EMIRATES ARENA & VELODROME.
Glasgow - Scotland

PROJECT DETAILS

VENUE: Emirates Arena & Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome

COMMISSION: Full Design Services
CLIENT: Glasgow City Council
PROJECT VALUE: 90m

ABOUT THE PROJECT

One of the key venues for Glasgows bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games is their new NISA and
Velodrome.

Sport Concepts led an international team of consultants in the design of this unique facility. This is
effectively four buildings in one! There is an indoor velodrome with a 250 metre wood track, a 5,000
seat multi-purpose indoor athletics arena, three indoor sports halls, and two office floors for the national
sports federations.

In addition to its use for international sports competitions, the complex plays an important role in elite
athlete training and public sports and recreation.

The development is a cornerstone in the redevelopment of the east end of Glasgow. The building
opened in January 2013.

Liverpool - England

PROJECT DETAILS

VENUE: Liverpool Echo Arena

COMMISSION: Full Design Services
CLIENT: Liverpool Vision
PROJECT VALUE: 120m

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Sport Concepts assembled a team of internationally renowned consultants to win this international
design competition. The team included Wilkinson Eyre Architects, Faber Maunsell Engineers, and Buro
Happold Engineers.

The project was part of the facilities required for Liverpools 2008 European City of Culture celebrations.
The Arena & Conference Centre Liverpool is prominently located on reclaimed land in the Kings Dock
next to the Mersey River. The facilities include a 9,400 seat multi-purpose arena, a 1,350 seat
conference centre with associated meeting rooms and 5,000 sqm of exhibition halls.

To enhance the use and flexibility of the arena, it is linked at the arena floor level with the exhibition
halls. By utilizing the arena floor for exhibitions, the exhibition space is increased to 8,000 sm. The arena
and conference centre are linked at the arena public concourse level by a triple height atrium space
that accommodates food service and other customer amenities.

The complex opened January 2008 and has exceeded the original projections for event bookings.

PROJECT DETAILS

VENUE: Athens 2004 Olympic Handball and Taekwondo Arena

COMMISSION: Schematic Design
CLIENT: Athens 2004 Olympic Committee
PROJECT VALUE: 40m

ABOUT THE PROJECT

One of the key venues for the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games was the 8,000 seat Handball and
Taekwondo arena. This facility is the cornerstone of the redevelopment of the Faliron Bay area. The
goal was to create a landmark facility that serves the local community and acts as a "beacon" in
attracting the public to the redeveloped waterfront.

Sport Concepts led the local team of designers and working with TPA Architects, developed this unique
facility. The Olympic overlay was the major design parameter, yet the facility is designed to convert to
a community event centre in the post Olympic configuration.

After the Olympics 4,000 spectator seats were removed and a number of "community rooms" were
constructed on the main concourse. The remaining 4,000 spectator seats are installed on telescoping
platforms offering total flexibility in rapidly configuring the building for a variety sports, entertainment,
and exhibition activities.

PROJECT DETAILS

VENUE: Athens 2004 Olympic Boxing Arena

COMMISSION: Schematic Design
CLIENT: Athens 2004 Olympic Committee
PROJECT VALUE: 25m

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Sport Concepts led a local team of designers in the design of the boxing venue for the 2004 Athens

Boxing Associations requirements for Olympic competition, yet is designed to be removed from the site
after the Olympics.

The service pods that accommodate toilet and food service facilities are prefabricated and are
designed to be reused in another location. The main arena structure is designed for easy dismantling
and recycling while the seating will simply be rented and returned after the Games. Although not
constructed, this concept has become the model for other venues that were constructed for the 2004
Games and more recent Olympics.

landmark for the City of Vilnius.

The public entries are one of the major architectural features of the Stadium and are positioned
prominently in the ceter of each side. Large amounts of glass are proposed in these areas.

This subconsciously attracts spectators to the entrances and when used at night, the glowing entrances
heightened the spectators' sense of arrival.
