MULTIPLEXER
OBJECTIVE: Upon successful completion of this experiment, the student will be able:
To implement and verify Multiplexer operations using,
74LS153 IC
Module KL-33006
EQUIPMENT:
Training kit IDL-800
KL-31001 Digital Logic Lab
Module KL-33006
COMPONENTS:
74LS153 IC (1-of-4 Multiplexer)
Connecting Wires, Hard Wires
6.1 MULTIPLEXER:
A Multiplexer (MUX) is a device that allows digital information from several sources to route on
to single line common to destination. The basic multiplexer has several data inputs and a single
output line. It has also a data select input, which allows digital information on the one input to be
switched to be output line. Multiplexers are also called data selectors. The applications of
multiplexer are many, and range from parallel to serial converters, register shifting, data
transmission etc. Logic symbol and diagram for 2-input multiplexer is shown in fig 6.1 (a & b):

PROCEDURE:
Using IC:
Take Training Kit IDL-800 and apply power supply to it.
Carry out the pin configuration of 74LS153 IC.
Connect inputs D0 & D1 to two switches and Data-select input S to another switch.
Connect the output Y to the LED.
Carry out different combinations with the switches and fill the observation table.
Secondly connect the data inputs C0 to C3 and select inputs A, B to switches.
Connect enable input EN to ground.
.Connect the output OUT to LED.
Change selection code by means of switches and test the operation of device completely.
2. Connect inputs A, B to Data Switches SW0 and SW1, and selector C to SW2. Connect output
F3 to Logic Indicator L0.
3. Follow the input sequences in table 2-34 and record states of F3.

b) Constructing a 8 to 1 Multiplexer Circuit with TTL IC:
1. U6 (74151) on block f of module KL-33006 will be used in section of the experiment.
3. Connect inputs D0-D7 to DIP Switch 1.0-1.7; inputs C, B, A to DATA Switches SW2, SW1,
SW0. Follow the input sequence in table 2-35; adjust D0-D7 and record output states.
REVIEW QUESTIONS:
Ans: They select which data unput will be routed on output at specified time sequence.
