Punk rock music has involved different generations influencing into the expressing of

feelings and words. Commonly known for chaotic music, punk rock creates a deeper meaning

into the young adolescents creating the wave. Expressing themselves of various topics for

example, sexual, racial, human, and liberal rights. Punk rock manifests into young teenagers

representing who they are. The Sex Pistols was one of the first punk rock bands to explode in the

mainstream with harsh leading vocals, distorted guitars and fast drum beats. The sex pistols

influenced many of the British punk rock bands around the world communicating their message

throughout their lyrics containing strong anarchist, fascism, music industry and violence. The

band was formed in London UK in 1975, formed by members, vocalist Johnny Rotten , lead

guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock but, Matlock was replaced

by Sid Vicious in the early 1977, the Pistols, at some extend re-imaged the British culture as a

liberal view. This band influenced many people converting into a punk movement. This

consequence reviews the following questions.

1. What is the punk rock movement? (Question of definition)

2. Who was affected by the movement? (Question of fact)

3. What were the outputs in these social movements? (Questions of consequence)

4. Why does the anarchy, in the punk rock movement inflict chaos? (Question of interpretation)

These questions will create the purpose of the literature review involving the punk rock

The punk movement emerged from the music genre "punk rock" which was elaborated

from the 1960`s garage bands known as "proto-punk." Underground bands constructed a new

music genre followed by the psychedelia era in the 1960`s that pushed a harsher sound to the

new generation. Commonly known for chaotic purposes youngsters invented innovative looks

for example, ripped T-shirts, leather jackets, Mohawk hairstyles and spiked jewelry.

Representing the rebellion of the adolescents, the movement widespread popularity. Popular

underground Bands like the sex pistols, the clash and the Ramones started to direct into the

mainstream scene. The Ramones is an American Punk rock Band from New York city. Formed

by, lead singer Joey Ramone, bass guitarist Dee Dee Ramone, lead guitarist Johnny Ramone and

drummer Tommy Ramone. This band has influenced majorly on punk rock scene movement in

United States. As quoted by Joseph M. Turrini "Known for their 1979 movie musical, Rock n

Roll High School lead singer, Joey Ramone, blurted loudly in the movies rambunctious title

track: I dont care about history . . . cause thats not where I wanna be. The movie is the

ultimate musical tribute to teenage rebellion, as opposed to being a defining document on the

punk generation." This demonstrates how the Ramones has influenced in the punk rock

generation.

The system affected by the punk rock movement was the followers and bands involved in this

time. Different movements where discussed in this era where people fought for their rights.

Political topics where discussed in protesting notable trends in punk politics including

anarchism, socialism, individualism, anti-militarism, anti-capitalism, anti-racism, and anti-

sexism . Being involved in all this sub-movements the punk expanded in many different

territories when it came to fighting for rights. The sex pistols released a single named "God Save

the Queen" which expressed anarchistic views and slogan "no future." Lyrically communicating

about the queen overpowering the people. Manager Malcom McLaren of the sex pistols

commented in a radio program on Andy Warhols multiple of the Queen from 1985. Of Warhols

painting he says,

According to Ruth Adams:

You cant take it seriously; there is no depth of character. Its flat; its just an icon. Its

vacuous, its empty, its just like a Coca-Cola bottle. If thats what weve got to consider

the Queen as, then in some respects Id be happy to say that perhaps we wont have any

more queens as we tried to impose, with a thought about the Queen back in the days

when I managed the Sex Pistols. We took the Queens portrait, by Cecil Beaton, we

printed it just like a silk screen image no different from Andy Warhol here, we filled in

some colors, but we put a safety pin through her nose, and we wrote on the side God

Save the Queen, she aint no human being. We basically didnt molly-coddle her, we

didnt put her up on a pedestal, we were basically saying this icon is a joke. Because

right there in the 70s, we were already demonstrating our resistance against this vacuous,

gilded, Hollywood, American way of dominating culture with stories that were genuinely

untrue. We were now trying to authenticate our beliefs, move away from American

culture, resist and fight it and come up with a culture of our own. That was punk rock,

and we wrote the song and equally painted a portrait, our version of the Queen, and got it

on the front page of the Daily Mirror, on Queens Silver Jubilee day!

This quote portrays on how punk rock affected the political view of the different powers.

Influencing this view people started to involve themselves more in this movement. They

overthrow the heritage power created in the U.K and start to rebel against it.

The outputs of this social movement were a creation of new music genre, new stylistic clothes

and fighting for freedom rights. The new music genre was developed by simple natural chords

and lo-fi recordings which directed into a do-it-yourself industry. Marking for independent music

labels music marketing became more liberal for example, band patches and bracelets.

The chaos created in the punk rock movement is created by violently reacting to different

opinions. Negative aspects of these movements where the riots and violence was caused by the

protestors. In 2006, San Bernardino punk riot started between neo-Nazis and antiracist when a

neo-Nazi argued about white supremacy leading to anger the antiracist punks. Breaking over the

fence the rioting started implementing the police. Punks destroyed local police cars, and stores

leading to injured people and 500,000 dollars in damages. This incident occurred by the non-

tolerance of the punk fans.

Punk rock influences expanded in the 1970`s world widely that in the Russian

community Siberian punk was emerging from the roots of political concepts about the soviet

union. Fighting against communist ideology Siberian punk expanded in the underground scene.

Constantly being oppressed by the upper forces for "crossing ideological lines" as quoted by

Vladimir Kozlov "Siberian Punk, it seems, had its time and place an era when young people far

from the Imperial Center were looking for ways to express their rebellion against the dying

communist system. " which opened the doors for many adolescents in the ending of the soviet

union era.

A interview conducted by the author of this literature review to the bassist "Gilberto

Terrazas" from the band "Fallex" about the punk rock scene in today`s era. Being influenced by

the classical punk rock era and the present bands such as "The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and

The Libertines" Gilberto Terrazas answered " I`ve overcome different barriers by listening to

music. The emotions given at the time of playing, is pure freedom. If I keep playing it will be to

communicate a message of freedom like in the 70`s."

Concluding, the punk rock movement has evolved and influenced many people in its

passage. With different creations from different tastes. The punk rock spoke for the wave and

expanded the barriers of liberty. Different point of views are spoken and deciding if the

movement changed in humans. The punk rock bands will influence different band from today

and in the future.
