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER that we are seeking to restore something of
what is left of our Republic.

Governor- Ray McBerry - Ray is the genuine Constitutional conservative among the republicans. We've known Ray
for many years. He did not have to conjure up his support for the 10th amendment or any other amendment in the Bill
of Rights. He is a true believer in the founding principles of our country and in State's Rights. His independence from
"special interest" will be helpful with his veto pen in the Governor's seat. I'm confident he will look out for our freedom
from bigger government, higher taxes and he will expect accountability from the agents and agencies of State
government as well as protect the people of Ga. from the overreach of the Federal government. Freedom and the
Constitution will have a spokesman. He has no ties to any special interests, only to the people of Georgia. As many of
you know he received 56.9% of the straw poll vote at the LaGrange Patriot forum April 29th. He has won every debate
through out the campaign where polls or votes have been taken. TV 33 is televising our Governor's forum event
presently and we have the forum on our website at LaGrange Patriots.org. for those who want to hear the candidates.

Lt. Governor- Casey Cagle- no confidence there for me for we can't beat something with nothing. He is unopposed on
the republican ballot.

Secretary of State- Doug MacGinnite, simply because Kemp was appointed by Perdue and was assistant under
Handel. Absolutely no vote for him. My experience with the office of the Secretary has been negative both by appearing
in a hearing under the former Secretary on a voting matter as well as by mail. I'm hoping for improvement in that
agency. Doug said he believes in smaller government and individual freedom. We'll see.

Attorney General- Preston Smith - Mr. Smith is a hero for going against the state house republicans on tax increases
recently. He was removed from his position on the judiciary because he would not vote for the hospital bed tax. He
has never voted to raise the taxes of Georgians. He understands the role of the attorney general in this election cycle
and at this time in the history of our country. He will be a strong supporter of our State independence from the reach of
the federal government. What a pleasure to to vote for him.

Commissioner of Agriculture- Gary Black- He is a farmer and that's about the only real qualification. He has lots of
experience. Farmers ought to know something about agriculture in Georgia.

Insurance Commissioner- Gerry Purcell - Gerry has been around in Troup County, making his views known to many
of us. He is the one person running for this office who is not a politician but someone who knows the insurance
business and is a genuine conservative, believing in State's Rights and overturning the huge health care tax bill. He too,
understands Constitutional government.

State School Superintendent- John Barge - I heard about him at the Republican women's club meeting. He
believes in local control, free enterprise and the constitutional right and obligation to educate children without
interference from the federal government. He could be a breath of fresh air for that office.

Commissioner of Labor- Melvin Everson- He is a terrific conservative with a heart to promote work in the private
sector, not government. He has made himself available in our area on numerous occasions and would be an asset to
any commission.

Public Service Commissioner- John Douglas- He is a conservative and was recommended by many who know him
and was my choice prior to asking others about him. I researched each candidate and confirmed my choice from the
comments of others.

The others, unopposed in the Republican primary- Lynn Westmoreland, Josh McKoon and Kip Smith all have no
opposition. So we don't have a choice. Lynn has a conservative voting record in the House of Representatives and Josh
is a favorite of ours for we have gotten to know him quite well. He's the real thing, smart and I believe he will
represent our district well in the State Senate. He is a go to person with terrific insight into the workings of state
government.

The Question on the ballot is self explanatory. It is simply a question (similar to a poll) to see if people desire such
an amendment to the Ga. Constitution.

The Special election- Redevelopment Powers Law- tells you nothing about Tax allocation districts. The Law
itself, would have been more informative for the voters had it been placed on the ballot. Instead the question is worded
so as not to mention "tax".

I see no benefit for Troup County residents in it's approval. Believe me; we have really researched this one. We have a
wealth of information as we have been determined to make an informed vote. As Chairman of the Education
Committee, I will not vote to give the elected officials of Troup County any more power. If anyone has
questions or wants more information about this vote, contact morgan1861@charter.net.

As most of you know, the races for our local commissioner chairman and one commission seat are both democrats.
Ricky Wolfe and Richard English. Mr. Wolfe is unopposed and Mr. English has a democrat opponent.

These are brief opinions!!!!! for what they are worth. Please do your own research and be an informed voter.
There is no substitute!!!

The Republican Women of Henry County will be having our July meeting on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 6:30PM at the
Henry County Administration Bldg. We have a great line-up of candidates and this will be our last chance to hear from
them before the July 20th primary. This is a great opportunity to meet the candidates in person and ask any questions
you may have.

Candidates scheduled to speak are:

Steve Davis - running for re-election in State House

Ester Fleming - running for State Senate - District 17 (John Douglas' district)

Herman Talmadge - District 2 Candidate for county commissioner

Brian Kemp - running for Secretary of State (is acting SOS now)

This is not for women only!! Bring your spouse, friends and neighbors.. let's have a great turnout for these candidates!

For Whom Are You Going To Vote?

When I vote, I usually vote for the person -- I pray will do the least amount of harm. That makes me sound like a
pessimist. However, I am not. I am always hopeful, that whoever wins, will do what is best for the common good, and
yes, I have been disappointed.

What I aspire to be, is an informed voter. When I step into the voting booth I don't want to be going, "Eeny, meeny,
miny, moe", before casting my vote.

Becoming informed is a challenging process. However, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) has
made the process a little easier.

To learn about the proposed education policies of the men and women running for governor and for state school
superintendent. Visit the PAGE web site http://www.pageinc.org/ to read their responses to a series of questions Page
posed to them.

Two key items also found on the website:

One, the key education votes cast by state senators and representatives over the past few years.

Two, PAGE's legislative position statement, "Before It Is Too Late: Rebuilding Public Education in Georgia".

The Professional Association of Georgia Educators founded in 1975, is the largest organization for professional educators
in the state, with more than 78,000 members.
