What would be the best book for robotics? (See question

I am looking for a good book on robotics (in general)
Then another book on sensors (beginner level) Update Your Interests

And if you can, please list a book on microcontrollers and robotics. I need to know the
best book on electronics (I really don't want to read art of electronics, the new edition is
not out yet and there are some obsolete things in the present edition and they don't have
some essential topics such as UMCs). It would be helpful if you could refer some book
which introduces to basics on how actuators, gear trains, other mechanical systems
work. I just need books which don't require much prerequisite knowledge. I know basic
physics and maths (up to calculus level), I know coding as well. No exposure to
electronics.

I would like to suggest 3 books:
- Springer Handbook of Robotics: Bruno Siciliano, Oussama Khatib
A rather massive and comprehensive book about robotics at large.

- Amazon.com: Introduction to Autonomous Mobile Robots: Roland Siegwart, Illah Reza

Nourbakhsh, Davide Scaramuzza
A great introduction to mobile robotics: kinematics, perception, localization, navigation
planning.

- Probabilistic Robotics: Sebastian Thrun, Wolfram Burgard, Dieter Fox
A more advanced book about probabilistic methods in robotics, such as monte-carlo, and
their applications to robot localization and SLAM. Question Stats

If you are interested in Intelligent Robotics, you should check out the book, Probabilistic
Robotics (some people like to call it the bible of Intelligent Robotics). However, for a
beginner, it could be easier to start with this course on Udacity by the first author of the
book-> Artificial Intelligence for Robotics

This is a wonderful course, and is taught by none other than Sebastian Thrun , who leads
the development of the Google Self Driving car.

Do not expect books to help you alot with these things. Go buy an arduino, open up
instructables, and start an arduino project. Pick something you like and do it. As you go
along you will face problems, many many problems, this is when you open your books and
start searching for solutions and alternatives.

A simple book would be Introduction to Robotics Mechanics and Control by J J Craig.

Another book which also deals about sensors used will be Robotics: Control, Sensing,
Vision,andIntelligence [K.S.Fu, R.C. Gonzalez, C.S.G. Lee]. For a much rigorous drill can
refer to AMathematicalIntroductiontoRoboticManipulation [Richard M. Murray,
Zexiang Li, S. Shankar Sastry, S. Shankara Sastry]

For micro-controllers/electronics, there are no such best books since there are so many in
the market that talk about the same stuff. However, you might want go through some
books dealing with mechatronics that might contain a fair amount of information about
actuators, sensors and other mechanical systems as you mentioned.

Being a student and studying the subject I would suggest the following book. It is by an
Indian professor at IIT Delhi. The book is written well and has comprehensive and broad
introductory content, best suited for beginners.

Introduction to Robotics S K Saha

For the physics involved in robotics, another good book is Classical Mechanics by Sankara
Rao.

I would personally develop experience with simple mechanics and electronics first. Basic
mechanics is somewhat easy to grasp, since a lot of it can be visualised/modeled easily. I
would advise that you look further into electronics. If you are looking for potential books, I
would advise on some (perhaps too basic) textbooks for 16-18 education on electronics
and/or robotics and systems and control. Whilst I might be condescending, the
information is presented in an easy to understand format, with plenty of diagrams and
basic circuitry. If possible, have a play around in a circuit simulation software. Create basic
circuits first, and add to them as you gain experience. Perhaps a simple lightbulb, switch,
and cell, and then introducing transistors and potential dividers. From there, you can
advance to simple microchips like a 555 timer, and then PIC chips. Hope this is useful!
