Executive Summary
This document contains the summary of tenders submitted to the call for tender,
which Innovators Co. ran in behalf of EMPACT. The leading tenderer is the company
which strongly satisfied all the criteria cited in the Tender Evaluation Criteria, TEC. All
the tenders had been marked against the Tender Evaluation Criteria, TEC.

After studying all the tender submitted, Innovators Co. had chosen Innovations
as the winning company. The marks awarded to the three tendering companies are as
follows:

Tenderer Percentage Mark (%)

1. Innovations 80 %
2. Celestial Mechanics 65 %
3. Bestech 30 %

Innovations is awarded the first position for a well set up tender with all
compatible documents. Innovations outlined all the criteria discussed in the TEC and
responded all the questions precisely and at length. The company has provided
persuasive information regarding experience and previous employment with clear
documentation of their work. They portrayed the safety plans perfectly and with
meticulous info which explains their earnestness about the risk management for the
task. They presented information about PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) with
illustrations which confirms that they have experience of working with tools. For the
understanding of design, they have nicely demonstrated the methodology of
constructing the rover with some concerns and solutions. We acknowledged their
concern describing the inclined platform back and forth of the rover. Innovations justified
themselves to be punctual and skillful with their work. They have a good communicating
skill. Though they reviewed the design package perfectly but some of their data were
not well-founded. The evidences were not clear enough and standardized. They lack in
the general knowledge section too. For these reasons, our company was initially
doubtful of their understandings but after further analysis it was found that they possess
all the requirements as mentioned in the TEC.

Celestial Mechanics handed over a good tender review. They fulfilled all the
criteria mentioned in the TEC. They arranged nice response for the understanding of
ii

design where they have scrutinized the design and added their concerns. But none of
their concerns were lucid enough to be approved. They could not present authentic
indication for the experience and previous job. Most of their attachments did not have
ample validation. They have a satisfying communicating expertise. They lost most of
their marks for the lack of valid info. They have not presented any specific information
about the safety management plan, which is essential for the design. Except all these
issues the tender review of Celestial Mechanics is a good one.

Bestech has presented a poor submission. They responded one criteria from all
the criteria specified in the TEC. They have not provided any clear explanation of the
design package. Their concerns were groundless. They have made certain claims in
their tender review of their different involvement of work which had no sign to prove. So,
they got the lowest mark.

In summary, Innovators Co. is eager to select Innovations for constructing the

Mars Lander. Celestial Mechanics will be the second preference. It is suggested that, if
any of these companies is not available to construct the Mars Lander then Innovators
Co. is willing to rerun the tender, considering Bestech had failed to hand over a decent
tender review.

3.0 Innovations Tender Review

3.1 DESIGN PACKAGE REVIEW
Overview
The purpose of the design of a Mars Land Rover is to find out if Mars is or was
suitable for life. However, for the sake of Engineering Foundations Principles and
Communications, it is for us to be capable of constructing a prototype of this rover
that can carry a weight of 600 mL water bottle from a vertical drop of 1 metre, with
acceleration from a 30 degree slant made from a 2 metre platform.

Brief discussed
In the briefing of the project, or the Project Goal, we have found that you have not
been specific when stating without any significant damage. With many possibilities
of what the goal of this specific prototype is when landing, we are finding difficulty if
your design and construction method is able to fulfil the requirements to achieve your
companys Project Goal. Such as:

Having the bottle in exact condition after landing as it was before

See if the vehicle is capable of holding the bottle within as it experiences free fall

Whether the vehicle still attains, or continuing its previous movement capabilities

Whether the vehicle is in exact condition after landing as it was before

Our company Innovations would appreciate a more extensive explanation of what

your company wishes, so that we are able to produce a product that Innovators Co.
will be satisfied with.

Design discussed
We do find however, that Innovators Co. has produced a design that will achieve the
purpose of moving down the slope, falling, and keeping the bottle within the vehicle.
This is achieved by having each component within the vehicle designed has a
purpose that will improve the chances of this goal being achieved. The purposes of
these components can be explained in the list below:

Wheels: The vehicle designed makes use of a more practical concept, in

comparison to the conventional use of 2 wheels. This concept is for the
vehicle to have a set of 3 wheels, allowing for a greater distribution of force
when the rover hits the floor from free falling. This reduces the chance of the
rover deconstructing in the impact.
Great thickness in wheels: The design requires that the wheels of the vehicle
having 6 layers of the cardboard, rather than 1. This will result in greater
depth, allowing for greater strength and stability when it experiences landing.
4

Cardboard: Cardboard is obviously chosen for its cheap purchase, in

comparison to metal or wood. The ease of cutting and shaping to the users
needs also makes cardboard a more obvious choice for this prototype.

Columns: Columns will be inserted inside to allow the bottle to fit more
securely, reducing the chance of the object from falling out, or gain
momentum from free falling.

Bands: Rubber bands will act as straps to enhance the stability of the bottle
by having constant force acting on the bottle, and reduce the chance of it
falling out.

Axle: The axle will be 3-d printed to remove the complications of constructing
this part, and allows for greater time spent on constructing the other parts.
The purpose of including an axle is to attach the wheels to the body, allowing
the body to move wherever required.

Innovations however have found 2 issues within your design that does not
acknowledge, the first being the issue of the rover rotating as it vertically falls. We
have discussed, and suggest that an angled platform should be attached to the front
and back of the rover to return the rover back onto its desired face. If preferred,
another suggestion would be to attach 2 more sets of wheels onto the rover. 1 set
onto the front, and 1 set on the back, once again, to return the rover back onto its
desired face.

The second issue we find with your design is the suspension in the vehicle. From a
fall of 1 metre, the vehicle will experience a large force from hitting the ground as it
lands. Without suspension, components within the vehicle may be dramatically
harmed, with our concerns on the wheels particularly. Primarily on the axles that
connect the wheels to the body.

Construction discussed
We would like to summarise our interpretation of your design to allow you to see that
we understand your companys desire.

Innovators Co. have designed a Mars Land Rover that will have 6 wheels
in total, with a simple body predominately made from cardboard.
These wheels will be of 45 mm radius, and will have its depth provided by
the repetitive addition of cardboard wheels onto each others.
The walls will be done in a similar fashion, by the addition of cardboard
once to create a double layered wall. The front and back of the rover will be
of 70 mm x 150 mm, with the side walls being 320 mm x 150 mm.
The axles will be simply printed by a 3d printer.
The inside of the body will be filled with columns
There will be rubber bands

The tools that are required to build the design are all attained by the team members
of Innovations. The drill (with drill bit), screw driver, band saw, Stanley knife (box
5

cutter knife), hammer, scissors, pencil and compass, are all tools that are contained
within our personal homes. The 3D printer will be acquired through Curtin University.

Innovations has provided a brief and complete overview of the

design package. They mentioned about being specific for the significant
damage which is impossible to say because if the object falls from 1 m
distance, it is hard to say which part will be damaged more. It is more
depended on the way it falls. They have also included some goals which
they are saying our project might have difficulty to fulfill. They have
mentioned whether the bottle will be in it is perfect shape after the fall or
not. But we can assure that it will be in it is perfect shape. Since we used
cardboard base over balsawood pillar and for the side walls we are
sticking the balsa wood pillars with the 2 sheets of cardboard which will
provide enough strength to it. And they have shown doubt whether our
project will be able to hold the water bottle or not, we can say that it will
cause we are using thick layers of rubbers which having very low elasticity
will hold the bottle properly though it might have some tension. They have
also raised a question about the stability which can be answered by
considering the strength of the wheels. We are combining 6 sheets of
cardboard for 1 wheel and there will 3 pair of wheels which will distribute
the load equally since it is perpendicularly connected with balsa wood
pillars and above it there is a strong basement of cardboard. So, we can
say that our rover will be stable after the 1 meter fall.

Innovations has mentioned the found 2 issues regarding the design.

The first issue was, the rover might rotate after falling vertically while
testing. But the fall is not fully vertical it will be inclined in position. Though
we might accept their issue and go for their first suggestion where they
have said to use an inclined platform back and forth. We cannot accept the
second suggestion because there are already 3 pair of wheels and extra 2
pair will make the rover heavier which might increase the damage after the
vertical fall. The second issue was the damage of the lower body of the
rover after the vertical fall, but we can assure that since our wheel are
thick and they will be connected to axles made of plastic by using 3D
printer and will be glued. They will be strong enough to be in a single piece
and hold the body together. They have also nicely described the
construction procedure and mentioned all the steps.

3.2 Quiz
Contractors for Innovators Co. for the Mars Rover project are required at least some
general background knowledge about Mars Rovers and the project itself. It is
essential for contractors to sit a short test, compose of 5 questions on multiple
aspects of this project.

What is the primary mission of mars rover?

To discover if Mars is, or was suitable for life.

In what year was the first attempt of Mars Rover began?

Started in 1973

What is the name of the first successful mars rover that arrived at Mars?

Mariner 4

Where should you store the prototype?

All of the above

Which one of the following is right when handling sharp equipment?

Keep the equipment pointing away from yourself

Innovations has answered 3 of the answers correctly. They lack a

bit in general knowledge.

3.3 Previous Employment

Innovators Co. believes that good work experiences will increase the probability of
successes in their career. Exploring to different job environment helps employees get
a real sense of this industry. Thus, it is essential for team members to have some
relevant experience. Marks will be allocated depending on the number of team
members in the group that have been previously employed. Evidences needed to be
provided to receive the marks for this section.

Figure 6 acts as evidence for Liam being employed for Woolworths for around 10
months, showing Liams work wear.

REFER TO MICHAEL REFERENCE acts as evidence for Liam being employed for
MCB carpentry solutions, showing a reference if needed to contact.

SKILLED AIR IMAGE acts as evidence for Tom being employed for Skilled Air,
showing a reference letter from his employer.
7

Tarindu was employed by The Salvation Army as a volunteer, with evidence shown in
the Appendix (A2).

Innovation has provided enough good evidence to prove that they

have the employment skill. In Appendix B, pg-30 (Appendix A1 and
Appendix A2), they mentioned about their employment with references.
For figure 6 of Appendix B, pg-30(Appendix A4) there is no actual prove of
work wear belonging to one of the contractors. In the AIRSKILL certificate
of Appendix B, pg-30 they have provided a clear evidence of a reference
letter of employment of one of the contractors.

3.4 Experience
A serious occupational injury or illnesses can affect the lives of the employee. It may
result in a potentially lifelong injury or even death. On the other, people with more
experience parallels to a greater chance of producing a more professional and
accurate prototype for our Mars Rover. This is the reason why we desire some
experience of tools or resources. Marks will be allocated depending on the number of
team members in the group that have relevant experiences. Evidences needed to be
provided to receive the marks for this section.

1. Experience with interpreting technical

drawings
Members of our company have developed strong skills in working with technical
drawings whilst being employed within AirSkill, and being involved in various projects.
PICTURE OF TECHNICAL DRAWINGS, is an example of what Tom had to read to
build these air handling units. Having to do this, he is now capable of interpreting
technical drawings and then construct physical designs at high standards from these
interpretations. Tarindu has been involved in the construction of a prototype, similar
to what Innovators Co. requires. This can be shown in PICTURE OF PROTOTYPE
HOUSE, where the prototype had to be first drawn as technical drawings, and then
constructed. These skills will be necessary when we are required to build your
designs from your very own technical drawings.

Innovations mentioned they have experience with interpreting

technical drawings since they were previously employed. They have also
provided a picture of PROTOTYPE HOUSE in Appendix B pg-30 but
there is no evidence to prove that it is their work. There is no certificate
attached or any kind of identity.

2. Experience with tools

All members of our company have experience with the use of tools, with some having
quite an in depth knowledge of how to operate them.
8

We will be capable of using all of the tools that you are requiring from us to construct
the vehicle. These are:

Drilling Machine

Screw Driver

Band saw

Box cutter knife

Hammer

Scissors

Pencil

Compass

3D printer

As previously mentioned, As previously mentioned, Liam has been employed within

Woolworths as a nightfiller. This role required Liam to work in a team environment,
and work under pressure to ensure that all products are on shelf within an assigned
time frame. To load products on shelf, Liam was required to cut open cardboard
boxes to extract the products with a box cutter (Stanley knife). With this experience,
Liam will be very efficient and accurate when having to cut the wheels and walls from
cardboard for the design.

Liam and Tom has experience in handling machinery from not only High School
woodworks class, (seen in PICTURE OF GRADES), working at MCB Carpentry
Solutions, but also AIRSKILLS. The first 2 roles mentioned has given Liam the skills
to handle drilling machines from having to drill holes for the poles (shown in
PICTURE OF BOAT), but also having to drill hundreds of screws to install insulated
roofing in a building for MCB Carpentry Solutions. Liam was also required to cut a
variety of sizes of wood for MCB to aid in plumbing services, ensuring piping was
held securely. Tom has also acquired skills in having to use drills to install air
handling units as seen in PICTURE OF REFERENCE. Having these unique
experiences, Liam and Tom has developed the appropriate skills to use drills and
band saws, particularly when having to drill holes in the walls of your vehicle for the
axles.

The scissors, pencil, hammer, compass and 3D printer were all required for Tarindus
project as shown in PICTURE OF HOUSE. Tarindu and his team had to efficiently
use these tools from using a pencil to accurately draw where actions were to made,
to cutting the materials to shape with scissors. Being a similar project to what
Innovators Co., Tarindu will be able to effectively transfer the skills developed from
that task to what you are requesting from our company. In addition, Liam also made
use of scissors, pencils, hammers and compass from previously mentioned roles.

Innovations has described their work experience nicely and also

mentioned they have the experience of working with different tools since
9

they are employed. They have certain skill which they have gained from
their employment. They also mention Tarindu project of Appendix B, pg-
30, which is given in a picture with no evidence that can prove that its their
project. Other than this, they have a good experience of working with
different tools.

3.5 Safety awareness

Safety awareness in our company is very important, as all workers should be able to
demonstrate their abilities to work safely and should always use personal protective
equipment while working. Personal protective equipment includes: safety gloves,
safety glasses, steel toe capped shoes etc. The workers should be able to identify
hazards and work out a way to mitigate the risk. Applicants can also

From the previously mentioned employments and experience that Innovations

members have, everyone has developed a keen sense of safety when operating with
familiar, or in the unlikely case, unfamiliar resources.

When overviewing the tools that you require to build the design, we have decided
that the tools that are of highest risk in harming a user is the Box cutting knife and the
drill. Due to this, we have summarized how to appropriately handle these tools.

Box cutting knife:

Ensure that the knife is clipped back into the handle when not in use

When using, ensure that there is a firm grasp on the handle with the index finger on
top of the handle (opposite side of sharp edge) to direct the cutting. This will reduce
the chance of misusing the knife and harming oneself whilst cutting the cardboard for
the wheels/walls

Drilling machine:

Always have 2 hands on it for greater stability.

Ensure the cable is not going to trip anyone

Have nothing loose on you that may get caught in the drill

Working in environments that required machinery or heavy tools, the members have
strong experience with wearing the appropriate PPE. This including:

Wearing Safety boots whenever entering a work area

Wearing safety glasses if any machinery is being in use, or any tool that may result in
something to spark/flick something out. This may be required when having to use the
drill to produce holes in the walls.

Wearing gloves when handling fast moving, sharp machinery.

Innovations has pointed the PPE which proves that they have a
sound knowledge of it. They also mentioned some of the safety rules of 2
10

different instruments. They said they have the experience of working by

maintaining safety procedures since they were employed in different
sectors. In Appendix B, pg-30 (Appendix A3) they has provided a picture
of some instrument which contains no evidence.

3.6 Understanding the design

Understanding the design is the most important step to create an excellent product.
Innovation Co team desires a perfect design. Therefore, our team expects receiving
any criticism that you realize in the design package and your constructive idea for the
package. Below are the marks follow the criteria:

Innovations have summarised our interpretation of your design below:

Having 3 sets of wheels over 2 sets This is to allow for a greater distribution of
force when the rover hits the floor from free falling. This reduces the chance of the
rover deconstructing in the impact. There will be greater depth, allowing for greater
strength and stability. Cardboard is obviously chosen for its cheap purchase, and the
ease of cutting and shaping to the users needs.

Columns inside to allow the bottle to fit more securely, reducing the chance of the
object from falling out

Rubber bands acting as straps to enhance the stability of the bottle.

The axle will be 3-d printed to remove the complications of constructing this part, and
allows for greater time spent on constructing the other parts.

As mentioned in our Design Review Package, Innovations have found 2 issues within
your design that it does not acknowledged, the first being the issue of the rover
rotating as it vertically falls. We have discussed, and suggest that an angled platform
should be attached to the front and back of the rover to return the rover back onto its
desired face. If preferred, another suggestion would be to attach 2 more sets of
wheels onto the rover. 1 set onto the front, and 1 set on the back, once again, to
return the rover back onto its desired face.

The second issue we find with your design is the suspension in the vehicle. From a
fall of 1 metre, the vehicle will experience a large force from hitting the ground as it
lands. Without suspension, components within the vehicle may be dramatically
harmed, with our concerns focused on the wheels, also on the axles that connect the
wheels to the body. We suggest that you add either foam, or springs within the axles
or body. This will allow these added components to absorb the forces harmlessly,
and release the gained force in a timely distributed manner

Innovations has clearly understood

the design package and provided the clear description of each
construction plan nicely. And the ideas for improving the design package
they have provided are logical and it will help the project to be more
effective.
11

3.7 Deadline submission the Design package

This section will be marked depending on the submitted time of design Package at
stage 1 of the applying group. The evidence of the submission will be given by the
screenshot of the submission time of the model.

Our group finds that it is impossible to reply to this tender as it requires knowledge
from after being accepted for the contract

Innovations has provided valid reasons for not replying this part. But
they have not provided any screenshot of the time of their stage 1
submission.

3.8 Communications
We at Innovators Co. require good communications skills, both oral and written to
contact us. Everything should be well structured and comprehensible. Emails, texts
and calls can be an easy way to contact us and its better to contact during the
working hours (9am-5pm). When any of our team member makes contact, we
appreciate an appropriate and detailed response. The response is also expected to
be made within one working day, during the working hours. Meetings can also be
arranged but inform us at least two days before the meeting day and be specific
about what you want to discuss. We also prefer to get a weekly progress report and
some feedback on our designs too.

Innovators Co. and Innovations had a few bumps on the way to creating a meeting
for the design. This resulted in a late message to Innovations. Co as the contractor
was involved in a state sports competition, which was detailed explained in an email.
Along the way, both companies exhibited issues with the timings, due to arising
events. This resulted in having to rearrange meetings. Throughout this, Innovations
have been replying within a day, and sending text messages as soon as events
arisen.

Innovations had a problem to create a meeting since they said their

contractors were busy in different sports competitions but they replied to
our email in time. We consider their problems. But we mentioned another
way of marking that is to provide their weekly progress report and the
timings of it. But they have not provided any related documents.

4.0 Celestial Mechanic Tender Review

4.1 Design Package Review
Understanding of the Design
At celestial mechanics, we have had numerous experiences in construction projects
and used various tools such as ones you have stated which can be shown in .
It is because of this background in dealing with various designs and structures that
we strongly believe our available skills excel the standards that your company
requires. This can be showcased further when providing our understanding of your
own design package (see 8.0 Appendix.5). From investigating the methodology and
the design drawings provided in your design package, we at Celestial Mechanics
have been able to understand the reasoning behind each intricate part and its
purpose. For example, for the wheels of the mars rover you have decided to use
cardboard. Although cardboard is thin and flimsy by itself, by gluing multiple sheets of
cardboard together you have created a sturdy, cost effective wheel which also can
provide small amounts of suspension whilst landing from the 1 metre fall. The choice
of six wheels will also provide greater stability throughout all parts of testing. The
mars rover as presented in the client brief, is required to roll 2 metres on a 30-45
degree slope before falling 1 metre. For the rover to stay in a straight line and also
withstand the impact of the fall, It must have a strong chassis body holding the
vehicle together. In order to meet this, Innovators Co. has used balsa wood for the
main body of the vehicle, and whilst being a light material it is also strong to keep the
rover sturdy on impact. Once the mars rover impacts the ground, the passenger
water bottle will experience force insisting to leave the vehicle. The multiple rubber
bands running across the top of the water bottle will provide elasticity on the water
bottle and let it move and exert less force on the rest of the rover. The force of the
water bottle Page 4 of 19 trying to escape on impact will be minimal, which therefore
praises the choice of material as it is cost effective and appropriate to withstand the
force. In a vehicle such as this, one of the most import parts is the axel which
provides the spinning motion of the wheels and therefore causes the rover to roll. To
make sure this part of the vehicle was up to standard you have used 3D printing
which shows your understanding of the importance of this aspect.

Concerns and Solutions

Although the design package you have constructed has been produced at a high
standard, it would be unprofessional of us at Celestial Mechanics to not find certain
aspects that need improvements. After thoroughly looking through your package we
found areas which could have been done differently which could help make it even
better. Initially from reading your methodology, we found a lack of referencing
diagrams. In the majority of steps you have stated to check the diagrams but have no
reference to which diagram you mean in particular. Each view contains different
positions of the vehicle and without clearly stating where to find the diagram you are
referring to it wastes time and effort when constructing the vehicle. Furthermore on
the diagrams and drawings, although you have constructed views of the vehicle from
different angles and perspectives there is no evidence of seperate drawings for each
13

part or section of the rover. This is crucial in finding exact measurements and also
gives the constructor a greater understanding without ambiguity of how it is made.
The majority of the drawings also lack depth by using dotted and dashed lines to
differentiate each line and where they are situated in regard to others. To add to this
problem some lines are also very rough in drawing and could have been made using
graph paper or something similar in order to draw straighter and more accurate lines
using the guidelines. Drawings also over lap onto other information on the page
making it look unprofessional and harder to interpret. The design itself seems
feasible and a suitable candidate for its intended purpose. One point to critic is that
the design hasnt allowed for the angled drop that the vehicle is proposed to perform.
Without a counter weight on the back end of the vehicle, it will land on an angle which
creates problems with as safe landing with all its wheels on the ground so therefore it
would be highly suggested to include in your design. Furthermore, even though the
cardboard wheels will provide some give it is possible that it wont be enough causing
the vehicle to bounce on impact and possible fail its proposed purpose.

Celestial Mechanics has provided clear and perfect explanation for

their understanding of the design package. They have mentioned about
our clear specification of various parts of the rover and the logic behind
different part. They have also discussed about the methodology.
Celestial Mechanics has shown concern about our way of
presenting the design. We accept the problem since it was the first time
we have done this kind of project so it was tough for us to provide
everything in a perfect way but we tried our level best. And there was a
problem in formatting so everything was a little messed up. They have also
shown concern about the angle fall, where they have suggested to provide
a counter weight at the back which will be great since the rover will fall in
an inclined position it might flip so it is better so provide a counter weight
at the back to provide it a balance. According to our thinking the wheels
might provide that support but we will go for a weight at the back it will be
safer.

c. Uncover the object before it is time to use it

d. Keep the equipment pointing away from yourself

Celestial Mechanics have answered all the questions correctly

which proves they have a clear general knowledge about the project.

4.3 Safety Awareness

At Celestial Mechanics we have team members which have had experience in
projects which require large amounts of safety awareness. In order to construct a
project effectively, all possibly safety concerns must be considered along with
experience to be able to identify less obvious hazards. Although the criteria
Innovators Co. have provided is not accessible without a demonstration, Celestial
Mechanics can produce numerous documents of evidence showing our experience in
situations where safety awareness is vital. As shown in (4.0 Appendix.1, 5.0
Appendix.2, 6.0 Appendix.3, 7.0 Appendix.4), we have members which have
constructed projects requiring various dangerous tools, along with members
completing year 12 standard engineering. This shows our experience in situations
which require vast safety awareness and in our opinion would satisfy your criteria if
assessed appropriately.
15

Celestial Mechanics have not provided any valid information of

working with dangerous tools. In Appendix C, pg-46(7.0 Appendix.4) they
provided some images of tool without valid proof to make innovators
believe they have used these tools. In Appendix C, pg-46(4.0 Appendix.2,
5.0 Appendix.3) also they have not provided sufficient information or
certificate of the instruments they have used in their wood works. In
Appendix C, pg-46(6.0 Appendix.3), the certificate is not related to any
safety awareness.

4.4 Experience
1. Experience in use of tools and resources
Similarly to section 3.2, the experience of safety ties in with the use of tools and
resources. At celestial mechanics we are confident in the experience of each
member to meet the standards of Innovators Co.. As shown in (4.0 Appendix.1, 5.0
Appendix.2, 6.0 Appendix.3, 7.0 Appendix.4), all members stated (on cover page (1))
have been involved in a project requiring tools and resources in order to perform the
construction effectively. This shows our depth of ability to provide outstanding
understanding of tools in multiple different projects. According to the marking criteria
provided, Celestial Mechanics should be allocated full marks. Although all members
experience doesnt showcase the ability of each member, it fits the provided criteria
even though certain members are more competent than others.

Celestial Mechanics have provided great examples of their wood work

in Appendix C, pg-46(4.0 Appendix.1 and 5.0 Appendix.2) but there is no
proof or certificate to proof that its their work and the certificate in
Appendix C, pg-46(6.0 Appendix.3) does not include any previous
experience. Tools of Appendix C, pg-46(7.0 Appendix.4) also does not
have a valid proof.

2. Previous Employment
Almost identically to section 3.3.1 and similarly to section 3.2, Celestial Mechanics
pride ourselves on the consistent experience our team has to offer. Although we as a
company are only university students and lack any employment opportunities without
a proper qualification, we have had quality experience when considering our
particular circumstance. As shown in (4.0 Appendix.1, 5.0 Appendix.2, 6.0
Appendix.3, 7.0 Appendix.4), also stated in 3.3.1, we have all constructed projects to
gain experience in safety, tools and methods involved when approaching a task
similar to the mars rover. When comparing the criteria provided against our
experience, we believe we are an appropriate candidate to fulfil the requirements for
Innovators Co. and therefore receive full marks allocated.
16

Celestial Mechanics has not provided any information about

previous employment and the Appendix provided are not valid enough to
believe that they have enough experience to work with the instrument
used for this project.

4.5 Understanding the Design

We at Celestial Mechanics believe we have a team full of smart, experienced
members which are more than capable of interpreting numerous designs of many
different types. After looking through the design package, we found the design was
easy to understand and found improvements and suggestions which could be made.
This can be thoroughly explained in section 2.0 Design Package Review, in
particularly sections 2.1 and 2.2 which are Understanding the Design and Concerns
and Suggestions respectively. We believe that our understanding of the design is of
the highest standard and deserve full marks allocated in this particular section.

Celestial Mechanic has thoroughly gone through the project and

which they have reviewed in Appendix C, pg-46(section 2.1 and 2.2) and
they have provided some good suggestion which can make the project
more effective. These proves they have clearly understood the design
package.

4.6 Time Management

1. Deadline submission the Design Package
At Celestial Mechanics, we understand the importance of time management when
approaching a new project. Organization allows for a smoothly run project along
which eliminates chances of mistakes and errors which would ultimately ruin the
whole project itself. In order to keep on top of time management, we have recorded
weekly progress reports in past projects to allow for it to run effectively yet efficiently.
This can be shown in 10. Appendix.7. Although the criteria in this section doesnt ask
for this, we believe that the criteria provided is unacceptable. When submitting an
assessment it is assumed to double or triple check all aspects of the work before
submitting and by submitting your work early this disallows the opportunity for final
checks if things are forgotten. Celestial mechanics submitted their design package
shortly before the due date in order to have the best possible results and we believe
this is the right approach to this section.

Celestial Mechanics has provided valid reasons for their late

submission which is alright and in Appendix C, pg-46(10 Appendix.7) they
have provided clear proof of their time management.
17

2. Deadline submission the work assignment in-

group
At celestial mechanics, we have been able to contribute weekly progress reports
each week without hassle. It has always been submitted on time without any
complications near the allocated dead line. Although is not possible to provide
evidence of this until our marks for design package one are released, we can provide
evidence of our weekly progress reports (see 10. Appendix.7). When considering all
this we believe we would receive high marks in this section.

In Appendix C, pg-46(10 Appendix.7) Celestial Mechanics has

provided their weekly progress report in which they mentioned the Hours
Taken and % Completed so these proves their ability of submitting their
group work assignments in time.

4.7 Communication
At celestial mechanics, we understand the importance of communication when
considering planning and managing a project effectively. Throughout our time
together we have displayed excellent communication skills between members and
other companies we have been involved with. As seen in 9.0 Appendix.6 its shows
our ability to communicate professionally as well as quickly whenever it may be
required. It is because of this we believe we deserve the highest of marks in this
section due to our ability to communicate effectively consistently.

In Appendix C, pg-46(9.0 Appendix.6) Celestial Mechanics has

provided clear proof of their communications skill with other companies in
written form which fulfils our requirement.

5.0 Bestech Tender Review

5.1 Review The Design Package
The design package are already reviewed. Innovators Co have an overview of the
whole project. The design package are already reviewed. Innovators Co have an
overview of the whole project.

Design Understanding
This design use the cardboard to make the base and the wheels. Some part use the
wood to strengthening. The six 2.5 cm with the width of each wheel, can be easy to
move and get the kinetic energy from the slope.

Client Brief Compliance

This design is base on the constraints of client brief. Use the Band to fix the bottle
and make the bottle visible. The base and the wheel are all the buffer material will be
suitable for the 1 meter vertical drop. The and the wheel and baseboard are used
thick cardboard. In this case, it will have low possibility for the deformation.

Concerns And Solutions

Their are some question around the car design. Firstly, although the balsa wood is
hard, is also fragile. This kind of wood have high possible break in the further test.
Secondly, the cardboard is a good buffer. However it cannot keep the shape in every
tests. As the results it will not change back when it be compressed.

Bestech has not provided any description of the design package. In

the understanding portion, they have not provided any description about
the design package except the wheels and some details about the
strength of the balsa wood.

Bestech has shown concern for the balsa wood. They have
mentioned balsa wood is hard and fragile which might break. But we are
only using the balsa wood for pillars so the force will be exerted vertically
which minimizes the chance of breaking to almost zero. Their second
concern was about the cardboard, they said it is a good buffer so it might
change it shape. But we are using double sheet to the base and also the
side walls which reduce the chance. We are not saying there is no
possibility but the possibility but it is very low which can be neglected.

5.2 Experience And Abilities

Bestech is a newly-built company, however the contractors are both good at creation.
Ran Li is the contractor of the Bestech. He spend a long time repairing things with his
19

artisan grandfather. So that, he has rich experience

to fix simple machinery, electrical, etc. problems himself. As a result, Ran is good to
do dimensions and cut cardboard.

Bestech has mentioned that they are a newly built company where Ran Li
is the contractor. He has spent a long time preparing things with his artist
grandfather. He is experienced at fixing machinery, electrical, etc problems. All
these explanations are without a valid proof. Nothing relevant is given in the
appendices. In appendices 4.0 a resume is given which has no relation with the
project and any one of these explanations.

6.0 Summary
In summary, Innovations had submitted a good tender review
scoring 80%. They are the first favored company for constructing the Mars
Lander. The second spot goes to Celestial Mechanics but they need to be
more professional when they accept the project. Finally, if neither of the
company is available to construct the Mars Lander then Innovators Co. is
willing to rerun the tender considering Bestech failed to hand over a
decent tender review.

The tools that are required for the construction of the prototype Mars rover are as follows:

3D printer.

8 mm Drill Bit.

Drilling Machine

Screw Driver

Band saw

Box cutter knife.

Hammer.

Scissors.

Pencil

Compass

3.4 Methodology.

Steps:

Step 1: Collect all the required materials as outlined in the materials list.

Each wheel will consist of 6 thinner circular sections that will be glued and stacked together
on top of each other to make up one whole wheel, and taped along the circumference of the
wheel, or wheel sections.

Step 2: Use the pencil, and the compass to mark out a circle of 45 mm radius on the cardboard
sheet, that will then be cut out with an appropriate blade. This will be one of the six sections that
make up each wheel.

Repeat this step 35 times to create the 36 circular sections that will be required for the wheels (6
per each wheel).

Step 3: To assemble each wheel, use the superglue to connect 6 of the circular sections on top
of each other
6

Repeat this step 5 times to create the 6 wheels required for the rover.

Step 4: The flooring of the rovers chassis will be a single rectangular cardboard sheet with
dimensions of 320mm by 150mm, as illustrated in Figure ------. Use the pencil to mark out this
rectangle shape on the sheet of cardboard provided, according to the dimensions described, and
cut it out with the appropriate blade.

Step 5: Use the same process to carve out the rectangular side pieces of the cardboard, which
will be double-layered. Mark out the 4 rectangular pieces of cardboard on the sheet (320mm by
160mm), and cut them out.

Then 2 of the cardboard pieces should be glued on top of each other to form one of the double
layered sides for the chassis. Repeat this for the other side of the chassis with the other two
pieces of cardboard that was also carved out.

Step 6: Draw another 2 identical rectangular sections on the initial cardboard sheet to carve out
(70mm height, 150 mm width). These will be the front and back sections of the car.

Step 7: Use the provided 3-d printer for the construction of the plastic axles. Input the
dimensions of the axles as shown in the diagram, and 3-d print the 3 identical axles.

Step 8: Use a band saw to craft the 2 identical central columns/pillars that will fill the inner
chassis of the car, from the balsa wood, according to the dimensions provided. Then, with the
band saw, craft the front and back support wooden columns, as well as the front and back upper
columns, as illustrated in the diagrams, and dimensions.

Step 9: Use the box cutter to carve out the foam platform (dimensions 320 x 150 x 20 mm) from
the foam material. On the rover, this will be connected above the wooden support columns, and
it is where the bottle will rest.

The previous steps guide through the creation of just the individual parts of the rover. Once these
steps have been completed, the rover itself is to be assembled from these individual parts, as
outlined in the following steps.

Step 10: Equip the drill with an 8mm drill bit, and use it to drill 3 holes in each of the two side
walls, so that the axle can later pass through these holes. The two chassis side walls can be
superimposed or placed symmetrically on top of each other while drilling, so that the wall can
only be drilled 3 times to produce 6 holes, and so that the position of the wholes only needs to be
marked once.

Step 11: The side, front, back, and floor of the chassis should have connected to each other with
glue into a box shape.

7

Step 12: The 4 wooden support columns should be placed inside this box according to what has
been illustrated in the diagrams, leaving the 3 gaps for the axles. The sides of these columns
should be glued to all the cardboard walls of the chassis that meet them. Then the screw driver
should be used to drill screws into the wooden columns through the cardboard sides, from the
outside. At least 2 screws should be used for each side for each column, but their exact
positioning is of little importance.

Step 13: The foam platform (which has the same length and width as the body rover) simply
needs to be glued on top of the wooden support columns. After that, the top wooden walls that
will be surrounding the bottle also need to be glued along to the edges of the rover on top of the
foam platform.

Step 14: The plastic straps that will hold the bottle in place on the foam bed should then be
taped on top of the side wooden walls, going from one side wall, across to the other wall, above
the gap where the water bottle will sit. The water bottle is slid inside from the back of the rover
underneath the straps.

Step 15: Finally, a hole of 8mm diameter is drilled in the centre of each wheel, all 3 axles are slid
inside the axle holes on the chassis, and then all 6 wheels are glued onto each end of the 3
axles, such that there is a 1 cm of distance between a wheel and the chassis of the rover.

almost guarantees a high satisfaction from Innovators Co., and we hope that through
this document, you will find this yourselves.

DESIGN PACKAGE REVIEW

Such as:

1. Having the bottle in exact condition after landing as it was before

2. See if the vehicle is capable of holding the bottle within as it experiences free
fall
3. Whether the vehicle still attains, or continuing its previous movement
capabilities

32

Innovators Co. have designed a Mars Land Rover that will have 6 wheels in
total, with a simple body predominately made from cardboard.
These wheels will be of 45 mm radius, and will have its depth provided by the
repetitive addition of cardboard wheels onto each others.
The walls will be done in a similar fashion, by the addition of cardboard once
to create a double layered wall. The front and back of the rover will be of 70
mm x 150 mm, with the side walls being 320 mm x 150 mm.
The axles will be simply printed by a 3d printer.
The inside of the body will be filled with columns
There will be rubber bands

The tools that are required to build the design are all attained by the team members
of Innovations. The drill (with drill bit), screw driver, band saw, Stanley knife (box
cutter knife), hammer, scissors, pencil and compass, are all tools that are contained
within our personal homes. The 3D printer will be acquired through Curtin University.

Previous Employment

Innovators Co. believes that good work experiences will increase the probability of
successes in their career. Exploring to different job environment helps employees get
a real sense of this industry. Thus, it is essential for team members to have some
relevant experience. Marks will be allocated depending on the number of team
members in the group that have been previously employed. Evidences needed to be
provided to receive the marks for this section.

Figure 6 acts as evidence for Liam being employed for Woolworths for
around 10 months, showing Liams work wear.

REFER TO MICHAEL REFERENCE acts as evidence for Liam being

employed for MCB carpentry solutions, showing a reference if needed to contact.
34

SKILLED AIR IMAGE acts as evidence for Tom being employed for Skilled
Air, showing a reference letter from his employer.

Tarindu was employed by The Salvation Army as a volunteer, with evidence

shown in the Appendix (A2).

Experience

A serious occupational injury or illnesses can affect the lives of the employee. It may
result in a potentially lifelong injury or even death. On the other, people with more
experience parallels to a greater chance of producing a more professional and
accurate prototype for our Mars Rover. This is the reason why we desire some
experience of tools or resources. Marks will be allocated depending on the number of
team members in the group that have relevant experiences. Evidences needed to be
provided to receive the marks for this section.

Experience with interpreting technical drawings

Experience with tools

All members of our company has experience with the use of tools, with some having
quite an in depth knowledge of how to operate them.

We will be capable of using all of the tools that you are requiring from us to construct
the vehicle. These are:

Drilling Machine
Screw Driver
Band saw
Box cutter knife
Hammer
Scissors
Pencil
Compass
3D printer

As previously mentioned, Liam has been employed within Woolworths as a nightfiller.

This role required Liam to work in a team environment, and work under pressure to
ensure that all products are on shelf within an assigned time frame. To load products
on shelf, Liam was required to cut open cardboard boxes to extract the products with
35

a box cutter (Stanley knife). With this experience, Liam will be very efficient and
accurate when having to cut the wheels and walls from cardboard for the design.

Safety awareness

Safety awareness in our company is very important, as all workers should be able to
demonstrate their abilities to work safely and should always use personal protective
equipment while working. Personal protective equipment includes: safety gloves,
safety glasses, steel toe capped shoes etc. The workers should be able to identify
hazards and work out a way to mitigate the risk. Applicants can also

From the previously mentioned employments and experience that Innovations

members have, everyone has developed a keen sense of safety when operating with
familiar, or in the unlikely case, unfamiliar resources.

When overviewing the tools that you require to build the design, we have decided
that the tools that are of highest risk in harming a user is the Box cutting knife and the
drill. Due to this, we have summarised how to appropriately handle these tools.

Box cutting knife:

1. Ensure that the knife is clipped back into the handle when not in use
2. When using, ensure that there is a firm grasp on the handle with the index
finger on top of the handle (opposite side of sharp edge) to direct the cutting.
This will reduce the chance of misusing the knife and harming oneself whilst
cutting the cardboard for the wheels/walls

Drilling machine:
36

1. Always have 2 hands on it for greater stability.

2. Ensure the cable is not going to trip anyone
3. Have nothing loose on you that may get caught in the drill

Working in environments that required machinery or heavy tools, the members have
strong experience with wearing the appropriate PPE. This including:

Wearing Safety boots whenever entering a work area

Wearing safety glasses if any machinery is being in use, or any tool that may
result in something to spark/flick something out. This may be required when
having to use the drill to produce holes in the walls.
Wearing gloves when handling fast moving, sharp machinery

Understanding the design

Understanding the design is the most important step to create an excellent product.
Innovation Co team desires a perfect design. Therefore, our team expects receiving
any criticism that you realize in the design package and your constructive idea for the
package. Below are the marks follow the criteria:

Innovations have summarised our interpretation of your design below:

Having 3 sets of wheels over 2 sets This is to allow for a greater distribution
of force when the rover hits the floor from free falling. This reduces the
chance of the rover deconstructing in the impact. There will be greater depth,
allowing for greater strength and stability. Cardboard is obviously chosen for
its cheap purchase, and the ease of cutting and shaping to the users needs.
Columns inside to allow the bottle to fit more securely, reducing the chance of
the object from falling out
Rubber bands acting as straps to enhance the stability of the bottle.
The axle will be 3-d printed to remove the complications of constructing this
part, and allows for greater time spent on constructing the other parts.

37

Deadline submission the Design package:

This section will be marked depending on the submitted time of design Package at
stage 1 of the applying group. The evidence of the submission will be given by the
screenshot of the submission time of the model.

Our group finds that it is impossible to reply to this tender as it requires knowledge
from after being accepted for the contract.

Communications:

Throughout this, Innovations
have been replying within a day, and sending text messages as soon as events
arisen.

1.0 Introduction
It is with great pleasure to introduce to you our company Celestial Mechanics, who
are pleased and excited with this opportunity to showcase to you our skills and
capabilities as a company. In this document we will provide evidence of our ability
along with our detailed interpretation of the design package you have constructed. To
fulfil your companies requirements we will rigorously answer the tender evaluation
criteria to show that we are the company for you. All writing in italics is writing that
has been extracted from the original design package made by
Innovators Co. with Celestial Mechanics responses generally underneath the italics.

2.0 Design Package Review

2.1 Understanding of the Design

At celestial mechanics, we have had numerous experiences in construction projects
and used various tools such as ones you have stated which can be shown in .
It is because of this background in dealing with various designs and structures that
we strongly believe our available skills excel the standards that your company
requires. This can be showcased further when providing our understanding of your
own design package (see 8.0 Appendix.5).

From investigating the methodology and the design drawings provided in your design
package, we at Celestial Mechanics have been able to understand the reasoning
behind each intricate part and its purpose. For example, for the wheels of the mars
rover you have decided to use cardboard. Although cardboard is thin and flimsy by
itself, by gluing multiple sheets of cardboard together you have created a sturdy, cost
effective wheel which also can provide small amounts of suspension whilst landing
from the 1 metre fall. The choice of six wheels will also provide greater stability
throughout all parts of testing.

The mars rover as presented in the client brief, is required to roll 2 metres on a 30-45
degree slope before falling 1 metre.

Once the mars rover impacts the ground, the passenger water bottle will experience
force insisting to leave the vehicle. The multiple rubber bands running across the top
of the water bottle will provide elasticity on the water bottle and let it move and exert
less force on the rest of the rover. The force of the water bottle trying to escape on
impact will be minimal, which therefore praises the choice of material as it is cost
effective and appropriate to withstand the force.

In a vehicle such as this, one of the most import parts is the axel which provides the
spinning motion of the wheels and therefore causes the rover to roll. To make sure
this part of the vehicle was up to standard you have used 3D printing which shows
your understanding of the importance of this aspect.
50

2.2 Concerns and Solutions

Although the design package you have constructed has been produced at a high
standard, it would be unprofessional of us at Celestial Mechanics to not find certain
aspects that need improvements. After thoroughly looking through your package we
found areas which could have been done differently which could help make it even
better.

Initially from reading your methodology, we found a lack of referencing diagrams. In

the majority of steps you have stated to check the diagrams but have no reference to
which diagram you mean in particular. Each view contains different positions of the
vehicle and without clearly stating where to find the diagram you are referring to it
wastes time and effort when constructing the vehicle.

Furthermore on the diagrams and drawings, although you have constructed views of
the vehicle from different angles and perspectives there is no evidence of seperate
drawings for each part or section of the rover. This is crucial in finding exact
measurements and also gives the constructor a greater understanding without
ambiguity of how it is made. The majority of the drawings also lack depth by using
dotted and dashed lines to differentiate each line and where they are situated in
regard to others. To add to this problem some lines are also very rough in drawing
and could have been made using graph paper or something similar in order to draw
straighter and more accurate lines using the guidelines. Drawings also over lap onto
other information on the page making it look unprofessional and harder to interpret.

The design itself seems feasible and a suitable candidate for its intended purpose.
One point to critic is that the design hasnt allowed for the angled drop that the
vehicle is proposed to perform. Without a counter weight on the back end of the
vehicle, it will land on an angle which creates problems with as safe landing with all
its wheels on the ground so therefore it would be highly suggested to include in your
design. Furthermore, even though the cardboard wheels will provide some give it is
possible that it wont be enough causing the vehicle to bounce on impact and
possible fail its proposed purpose.

3.0 Criteria
We are confident at Celestial Mechanics that we can provide the
appropriate skills and requirements associated with this project and this
can be backed up by answering the tender evaluation criteria you have
provided.

As shown in italics, Innovators Co. has requested a general knowledge test to be

answered to provide evidence of competency in this section of the criteria. Above
highlighted in bold are our answers to the questions provided showcasing our general
knowledge. It is to our belief that according to the marking rubric we would receive
25, the highest mark in this section. This proves our general understanding of the
project is at the highest standard.

3.2 Safety Awareness

52

Safety awareness in our company is very important, as all

workers should be able to demonstrate their abilities to work
safely and should always use personal protective equipment
while working. Personal protective equipment includes: safety
gloves, safety glasses, steel toe capped shoes etc. The workers
should be able to identify hazards and work out a way to
mitigate the risk. Applicants can also outline any previous
experience, which have required minimum safety standards.

Mark Allocation 25 15 5

3.3 Experience
At Celestial Mechanics we have a large amount of experience in the construction of
prototypes and using various amounts of tools to aid us. We believe we competent in
this area.

3.3.1 Experience in use of tools and resources

A serious occupational injury or illnesses can affect the lives of the
employee. It may result in a potentially lifelong injury or even death. On the
other, people with more experience parallels to a greater chance of
producing a more professional and accurate prototype for our Mars Rover.
This is the reason why we desire some experience of tools or resources.
Marks will be allocated depending on the number of team members in the
group that have relevant experiences. Evidences needed to be provided to
receive the marks for this section.
53

Criteria All members in the Half or more than Less than half

Mark Allocation 25 15 5
Similarly to section 3.2, the experience of safety ties in with the use of tools and
resources. At celestial mechanics we are confident in the experience of each member
to meet the standards of Innovators Co..

3.3.2 Previous Employment

Innovators Co. believes that good work experiences will increase
the probability of successes in their career. Exploring to different job
environment helps employees get a real sense of this industry. Thus, it is
essential for team members to have some relevant experience. Marks will
be allocated depending on the number of team members in the group that
have been previously employed. Evidences needed to be provided to
receive the marks for this section.

Criteria All members in the Half or more than Less than half

Mark Allocation 25 15 5

3.4 Understanding the Design

Understanding the design is the most important step to create an
excellent product. Innovation Co team desires a perfect design. Therefore,
54

our team expects receiving any criticism that you realize in the design
package and your constructive idea for the package.
Below are the marks follow the criteria:

We at Celestial Mechanics believe we have a team full of smart, experienced
members which are more than capable of interpreting numerous designs of many
different types. After looking through the design package, we found the design was
easy to understand and found improvements and suggestions which could be made.
This can be thoroughly explained in section 2.0 Design Package Review, in
particularly sections 2.1 and 2.2 which are Understanding the Design and Concerns
and Suggestions respectively. We believe that our understanding of the design is of
the highest standard and deserve full marks allocated in this particular section.

3.5 Time Management

We at Innovators Co require effective time management and

punctuality in project and this demands the constructors commitment to
follow schedule of the project. This expects constructors submitting the
product on time as weekly progress reports, the design package stage one
(Friday, 3pm). It is also preferred that constructors take the responsibility
for their teamwork because Innovator Co appreciates the values of each
member in group. Therefore, we can understand the spirit of responsibility
and the way to organize the work of constructors in the project.

Although Innovators Co. have not provided a marking rubric for this section, we
believe we have the required competency to satisfy you. As stated above in by
themselves, weekly progress reports have been recorded by our company
consistently (see 10. Appendix.7).

3.5.1 Deadline submission the Design Package

This section will be marked depending on the submitted time of
design Package at stage 1 of the applying group. The evidence of the
submission will be given by the screenshot of the submission time of the
moodle.

At Celestial Mechanics, we understand the importance of

time management when approaching a new project.
Organisation allows for a smoothly run project along which
eliminates chances of mistakes and errors which would
ultimately ruin the whole project itself. In order to keep on top of
time management, we have recorded weekly progress reports
in past projects to allow for it to run effectively yet efficiently.
This can be shown in 10. Appendix.7. Although the criteria in
this section doesnt ask for this, we believe that the criteria
provided is unacceptable. When submitting an assessment it is
assumed to double or triple check all aspects of the work before
submitting and by submitting your work early this disallows the
opportunity for final checks if things are forgotten. Celestial
mechanics submitted their design package shortly before the
due date in order to have the best possible results and we
believe this is the right approach to this section.

3.5.2 Deadline submission the work assignment in-group

This section will be marked by the submitted time of the assignment
of each member in the group. The evaluation criteria will be based on the
weekly progress report of the applying group.

Criteria Everyone Over due date Over due date 2 Over due date

At celestial mechanics, we have been able to contribute weekly progress reports
each week without hassle. It has always been submitted on time without any
complications near the allocated dead line. Although is not possible to provide
evidence of this until our marks for design package one are released, we can provide
evidence of our weekly progress reports (see 10. Appendix.7). When considering all
this we believe we would receive high marks in this section.

3.6 Communication
We at Innovators Co. require good communications skills, both oral
and written to contact us. Everything should be well structured and
comprehensible. Emails, texts and calls can be an easy way to contact us
and its better to contact during the working hours (9am-5pm). When any
of our team member makes contact, we appreciate an appropriate and
detailed response. The response is also expected to be made within one
working day, during the working hours. Meetings can also be arranged but
inform us at least two days before the meeting day and be specific about
what you want to discuss. We also prefer to get a weekly progress report
and some feedback on our designs too.

Criteria Excellent Good Fair Communications

Mark Allocation 20 15 5
At celestial mechanics, we understand the importance of communication when
considering planning and managing a project effectively. Throughout our time
together we have displayed excellent communication skills between members and
other companies we have been involved with. As seen in 9.0 Appendix.6 its shows
our ability to communicate professionally as well as quickly whenever it may be
required. It is because of this we believe we deserve the highest of marks in this
section due to our ability to communicate effectively consistently.

1.0 Introduction
This document includes the the tender of Bestech company. In the tender write
about the construction of the design of the the Innovators companys prototype
Mars Lander/Rover. All the information are base on the document Design
Package Final in the Innovators companys wiki.

2.0 Review The Design Package

The design package are already reviewed. Innovators Co have an overview of the
whole project.

2.1 Design Understanding

This design use the cardboard to make the base and the wheels. Some part use
the wood to strengthening. The six 2.5 cm with the width of each wheel, can be easy
to move and get the kinetic energy from the slope.

2.2 Client Brief Compliance

This design is base on the constraints of client brief. Use the Band to fix the bottle and
make the bottle visible. The base and the wheel are all the buffer material will be
suitable for the 1 meter vertical drop. The and the wheel and baseboard are used thick
cardboard. In this case, it will have low possibility for the deformation.

2.3 Concerns And Solutions

Their are some question around the car design. Firstly, although the balsa
wood is hard, is also fragile. This kind of wood have high possible break in the
further test.

Secondly, the cardboard is a good buffer. However it cannot keep the shape
in every tests. As the results it will not change back when it be compressed.

3.0 Criteria
67

The criteria will list as the italics, and the answer will return to the normal
version. Please pay attention on this.

3.1 Experience And Abilities

Step 2: Use the pencil, and the compass to mark out a circle of 45 mm radius on the

cardboard sheet, that will then be cut out with an appropriate blade. This will be one

of the six sections that make up each wheel.

Repeat this step 35 times to create the 36 circular sections that will be required for the

wheels (6 per each wheel).

Step 3: To assemble each wheel, use the superglue to connect 6 of the circular

sections on top of each other

Repeat this step 5 times to create the 6 wheels required for the rover.

Step 4: The flooring of the rovers chassis will be a single rectangular

cardboard sheet

with dimensions of 320mm by 150mm, as illustrated in Figure ------. Use the pencil to

mark out this rectangle shape on the sheet of cardboard provided, according to the

dimensions described, and cut it out with the appropriate blade.

Step 5: Use the same process to carve out the rectangular side pieces of the

cardboard, which will be double-layered. Mark out the 4 rectangular pieces of

cardboard on the sheet (320mm by 160mm), and cut them out.

Then 2 of the cardboard pieces should be glued on top of each other to form one of

the double layered sides for the chassis. Repeat this for the other side of the chassis with
the other two pieces of cardboard that was also carved out.

Bestech is a newly-built company, however the contractors are both

good at creation. Ran Li is the contractor of the Bestech. He spend a long
time repairing things with his artisan grandfather. So that, he has rich
experience to fix simple machinery, electrical, etc. problems himself. As a
result, Ran is good to do dimensions and cut cardboard.
