1. What is the evidence supporting the role of the pharmacist in the compounding sterile
preparations?
Sterile preparations like all other preparations must have exact and accurate doses. It is the
job of a pharmacist to guarantee a patient receiving the sterile preparation that he/she is
receiving the correct medication and most importantly the correct dose.

2. To what degree should pharmacists take responsibility for compounding sterile preparations?
A pharmacist should take full responsibility for compounding sterile preparations because
he/she is an expert in this field and has very wide knowledge about this.

3. What about medical emergencies in which compounded sterile preparations are needed?

It will be compounded as soon as possible and the same steps/protocol will be followed when
there will be an emergency case of compounding sterile preparations.

4. Describe how to justify the cost of secondary engineering controls to an administrator.


In order for an administration to offer quality services, secondary engineering controls must
be maintained. A level of safety among the staff and the building itself must be maintained. In
order to achieve such levels, cost must be over ruled by the quality of service.

5. How would you explain the need to remove all jewelry and cosmetics before donning sterile
garb?

It is for safety of all individual. Safety for the pharmacist and his/her patient because the
jewelry/cosmetics the pharmacist is wearing may be contaminated. It may also be the cause of
an accident if the pharmacist did not remove all of his/her jewelry.
