Development
Allow students time to think about something they want to draw/write about. If struggling help probe
them with idea Something they did at home, at school, and/or with a friend. Students will first draw
their picture and then write. If they need help writing, make sure the first letter is correct because that is
the most important at this point in their development. Use hand motions from the classroom setting to
help guide the letter sounds.

Closure Have students show you what they drew and read what they wrote. Afterwards, collect journals and have
students tell you where they will be playing to start out choice time.
