1. INTRODUCTION
This document describes the general set-up procedure for the W2K-BIM. Only the
installation of the BIM software is described. Installation of the hardware, drivers and
Operating System can be found in the Service Installation Manual of the COMPAQ Code
PC. In this Service Installation Manual is described how to prepare your PC for the BIM
installation. The version for the newest COMPAQ Code PC can be found on the NSO net.
NSO Net Product Mgt Life Cycle IT Board PLC Documents Service
Installation guide.
Note that only the installation guide for the newest model is present, but the general
installation of the Operating System and additional hardware is the same for all PC
models.
The set-up procedure includes the following items, all installed according the Service
Installation Manual, except for the BIM software itself, which is described in this document:
2. Install the Operating System (OS). In this case, we use Windows 2000 Professional
with FAT 32 filing system (do not use NTFS filing system!).
1
2. ASSEMBLE THE HARDWARE
2.1 PC platform
The PC that will be used has to meet the following minimum requirements:
The above list describes the BIM PC as it is delivered by COMPAQ. According to the BIM-
functionality, more hardware can be added to the BIM PC.
The following extra hardware is necessary for the BIM and must be added to the initial BIM
PC:
The above cards, Dongle excluded, can simply be inserted in an empty PCI slot on the
main-board. See the Service Installation Guide for more installation details. Do not try to
install any drivers at this point. All necessary drivers will be installed after the OS
installation is completed.
2
2.2.1 Primary Ethernet Adapter card
This card is used to connect the BIM with the CIE and CSM observer. For newer PC
models (Deskpro EN SDT 6/733 and newer) an Ethernet Adapter is available on the
motherboard.
Multi-port cards are used to increase the number of V.24 ports on the PC. The minimal
required port extension is an 8 port card, which is default installed. It brings the total
number of ports to 10. If more than 10 ports are required, a second 8 port card can be
installed.
Keep in mind that the dongle is only needed for SSW 805 systems. The same serial
dongle is used as in the CPS (Z8K) and CPU-ME platform. The dongle is an external
device. The dongle by default will be connected to COM 1, which is the maintenance port.
The dongle contains two V.24 ports (male and female). It is self-powered via the RS232
signals. The maximum speed supported by the dongle is 9600 BPS.
Optionally, extra hardware can be added to the BIM PC. According to the customers
demands one or more of the following hardware devices can be added to the BIM:
The Ethernet Adapter, the 8 port-card(s) and internal modem card can simply be inserted
in an empty PCI/ISA slot on the main-board. Do not try to install any drivers at this point.
All necessary drivers will be installed after the OS installation is completed.
This card is used to connect the BIM with the customers LAN. This makes it possible to
interface with the CSTA applications; i.e. applications that are running on computers
connected to the customers LAN.
3
2.3.2 Internal modem
An internal modem card is also installed by default. This modem is necessary to allow the
BIM to connect to a remote Fault Manager during power failure and for Remote
Maintenance. External modems need their own power supply and are therefore down
during power failure when not connected to a dedicated UPS. Internal modems are
powered via the main-board and will not be down during power failure, assuming that the
BIM is powered from the UPS.
Due to the cost of an tape device, this is an option of BIM 3.x. This option consists of an
internal TRavan tape device including driver software.
Modems are used for remote connections to the BIM and thus optional equipment.
However, one internal modem is installed by default. The BIM only supports Hayes
compatible modems. P-LAM's can also be used with Hayes protocol.
The Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS) is an external device that is connected to a COM
port (COM 2) of the BIM. The BIM PC, the BIM-monitor and the external modem (if
connected) retrieve their power from the UPS. Special power supply cables are used.
2.3.7 Terminals
4
2.3.8 Printer
A printer can be connected to a serial port for use as logical device and controlled by the
CPU for e.g. toll ticketing or printing of CPU files with the "CPYFIL" command. The same
printer as used for the SSM-systems can be delivered with the BIM.

3. INSTALL THE BIM PACKAGE
This section describes an initial install and a re-install of the BIM 3.x package. Precondition
for both types of installations is that Windows 2000 Professional together with all required
extra hardware is already installed, according the Service Installation Guide.
Before installing the BIM Software take care that the network card(s) are configured with
dummy IP addresses, for example 1.1.1.1, 2.2.2.2 (IP) and 255.255.0.0 (netmask). When
this is not done, the IP addresses that have to be specified in the BIM Software installation
are not taken over by Windows. This is because after installing Windows, default DHCP is
enabled.
Extra precondition in case of a reinstallation is that all BIM processes are stopped.
The program that is used to (re-) install the BIM package is named Setup. The text that is
displayed by Setup will be written as italic in this section. Also all dialog windows are
shown. Note that the values in the shown dialog windows are only examples.
Insert the BIM 3.x CD into the CD-ROM drive and execute Setup.exe in the root
directory of the BIM 3.x package.
Setup is now started and responds with the welcome dialog:
The welcome dialog gives some general information about the set-up process.
Specifically, it tells the user to stop all running programs, and gives a copyright
warning.
Click Next, to continue the installation.
Set-up responds with the next dialog window in which the setting for the primary
Network Interface Card (NIC) can be set by the user. The primary NIC is used for the
connection between the BIM and the ISPBX.
6
Select from the combobox list the NIC that has to be used as primary NIC.
If more than one NIC is installed on the system, the checkbox 'Enable IP routing' is
enabled. If there's only one NIC installed, it will not be possible to check this box. If IP
routing is not enabled or there is only one NIC installed, the next step is skipped. If the
second NIC has to be used for routing (CSTA) purposes the checkbox has to be
checked and than the next step will be collecting information about a second NIC.
Click Next. If a second NIC is installed, next dialog window is displayed. Otherwise the
next window is skipped.
7
Select from the combobox list the NIC that has to be used as router NIC. In the list of
available NIC's, the one chosen as primary NIC, will not be shown.
Click Next.
Now the primary Network Interface Card TCP settings are gathered and displayed in
following window:
In this dialog window the already known TCP setting for the primary NIC are displayed.
Change the values if these are not correct; otherwise leave the values unchanged.
Click Next.
When IP was enabled earlier the TCP settings for the router NIC are gathered and
displayed in next dialog window. If there is no second NIC available or IP was disabled
next window will be skipped.
8
As this NIC is connected to a regular network, extra information about Dynamic Name
servers is needed, together with a computer name to identify the computer on the
network.
Click Add to add a name server. To remove a name server click Remove.
In this dialog window the already known TCP setting for the router (secondary) NIC are
displayed. Change the values if these are not correct; otherwise leave the values
unchanged.
Click Next.
The start copy dialog window is displayed. In this window, all entered settings are
summarised. Check carefully if the entered settings are correct.
9
If certain settings are not correct click Back until the dialog window for changing these
settings is displayed again and change the settings.
If the settings are correct click Next.
In case of a reinstall of the BIM, Setup responds with the message:
Click Yes.
In case of an initial install this message is skipped.
Now the Setup starts to install the BIM software.
After the installation has finished Setup will show next dialog window:
Click Finish. The system is rebooted. After the reboot, the BIM is ready for usage.
Select Yes, I want to restart my computer and press the FINISH button.
The computer is now restarted and the installation has been finished.
