Interpreter Business Polices


*Please note that if I am hired I will follow the
schools polices. The following are my
preferences in general, but I am open to
negotiation.*

Minimum Time Requirements:


o When you are scheduling me as an
interpreter, there is a certain amount of
time you need to get in contact with me.
o I need to be contacted at least a month
before the school year begins.
Unless there is a new student that
moves to town. Then I would need to
be contacted as soon as possible.
o If there are parent teacher conferences
that need to be interpreted I will be
willing to take a few so long as I am
contacted at least a week before the day
of the conference.
o I am willing to do band and choir
concerts, so long as I am contacted at
least three weeks before the day of the
performance.
o If there is a school play or musical I am
willing to do those so long as I am
contacted at least a month in advance.
o Should the student be involved with band
or sports, I would be willing to interpret
to practices, games, performances, or
competitions as needed as long as I get a
weeks notice.
Minimum Information Needed:
o When I am interpreting in the education
setting, I will require certain bits of
information so that I can be prepare
appropriately.
o I will want to know what grade I would be
interpreting for.
o I will want to the name of the teacher
and the students class schedule.
o If you would like me to interpret for a
musical or choir (or band) concert I will
need the songs at least one months
before the performance date.
o If you would like me to interpret for a
nonmusical play, I would need the script
at least one month before the
performance date.
o If possible I would like either a copy of
the students IEP or be allowed to look at
it.
Wage:
o I charge $20 an hour.
o I will charge for an hour of prep time for
extracurricular activities (Band, Choir, or
concerts) that I interpret.
Billing:
o My pay check can be sent to me via
direct deposit.
o I would like my pay checks to split
between 12 months.
Travel:
o Should the student be involved with band
or sports, I would be willing to interpret
to practices, games, performances, or
competitions as needed.
o I will most likely drive myself, without
any travel fees.
Cancellations:
o If school gets canceled for the day, I will
not come in to work unless told
differently.
o There will be no fee for cancellation.
Weather Cancellations:
o I will follow whatever the school policies
require regarding weather cancellations,
late start, or early releases.
o If there is a late start, I will come
whenever the teachers have to come in.
If I cannot make it at that time I will take
it out of my personal time.
No Shows:
o Should the consumer not show up to
school that day, I will follow the schools
policies.
o I will contact my boss to see if there is
anything I can do, such as fill in for
another interpreter.
Duties:
o My first and full must duty is interpreting
for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing student.
o I am willing to help the teacher if I am
having some hands down time and I can
stay in the classroom.
o I will not discipline the students (Deaf or
Hearing) unless given the say from the
teacher I am with.
o I am willing to tutor the student as need
when I am not interpreting.
