uring the 80s and 90s some of the most respected and
influential artists were topping the charts creating new
songs and shaping the music genre that we know today.
Take for example the phenomenal band which is Queen, argu-
ably one of the most influential bands to ever exist especially
during their prime in the 80s; their music is still played on the
radio to this day and their songs we are the champions and
we will rock you are forever immortalised through their use
in sporting events across the globe. By the end of 1980s they
had sold over 45,000,000 albums worldwide and their hit song
Another One Bites the Dust became the bands biggest selling
American single. Their music is considered amongst the best
ever made, their most popular song, Bohemian Rhapsody is
known by some to be one of the best songs ever, their music
even featured in films such as Waynes World and Flash Gordon,
where they wrote the entirety of the score for the film. The band
Red Hot Chilli Peppers said that Queen was a huge influence
to the band and is one of the sole reason we formed.
Oasis (Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy
Bell) is another example of a famous and influential band, they
55 formed in 1993 with independent record label Creation Records
and released their record breaking album a year later. The
album was the fastest selling debut album of all time in the UK
when it was released and went platinum seven times. Oasis have
several well-known songs such as Dont Look Back in Anger,
Stop Crying Your Heart Out but their most famous song by
far was Wonderwall, on its release it was in the top 10 charts
for weeks reaching number 5 in the US and number 2 in the UK
singles chart. It was also voted number one on Australian alter-
native music radio station 20 years of the hottest 100. Oasis
have had eight number-one singles in the UK as well as eight
number-one albums and have won fifteen NME awards, nine Q
awards, four MTV Europe music awards and six brits awards.
They have sold over 70 million records worldwide and its safe
to say they have had a huge impact on future bands and artists.
The band The Killers said Oasis had a large impact on our life
and were a huge inspiration.
Michael Jackson is considered the best pop singer of all time,
even earning him the title The king of pop which puts him
alongside the only other king of a genre Elvis Presley aka The
king of rock and roll. Its hard to find anyone who hasnt heard
of Michael Jackson or any of his songs; the impact he made
before his death was enormous even after he still hit platinum,
top charts and so on. Michael was originally part of The
Jackson 5 alongside his four brothers in the 60s but began
his solo career in 1971, his music was unmatched even before
his solo career, making great hits such as Smooth Criminal,
Thriller, Beat It and arguably his most famous and best
song, Billie Jean. Music wasnt the only thing Michael Jackson
had an impact on, he also contributed to the likes of fashion
and dance. His most famous moves were the moonwalk or the
robot which are now a permanent staple in future the moves of
generations. He became the first artist in history to have a top
ten single in the Billboard hot 100 in five different decades.
He has also had multiple Guinness world records, 13 Grammy
awards, the Grammy legend award, 26 American Music Awards
and so many more that would take too long to name. He also
got the title Artist of the century and has sold an estimated
350 million records worldwide. With so many awards, the title
King of pop and so many other achievements it shows why
he is considered one of the best artists to ever exist and how
he has shaped the pop genre we know today. Legendary pop
singer Beyonc has said Michael was arguably one of the most
influential singers to ever exist and was a huge inspiration for
me growing up, I owe my career to him.
