Christopher Maher
Superintendent of Providence Schools
Providence Public School
797 Westminster St
Providence, RI 02903

Dear Christopher Maher:

Ever since I was in high school I loved working with children, I have a way with children that only a
rare person may have. I knew how to speak to a children and make them feel more comfortable with me.
I have always been passionate in my commitment of communicating with my students so they can be
open and honest with me about their education and their lives. Through the classes I have taken at the
University of Texas at El Paso, and by completing over 100 hours observation and student service
learning hours, and by working as a Teachers Instructional Aide has prepared me to understand that
teacher can be a hard job and that no matter how prepared you are there is always still room to grow.

As a teacher I believe that students are always improving, students are always learning. As a community
we learn through each other. As a teacher I must always be improving as a student myself on how am I
allowing the students to learn. As a teacher I must be the students facilitator of collaborative learning to
help support the student in their learning. I am an active supporter of differential instruction I value the
concept that no one student is the same so instruction should not be either. Through differential
instruction we may learn the material in many different ways, some students may not understand and
when the teacher explains it in a different way they will comprehend, the multiple intelligence, vary set
of reading level questions, grouping students, are just a few great examples.

I have had experience with a diverse group of students who are in the special education program, and I
have always valued the students and I learned how to be patience and be a kind encouraging individual
throughout my career. I work with each student individually and provide them with the support they may
need. Through working with these students, I have learned from each and every one of them.

I believe that through communication with family, friends, teacher and each other we can learn and grow
through each others experiences. I want to allow my students to feel at ease when speaking to their
peers, parents and especially with me, by building the trust which will allow the students to become
more open and honest with their feelings and how they feel they are being taught. By knowing your
students at a deeper level you can learn how to motivate those in a way that will help them grow as a
student and as a person.

Sincerely,

Audrey Duran
