Proposal

Introduction:

In this assignment, I am going to be produce a proposal that describes,

develops and establishes what concepts, formats, dimensions, layers,
content, formats and images.

For the assignment, I am going to be, developing a gothic/metal based

band with the title The Pixels this is because the brief has already given
me the name. To start planning the logo, posters and CD covers I am
going to be looking at bands in the genre I have chosen and look at what
their assets look like.
The images below show CD covers, posters and logos from a couple of
different bands in gothic metal.
All of
the

images above
show some of the posters and CD covers from the bands Marylin Manson
and Rammstein. These show that the posters and CDs often have at least
one/all of the band members on the posters and CDs. As I am animating
mine I will incorporate 8/16 bit characters, this is to give the Pixels theme.
As a lot of these use black and red colour schemes I am going to also
incorporate this, the only thing that may not be in this scheme are the
characters, this is so that they will stand out and additional colours on the
poster will add details. An example of this is having the characters wear
pixelated Doc Martens and having a pixel of yellow just above to represent
the tag (this easily adds lots of detail and colour to the image with very

little effort.)

Storyboards

The storyboards I have created for this assignment below, they show the
logo, the CD cover and the poster that I have designed for the band.
Poster!
The image to the right shows the scanned in story board for the poster
that I created. I got the idea for the face in the middle an
original Mario game as i was thinking of
pixelated designs and gothic based
designs and I remembered the old
gravestones on Mario, the image to the
left shows the old gravestones from Mario.
The image to the left is one of the more
renovated ones but this was the only one I
could find, in the older versions the gravestone smiles.
The image to the left is not the expression I was looking for. However,
after searching Mario gravestones all I could fine were images of actual
graves.
The pixelated characters under the face was my way of incorporating the
band into the poster as well as having the bottom 1/4th of the poster free
to add details on (the brief specifies that I need to include certain details
on the poster.)
For the face I am going to create a red/orange face from top to bottom,
this is by using and manipulating a gradient from PhotoShop. For the
details, I am going to make up a few different arenas around the UK and a
few different dates from 2018 with a couple weeks in-between.
Lots of ideas came from the posters and CD covers that I
posted right at the top of this document in the introduction
as I have looked into other bands from the genre and looked
at what there posters and CDs look like.

CD cover!
The CD cover is very simplistic and it is a smaller/more cramped version of
the poster. The main differences are that instead of hovering above the
characters the face is in the background of the characters. However as the
eyes and some of the mouth are still visible it still looks quite good, this
also has all of the important information on the back (this includes a bar
code, 8 song names, small print, the bands logos and other important
logos.
The assets from this CD are going to be quite easy to get as I will have
already created them on the poster, the only assets in will need to make
specifically for this are the spine and the back, this will include the logo on
the spine and the text that I mentioned above.
Logo!
The logo is a very important part of the assignment as it is
going to be plastered all over the work. The image to the right shows the
scanned in logo that I have drawn out; this shows the same pixelated face
that appears on the poster and on the CD cover. I have decided to do this
from the start as by plastering the logo on the poster and the CD cover I
have saved time creating additional content and space by not using
useless content and instead using the logos as where ever I can.

Client meeting notes:

At the start of this assignment, I met with the client and

they told me exactly what they wanted, the notes from
this meeting are to the right. This shows that the client
just wants a CD cover, a poster and a logo creating, the
genre was not specified, the song titles were not
specified and there are a lot of space to create anything
I want.
This document is a start to the client meeting notes as
above at the start I referenced a couple of different
bands in the genre I am choosing, then I looked into
their work and I used some of the key points that stood
out to me without actually coping their work. An
example of this is when I wrote about the band
members being on the cd covers and posters and that I
was going to do this too, this is not coping work but
adapting my own ideas to suit what is already out in the
genre. I also referenced the colour schemes on the CD
covers and posters; this is because I wanted to use a
similar colour scheme. The notes show that I was not
trying to copy the work however as I did say that the
colour scheme is not going to be followed exactly as I am going to
incorporate other colours in the characters to add more detail.

Establish concepts:

I started out this proposal establishing concept

art; this is evidenced by the introduction
paragraph shown to the right.
The image to the right shows the images I pasted
in to show colour schemes and other similarities
between the cd covers; and posters that already
existed within the genre that I have selected this
is gothic metal.
The sections ladled Storyboards, Poster, and
CD and Logo are all showing the scanned in
drawn out copies of these assets. In the text to
the
left
of
the

images, I go into
detail about the individual assets used in the sections. An example of this
is in the poster section I go on to reference my thought process to having
the face in the middle (I thought of gothic assets that were also 8/16-bit
and remembered the gravestones enemies from Mario).
The storyboards that I explained in detail are below!

Select format, length and nature of content:

The format I have selected for these images is PhotoShop, this is where I
will create/edit the images, from there I am going to export them as .png
or .jpeg or .jpg files, this is because they are widely used and accepted on
all softwares, this is not like .psd files (files that PhotoShop creates.) This
is the same for all of the assets (Logo, poster and CD cover) as they are all
going to be created on PhotoShop and exported into the same format
(weather it is .jpg, .jpeg or .png).
As these are images, there is not a time length to them as they are not
animations or films. The length of the poster is going to be A3 then the CD
cover is going to be the right size to fit a CD cover. The logo is going to be
quite large as I am going to have to make a vector graphic. This is
because I have added the logo on the centre of the poster and the spine
of the CD; this means that it can have NO detrition. This also means that I
may have to create a small, medium and large version of the logo these
will be the same however, they will just be in different sizes to do certain
jobs.

The image to the right

is an example of
having a small image
expanded:
This is a simplistic
example of what will
happen to the logo is I
create it too small. I
might be able to use
mathematics to decide
on how large A3 is,
then how big the canvas is and how much space is going to be on either
side of the image.

The image to the right

shows the A3 size as being
27 centimetres wide and 42
centimetres long. As I want
the logo to be a square and
fit around of the width, I
am going to make the large
logo 17 centimetres long and have a 5 centimetres either side of the logo.
This is so that the logo is quite large on the page without having it be too
large.
I am going to do a similar thing with the CD as I did the poster; the CD
cover is shown on the image to the left.
The image to the left shows the size of the
CD cover, as I am going to make the logo
most of the front of the over it will be 4-4
inches, this leaves a 0.35 inch gap around
the entire CD. The logo is going to have to
be large in order to be seen from behind
the characters.

Nature of content:

The nature of the content is to create assets (logo, poster and CD cover)
for a band.

The content is a logo, CD cover and a poster,

after I looked into the different assets already in genre that I chose, I have
already shown and explained all of the content that I am gong 5to produce
in this assignment.
The images below are all of the scanned in storyboards that I created in
this assignment.

The images above all show the storyboards, the storyboards show what I
am making in this assignment. The logo is simple and repeatedly used in
the other assets. The style of these assets is pixel art, this is because the
band name is was in the brief was given was the Pixels. As I was given
The Pixels as a name, I chose to create some pixel art to suit the name.
Consideration of audience usages/ target audience:

As I have chosen the gothic metal

genre, the majority of the audience are
going to be either alternate or gothic,
these branches out into many different
sub-genres and sub-sub genres; this is
because gothic genre is so big that it
has actually developed entire genres on
its own.
The image to the left are all of the
genres under metal, these are quite
extensive, this is why I am going to
simply call the target audience alternate
as finding an individual crowd to focus
on would take a lot of time.

Layout design:

The images below are the storyboards; these show the layout I designed
for the poster, CD covers and the logos.
The images above show the layouts, as well as this, I
also wrote out some sizes and measurements on this
document, the image to the right show the
measurements of the poster and assets and the CD
cover and assets. In the paragraph, I talk about how
much space I am going to leave either side of the logo,
as this is the main feature on the poster and CD cover.
I decided to go with a similar poster lay out as a CD
cover layout.

The layout of the poster is simple enough, the image to the right shows
the scanned in storyboard. This shows the main central image of 16-bit
art, under this is a fake floor, which I used to make room for the
information I had to add to the poster (this includes tour dates, locations
and contact information number and website).

Input and manipulation of images:

Although I do not start working on the actual graphics until
the next unit I have designed the storyboards with a good
knowledge of what I can and cannot do on PhotoShop, as I
am just making images (and do not need to make them
move or animate them at all) it is quite simple. The image to the right
shows the scanned in storyboard of the poster.

This is going to be quite easy to make, the most difficult part of the design
is the fade of the floating face, and this is through using and manipulating
a gradient.
The fade on the logo is going to be the only major manipulation in this
assignment; apart from this, the other manipulation would be using the
scale tool on PhotoShop to starch, shrink move and rotate different assets
to make the logo, poster and CD cover.
The scale tool is going to be used heavily in this assignment as it is used
to move, rotate, shrink and expand different assets, this is useful when
creating the documents as they have different parts that all need to be
scaled and in the right place. An example of how the scale tool can be
used if I accidentally create an asset that is too large or if an asset is
imported and is rotated slightly, the scale tool can fix these.
Selection of style and tone:

The style and tone I have used is a pixelated style. This is because I was
given the band name The Pixels. I chose this style to match up with the
name I was given. I was able to think of the logo, poster and CD cover
almost straight away as I was given my choice of genre. The storyboard to
the right shows the storyboard for the poster I am creating.

I keep using the poster as the main example as this is the one with the
most going on; this is because there is the logo, the characters, the floor,
the information and the background. This is also because the poster has
the more difficult aspects and I can write more about the poster than just
the logo.
As I have mentioned several times, I am going to be having a gradient in
the floating pace/logo, this is where the mouth is going to be an orange
shade then it will fade into a dark shade of red at the top of the face. This
can be done with the gradient tool and the manipulating gradient tool.
This is where you can change the direction of a gradient and change the
speed of the gradient (how fast the gradient changes from the original
colour to the second colour in this case orange to red.)

Consideration of limitation and advantage of format:

As I am just creating, images and I do not
have to create them to move or have to animate the images. I have
designed the following storyboards to show what I am going to create for
each thing; these include a description of what is on the storyboard.

As I created the storyboards above with a good knowledge of my own

technical limitations and the softwares technical limitations, I designed
some simple pixel art that I would have no problem creating the assets.
The only thing that would be a challenge is the gradient I have chosen to
add into the logo; but after watching the introduction videos to a previous
assignment, I learnt all about gradients and the tool that can manipulate
gradients.
If this assignment was an animation or to create animations (like the
previous assignment) I may have ran into a few technical limitations,
however I have already explained my simple design so I would not run
into technical limitations.

Deadline schedule:

The deadline schedule was given to me in detail

through a document called the ILP, the image
to the right is a screen shot from the ILP.
The image to the right show the ILP, this is what
shows me all of the deadlines, this includes the
proposal, the proposal is due to be finished on
the start of Monday, however I have almost
finished it today (Wednesday). Then I have the
storyboards, ILP and sources to create by next
Tuesday.
Without the ILP I would not be able to see
exactly how many sessions I have, left and how
much time each item of work took me to create.

Ton conclude:
This document was mainly all about what
my ideas are for this unit, the storyboards below are all of the assets I am
going to be making in this unit.

In addition, this document is all about the ideas I had to create these
storyboards and some information on how I am going to be creating the
images with Adobe PhotoShop 2015 cc.

Update: the image to the left is the grave I was

thinking of when
creating the logo.

Update: Changing poster and CD cover, same face in background but as a

giant creature looming over the band.
