Students, Parents and Educators.

Over the years many things have changed. Cars from the 1800s are much more

improved now in 2017. Many things have been evolved and have become better for everyone. In

1821 the educational system was created and you would assume we would have become with

better ways of teaching but we really havent come far. Teachers still make us sit in rows of

desks, we have to ask to leave a room and we are still taught the exact same thing over and over

again. Google says education is defined as a noun with two meanings; the process of receiving or

giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university or an enlightening experience.

Although I agree with these definitions, the schooling system could always improve. With

improvement education can benefit students, parents and educators more than it already

has.

One of the most important parts of the educational system are the students, they matter

the most. It should be more about actually understanding concepts instead of only knowing them

just to pass a test. During this time period students are trying so hard just to learn to everything

so they can pass the exam and never have to think about those subjects again. School shouldnt

be this nightmare with no happiness or fun attached to it. There many different techniques to

teaching, one of them being Problem-Based Learning which is using problem solving context to

facilitate experiential learning. (Woznik). Basically saying that they give children problems and

then the children, using logical thought, have to figure things out. By doing this it also helping

them for future problems. It helps children to think before they speak or perform an action.

Another thing some educators should try is Experiential Learning which helps students

understand concepts taught in class. Its a form of learning benefiting everyone. Some children

are visual learners, some kids are more of hands-on learners while others are learners who simply

can read and be satisfied. Few children actually learn anything by sitting in a chair and reading it.

Teachers and schools should try to make a better educational system by teaching topics or

subjects in different way. They should try to somehow combine reading, visual and hands on

projects. In many schools theyre only some projects or assignments students can actual do based

on how they like to learn. People should try more so we could give every student the exact same

opportunity because everyone deserves that.

Many people dont believe parents are affected by education as much as they are. In a

speech given by Richard Riley, Secretary of Education, said, excellent, some are improving,

some have the remarkable capacity to change for the better. Some should never be called schools

at all." (Ravitch) There are many schools who dont have the money or funding to becoming

better. They become stuck in teaching and trying to get kids to go through and pass high school

that they become seen as a bad school but they are simply doing whatever it takes to either get

these kids out or give them a better future. Usually only minorities attend underfunded schools

such as the last one mentioned. Most likely have only one parent who struggle to make ends

meet sometimes. People should always try to change this, there are many people who donate to

the wrong causes. Many dont understand that most families with very low incomes cant just get

up and move to a better school district. Most likely those houses near good schools are very
Camargo 3

expensive to live in. Children are forced to stay in bad neighborhoods and terrible schools

because they couldnt afford a private school or move to a different location. A solution to this

problem could be more School of Choice programs. School of Choice is a program allowing

students to attend better schools a little out of their school area. They are allowed into these

better schools if they have a good GPA, have low to none absences and no suspensions. Valerie

Stauss, a writer for The Washington Post, said often pick and choose the students they want;

and drain vital resources from traditional schools that accept all students (Stauss) referring to

better schools. It is kind of wrong that they pick only the best for their schools while others are

struggling to become better to get into these schools. By doing this schools are helping out low

income students and also helping parents see their children succeed in life and go into a

profession.

Education is what keeps the world moving, it keeps improving. Educators spend

countless hours making lesson plans and teaching in classrooms. Continuing on with

underfunded schools, they dont get to benefit every child because of stereotypes. Hansel Burley,

a writer in an article said Wacquant argued that in the last 20 years of the 20th century, the

ghetto and prison have merged into one entity, an unrelenting whirlpool of inequality and

exclusion. (Burley). He was trying to explain that because of stereotyping many people dont

make it out, the prison system keeps them coming in and out. Usually once convicted, even if

innocent, police will most likely take you back to prison or jail just because of that. Stereotyping

has a huge impact on education and the educators. Underfunded schools with mostly minorities

are seen as they dont try enough and because of this educators dont feel the need to be trying so

hard either. Educators always try their best to keep their hopes up. Also there is a lot of
Camargo 4

stereotypes with English language learners. An article states Through grants to states, ESEA has

played a critical role in building national capacity to serve these students, who account for a

growing proportion of the public school population. (Making Federal Education) Most

underfunded schools don't get really big grants so their ELL programs have low success rate.

Educators have tried to make the educational system better but it's a lot harder without grants or

a lot of money coming in. Most teachers have to do the best they can with what they're given,

which in most cases isn't much. With education many teachers have expanded their levels or

teaching and have gotten higher degrees to become more.

Recently President Donald Trump launch 60 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles at Syria. Each

Tomahawk sea-launched cruise missile approximately costs $2,981,000, he launched sixty of

them which would make the total cost of all sixty around $178,860,000 (Starr). The United

States couldve fed the poor, take in refugees, cleaned up the environment and fixed our schools

with that kind of money. Education is what gets us places. Its why things have become better

and makes everyone happier. Being able to go to school is one of the biggest freedoms that the

U.S. offers to everyone because in many countries women aren't allowed. Education is what

helps us get out of our races stereotype and try to make a new one for little children to follow.

Education could improve for students, educators and parents.
