Categorizing my research on bathroom bills
Looking at my sources from my research it was clear that each one held its own
distinct differences. With the conversation on bathroom bills being fairly recent there
was a huge spike in articles and media that cover the topic. I categorized my sources by
both type of content using Web, Government and academic labels. I then put a moniker
of popular on the source if it was a well known publication or outlet. I then divided the
evidence into two spaces, pro thesis, anti thesis. The last thing I did was mark those
sources which used precedents as statistical.
One thing I wanted to h was a large amount of statistical evidence in order to
have what I have written down be reinforced by some sort of precedent study or case.
Web sources were my focus as they were much easier to access on this topic as it is a
generally new one. This allows me to have a focus on what sort of information I want to
filter into the research essay. I have an almost even number of pro thesis works and
neutral works with statistics that give me a good amount of data. More than anything I
am taking the sources from the pro thesis works and reading through and using them as
extra support.
My working thesis is that the fight for bathroom equality is unnecessary do to the
equal nature of Transgender people, not knowing their sex if they pass, and the fact
that they are a very small segment of the community that want to be catered to. I back
up my population claim with an article from the New York Times published in June of
2016 making the data pretty accurate at this time (2017). The article, Estimate of U.S.
Transgender Population Doubles to 1.4 Million Adults puts the transgender population
at .06 percent of all Americans which is double what was recorded in a 2011 study. The
2011 study was referenced in the Hunter Avallone video The Truth about Target's
Bathroom Policy which goes over how Targets new bathroom policy in 2016 may have
been inclusive to transgender people but not to those w being sho felt that a gender
neutral bathroom would jeopardize them or their children easily leaving the door open to
sex offenders who may use the policy as a loophole to just enter restrooms.
Time, however disagrees with this stance as the transgender community has also
been told that this will stop trans women from preying on children and women. What

they say to this is that there is no evidence of trans women who prey upon children and
women. I thought to myself that this can not be true and with thorough research of this
claim and came across a link to a sit with the headline since when is 90% not all that
linked to multiple articles of transvestites who are considered part of the transgender
community being convicted of rape on multiple occasions. It also speaks on how, 60%
of convicted sex offenders have transgender fetish as their primary paraphillia, with a
paraphillia being a psychological sexual disorder.
Aside from the New York Times article, there are three other neutral, statistical
articles which I gather information from the first being an article from NBC named
Here's how the 'bathroom bills' in North Carolina and Texas measure up where the
bathroom bills in both North Carolina and Texas are compared. This source can also be
used to back the idea that these laws are not meant to impede the transgender
community especially in North Carolina where, ABC says a Senetor Dan Bishop made
the following statement in April of 2016 [to] restore common sense bathroom and
shower management policy in public buildings, not to pick out people to punish, is the
purpose of the bill. Next is the National Conference of State Legislatures which has kept
a detailed list of the twenty-six states that are currently debating or dealing with some
sort of transgender bathroom legislation. The Final statistical source is from Constitution
Daily, a publication of the National Constitution Center. This Article contains key cases
and opinions on the matter of bathroom bills with the biggest one being Grimm v.
Gloucester County School Board.
There are two articles which I pulled directly from The Hunter Avallone video
mentioned above as well as a second video of his titled, Trump vs Transgender
Bathrooms. The first of the articles is from the blaze and is named Dad Takes
Daughter to Target to Confront Manager on Transgender Bathroom Policy and Isnt
Happy About What the Manager Tells Him, and covers the story a dad gave through his
facebook about how his daughter felt uncomfortable hearing that men could possibly
enter the womens restroom and shows that there are some not comfortable with
gender neutral restrooms. The second is from the popular publication the Huffington
Post named University Of Toronto Gender-Neutral Bathrooms Reduced After

Voyeurism Reports which gives a prime example of how people can bypass the rules of
gender neutral bathrooms in disgusting ways. The video, which is my final source,
covers the trangender community's reaction to President Trumps removal of an Obama
era directive which gave guidelines to implement gender neutral bathrooms on a federal
level. This video uses sources such as PBSNewshour, Breitbart, and Western
Journalism. All of my sources come from reputable places and will be easy to apply to
my research paper allowing for a streamlined paper thanks to how much I was able to
thoroughly examine each one.
