I am writing to express my interest in your Author Promotions Summer Intern position.

Through researching public relations internships, I was excited to discover that you are
offering a summer internship opportunity with a focus in public relations. After learning
about some of the responsibilities, benefits and challenges that this opportunity will
provide, I believe that my skills and experiences will allow me to be a suitable asset to
your company.

Over the past few years, I have become fascinated with the public relations field through
the courses that I have taken at The University of Maryland. The various classes that I
have enrolled in have given me the opportunity to learn extensively about the field of
public relations as well as provide me with skills needed to excel in this field. Through
my Introduction to Public Relations course I was able to see the different facets that make
up a public relations career and learn the skills that are required to succeed. Through a
course focused on news writing and reporting I was able to sharpen my writing talents
and develop a portfolio that highlights my writing abilities.

I have also recently been elected external philanthropy chair for my sorority, Alpha Xi
Delta. This position has held me responsible for keeping in contact with other chapters on
campus to learn more about their philanthropies as well as the events that they hold to
benefit their causes. I am also responsible for letting over 150 young women in my
chapter know about these philanthropy events as well as keep track of the chapters
attendance at each event. Ultimately, this position has provided me with the leadership
and communication skills that are demanded in any career. Through this experience, I
have learned how to work collaboratively with others and have learned how to balance
the demands of being a full time student and holding a leadership position in an
organization.

I believe that my experiences and background knowledge in public relations, in addition

to the leadership and communication skills I have developed from my position in my
sorority, will prove to benefit me in my internship position at Barnes & Noble. My
passion for the ever-changing field of public relations and my desire to gain hands-on
experience describes why I am seeking acceptance for this position. I look forward to
discussing this opportunity further with you and I appreciate your consideration.
