Technology is something that should be able to be used not just in the classrooms ofABC
Community School but in every school. Technology is such a big part of society today and it
should be used in classrooms. A quote by Marion Ginapolis states, We need technology in every
classroom and in every student and teachers hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time,
and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world. Taking away this right would
not be beneficial to the students in it. Using technology in the classroom has been a huge success
throughout the years with all of this new technology that is coming out.
A quote by Marion Ginapolis says, It is not about the technology; it is about sharing
knowledge and information, communicating efficiently, building learning communities and
creating a culture of professionalism in schools. These are the key responsibilities of all
educational leaders. As the quote states, it is not just about using technology. It is all the benefits
that come from using it. According to an online journal written by Marcela Cervenanska, The
pace of change brought by new technologies has had a significant effect on the way people live,
work, and play worldwide. New and emerging technologies challenge the traditional process of
teaching and learning, and the way education is managed. This quote shows exactly that
technology benefits everyone and everything in the world. That is why it is important to use
technology in a classroom. Since it is such a big part of our society today it would not make
sense to take it away.
Teaching with technology benefits both the teacher and the student. There are a lot of
students who are visual learners and using technology would make it so much easier for them to
understand what the teacher is trying to teach. Even if the teacher tries to draw something out it
does not mean it would come out perfect or that the students will understand. Using technology
would give the teachers and advantage sine they could provide more accurate drawings or
whatever they may be doing by using technology. Not only would teachers have an advantage on
using technology to provide more accurate or better looking things but the students would too.
There are times when a students has to do visual presentations but they might not be the neatest
people when it comes to drawing, writing, etc. so if they had the access to use technology than it
might look more put together and easier to read and understand. For example if a student had to
do a presentation using a trifold poster board than they could type everything out and just print it
instead of having to write it all down and it look messy. Yes, they can do that from home but not
all students have access to these types of technology from their home and it would just be easier
to get it done at school.
It would also help for students to learn how to do new things with technology. Students
usually just use technology to play games, go on social media, etc. If they use it in the classroom
they can learn to use technology in new ways that they might not have learned if they are using it
at their house. An example of a piece of technology that a student might not use at their house is
Excel. Excel is not something that people just use for fun but it is something that can be so
beneficial for someone to learn how to use. Excel gives everyone the opportunity to make things
easier for them. In excel there are ways to do equations, graphs, charts, and many more things. If
students were to learn how to use the program Excel than it would not just benefit them while in
school but also in the future. As for students in the lower grades, the teachers start to teach them
how to use the computer to type up papers, do slideshows and just how to use the computer or
technology in general. If they do not have to access to all of this technology than they might not
learn it at all or they will have to learn it on their own when they get to college and absolutely
have to use it. Technology is something that should not be removed from classrooms. There are
so many benefits to using it. Obviously the technology should only be used for educational
purposes. If the schools give teachers and students the right to use technology than it will help to
both of them in many different ways and the students will learn so much more by using it.
The District, State and National level standards for computer and technology help for

teachers to know what they need to cover in the aspect of computers and technology. All of these

standards are different but they also have some similarities. All of these standards The District

and State standards seem to be more specific and the National level standards are more broad.

The national level standard has seven standards and they are called the National Educational

Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S). The Nevada Computer and Technology Standards

are based on the National Education Technology Standards for Students. For the Nevada

standards it states the national standard and then it has the national indictor and by what grade

they must know that standard by. For the District standards it gets separated by grade. After that

it states the content standard and then how each student would meet either exceeds standard,

meets standard, approaches standard, or is below standard. The way that they are all similar is

that they each have their standards and that they each follow the standards of the higher level.

For example, the District standards are based on the State standards and the State standards are

based on the National Standards. Since they are each based on the higher level standards it

makes them all fairly the same.

The standard that will be covered will be the NETS-S number six which is the Creative

Communicator. This standard gives students the right to express their creativity by using

different styles, platforms, and other technology to achieve their goal. Another standard that will

be addressed will be the Nevada Computer and Technology Standard #2 Communication and

Collaboration. In this standard the students work together with their peers to create a variety of

digital media. The last standard that will be addressed will be the Nevada Computer and

Technology Standard #6 Technology Operations and Concepts. This standard demonstrates that
the students understand and know how to use the technology and that they know how to solve a

problem when they there is one with the system or the application.
Name of lesson: Using technology to write a fictional story

Grade Level Appropriateness: 3rd grade

Technology Content Standard Addressed:

ISTE Standard for Students #6 Creative Communicator: Students communicate

clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the

platforms, tools, styles, formats, and digital media appropriate to their goals.
Nevada Computer and Technology Standard #2 Communication and

Collaboration: Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others

employing a variety of digital environments and media.

Nevada Computer and Technology Standard #6 Technology Operations and

Concepts: Understand and use technology systems.

Other Content Standard Addressed: Nevada Writing Standard 3: Write narratives to

develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive

details, and clear event sequences

Objective: Students will learn how to use technology like PowerPoint to come up with a

creative story with their group.

Materials needed to facilitate the lesson:

Computer or laptop
PowerPoint
Paper with instructions
Paper
pencil

Suggested group size: 2-3 students

Procedures:

1. Handout paper with more information about what they have to do

2. Read out loud the instructions and ask if anyone has any questions (Make sure to

tell them that each story has to be at least 15 slides long)

3. Have students get into groups of two or three students
4. Have each group start writing their story on a piece of paper as their rough draft
5. Have each student come to you to revise their story and approve it
6. Go over PowerPoint so that each student understands how to use it
7. Assign a computer to each group when they are done with their story and it has

been approved
8. Let the students start doing their projects
9. Tell them that when they are done to let you know so you can save it to a flash

drive so it can be graded later

Assessment: The groups will be graded based on their grammar, sentence structure,

creativity, and their use of their technology.
