Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide students with an


understanding of the basic terminology, practices and current issues in
employee benefits. This field is rapidly growing in importance for both
employers and employees, as well as undergoing significant changes as the
result of new legislation. Students completing this course should be able to
utilize their own future employee benefit plans more wisely and be in a
position to help employers or insurers adapt such plans to meet changing
conditions.

Final Exam Thursday, December 19, 2002 1:30-4:30 pm

Students will write three short papers on current issues in employee


benefits and present one of the topics to the class. The papers will be due
on October 7, November 8 and December 2. Lists of possible topics for each
paper will be distributed approximately one month prior to the due date. In
addition to the papers, there will be five problem sets assigned as follows:

The exams will be open book, open note. Calculators can be used, but
not shared. The final exam is based on all the material covered during the
semester.
