"What a child doesn't receive he can seldom later give

P.D. James, Time to Be in Earnest

It is time to set aside the clinical files and take a moment to share and celebrate the vital services
Lutheran Community Services Northwest is providing in our community. You deserve to be part of the
solution to the challenges that children and families face in our community. We are fortunate to be
affiliated with an organization that is investing in the future of our community and to be part of a
community that will support those efforts. Below are some highlights from 2010-2011

On any given week, Lutheran Community Services Northwest is in the home of 8 families with
the purpose of stabilizing those families at risk for loosing custody of their children to the state.
We work with local families to provide the skills, supports and stability needed to ensure the
safety of their children, so that children can safely remain with their families in a nurturing
environment.
We will expand our array of parenting classes to offer:
o 15 series of 8-week parenting classes around the community including elementary
schools, churches, the County Jail, Head Start, Juliettes House and Henderson House.
o 3 series of 8 classes for parents of children who have experienced trauma, to provide
parents the tools to be a healing presence for children that have been abused or witnessed
violence
o A 12-week Mothers and Babies course to support at-risk mothers in developing a
nurturing attachment to their babies.

These classes have given me invaluable lessons on how to help my children grow and develop

We have successfully raised over $20,000 to launch a self-sustaining Immigration Counseling

and Advocacy Program (ICAP) in Yamhill County. This program will provide low-cost
immigration counseling in our community. This service will allow families in our community to
navigate legal pathways to a current immigration status. Ultimately, this service will allow local
families to remain together and participate fully in our community.

A Successful Event
On May 6th 2011, Lutheran Community Services held a Salsa themed event designed to raise
money to launch ICAP. This event was successful both in showing people a great time and in
raising the money needed to launch this vital service in our community.
