Introduction:
images above
show some of the posters and CD covers from the bands Marylin Manson
and Rammstein. These show that the posters and CDs often have at least
one/all of the band members on the posters and CDs. As I am animating
mine I will incorporate 8/16 bit characters, this is to give the Pixels theme.
As a lot of these use black and red colour schemes I am going to also
incorporate this, the only thing that may not be in this scheme are the
characters, this is so that they will stand out and additional colours on the
poster will add details. An example of this is having the characters wear
pixelated Doc Martens and having a pixel of yellow just above to represent
the tag (this easily adds lots of detail and colour to the image with very
little effort.)
Storyboards
The storyboards I have created for this assignment below, they show the
logo, the CD cover and the poster that I have designed for the band.
Poster!
The image to the right shows the scanned in story board for the poster
that I created. I got the idea for the face in the middle an
original Mario game as i was thinking of
pixelated designs and gothic based
designs and I remembered the old
gravestones on Mario, the image to the
left shows the old gravestones from Mario.
The image to the left is one of the more
renovated ones but this was the only one I
could find, in the older versions the gravestone smiles.
The image to the left is not the expression I was looking for. However,
after searching Mario gravestones all I could fine were images of actual
graves.
The pixelated characters under the face was my way of incorporating the
band into the poster as well as having the bottom 1/4th of the poster free
to add details on (the brief specifies that I need to include certain details
on the poster.)
For the face I am going to create a red/orange face from top to bottom,
this is by using and manipulating a gradient from PhotoShop. For the
details, I am going to make up a few different arenas around the UK and a
few different dates from 2018 with a couple weeks in-between.
Lots of ideas came from the posters and CD covers that I
posted right at the top of this document in the introduction
as I have looked into other bands from the genre and looked
at what there posters and CDs look like.
CD cover!
The CD cover is very simplistic and it is a smaller/more cramped version of
the poster. The main differences are that instead of hovering above the
characters the face is in the background of the characters. However as the
eyes and some of the mouth are still visible it still looks quite good, this
also has all of the important information on the back (this includes a bar
code, 8 song names, small print, the bands logos and other important
logos.
The assets from this CD are going to be quite easy to get as I will have
already created them on the poster, the only assets in will need to make
specifically for this are the spine and the back, this will include the logo on
the spine and the text that I mentioned above.
Logo!
The logo is a very important part of the assignment as it is
going to be plastered all over the work. The image to the right shows the
scanned in logo that I have drawn out; this shows the same pixelated face
that appears on the poster and on the CD cover. I have decided to do this
from the start as by plastering the logo on the poster and the CD cover I
have saved time creating additional content and space by not using
useless content and instead using the logos as where ever I can.
Establish concepts:
images, I go into
detail about the individual assets used in the sections. An example of this
is in the poster section I go on to reference my thought process to having
the face in the middle (I thought of gothic assets that were also 8/16-bit
and remembered the gravestones enemies from Mario).
The storyboards that I explained in detail are below!
The format I have selected for these images is PhotoShop, this is where I
will create/edit the images, from there I am going to export them as .png
or .jpeg or .jpg files, this is because they are widely used and accepted on
all softwares, this is not like .psd files (files that PhotoShop creates.) This
is the same for all of the assets (Logo, poster and CD cover) as they are all
going to be created on PhotoShop and exported into the same format
(weather it is .jpg, .jpeg or .png).
As these are images, there is not a time length to them as they are not
animations or films. The length of the poster is going to be A3 then the CD
cover is going to be the right size to fit a CD cover. The logo is going to be
quite large as I am going to have to make a vector graphic. This is
because I have added the logo on the centre of the poster and the spine
of the CD; this means that it can have NO detrition. This also means that I
may have to create a small, medium and large version of the logo these
will be the same however, they will just be in different sizes to do certain
jobs.
Nature of content:
The nature of the content is to create assets (logo, poster and CD cover)
for a band.
The images above all show the storyboards, the storyboards show what I
am making in this assignment. The logo is simple and repeatedly used in
the other assets. The style of these assets is pixel art, this is because the
band name is was in the brief was given was the Pixels. As I was given
The Pixels as a name, I chose to create some pixel art to suit the name.
Consideration of audience usages/ target audience:
Layout design:
The images below are the storyboards; these show the layout I designed
for the poster, CD covers and the logos.
The images above show the layouts, as well as this, I
also wrote out some sizes and measurements on this
document, the image to the right show the
measurements of the poster and assets and the CD
cover and assets. In the paragraph, I talk about how
much space I am going to leave either side of the logo,
as this is the main feature on the poster and CD cover.
I decided to go with a similar poster lay out as a CD
cover layout.
The layout of the poster is simple enough, the image to the right shows
the scanned in storyboard. This shows the main central image of 16-bit
art, under this is a fake floor, which I used to make room for the
information I had to add to the poster (this includes tour dates, locations
and contact information number and website).
This is going to be quite easy to make, the most difficult part of the design
is the fade of the floating face, and this is through using and manipulating
a gradient.
The fade on the logo is going to be the only major manipulation in this
assignment; apart from this, the other manipulation would be using the
scale tool on PhotoShop to starch, shrink move and rotate different assets
to make the logo, poster and CD cover.
The scale tool is going to be used heavily in this assignment as it is used
to move, rotate, shrink and expand different assets, this is useful when
creating the documents as they have different parts that all need to be
scaled and in the right place. An example of how the scale tool can be
used if I accidentally create an asset that is too large or if an asset is
imported and is rotated slightly, the scale tool can fix these.
Selection of style and tone:
The style and tone I have used is a pixelated style. This is because I was
given the band name The Pixels. I chose this style to match up with the
name I was given. I was able to think of the logo, poster and CD cover
almost straight away as I was given my choice of genre. The storyboard to
the right shows the storyboard for the poster I am creating.
I keep using the poster as the main example as this is the one with the
most going on; this is because there is the logo, the characters, the floor,
the information and the background. This is also because the poster has
the more difficult aspects and I can write more about the poster than just
the logo.
As I have mentioned several times, I am going to be having a gradient in
the floating pace/logo, this is where the mouth is going to be an orange
shade then it will fade into a dark shade of red at the top of the face. This
can be done with the gradient tool and the manipulating gradient tool.
This is where you can change the direction of a gradient and change the
speed of the gradient (how fast the gradient changes from the original
colour to the second colour in this case orange to red.)
Deadline schedule:
Ton conclude:
This document was mainly all about what
my ideas are for this unit, the storyboards below are all of the assets I am
going to be making in this unit.
In addition, this document is all about the ideas I had to create these
storyboards and some information on how I am going to be creating the
images with Adobe PhotoShop 2015 cc.
