Unified, Collaborative Architecture

Experion PKS is a unified, collaborative architecture with

state-of-the-art DCS capabilities that encompass Abnormal Situation Management (ASM ), Safety
Management, and Information Management technologies. Experion PKS interfaces with
FOUNDATION* Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, LON, ControlNet and Interbus. Robustness,
security, compliance, control, safety, and reliability are plant-wide, penetrating all layers of the
architecture to provide the only available high-performance, plant-wide infrastructure. Experion PKS
distributed control features include a complete continuous, logic, sequential, and drive object-oriented
control environment hosted on fully redundant controllers.

By unifying the plant-wide architecture, Experion PKS allows you to make the right product at the right
time, optimize and automate, increase workforce effectiveness, and increase availability of resources
while reducing incidents. Rather than taking the narrow instrument-centric approach that informs you
only when there is a need to replace a valve or perform maintenance, Experion PKS establishes a
broad, process-centric view of your plant operations by focusing on the impact to operational
objectives, not only the replacement of devices. This is the key to optimizing performance.
Combining DCS functionality and a plant-wide infrastructure, the Experion PKS unified architecture
provides collaborative production management solutions for Knowledge Management, Asset and
Abnormal Situation Management, Business Process Integration, and Optimization and Automation.

Experion PKS currently offers four families of I/O in a wide variety of densities, each drawing on the
power of the C200 Controller. This specification and technical data sheet provides information on
Chassis I/O Modules Series A. In addition, Rail I/O Modules provide an efficient, compact, and
seamless I/O interface extension to the traditional Series A chassis-mounted I/O. Series-H Rail I/O
feature a galvanic isolation/intrinsic safety (GI/IS) design for mounting and operating in areas with
potentially explosive atmospheres. Series-A Rail I/O modules provide low-cost installation and
mounting flexibility for standard I/O needs. Finally, Honeywells Process Manager I/O provide I/O
redundancy (in addition to the Controller redundancy available with each solution!).

Conformal Coating Corrosion Protection. Corrosion is one

of the leading failure mechanisms of electronic boards in harsh environments. To insure the maximum
possible reliability in corrosive industrial environments, Honeywell provides an optional conformal
coating solution. See Experion PKS System Overview, EP03-100-100, for more information
regarding this option. Conformal coating is highly recommended for any installations for which the
ambient environment meets either Moderate (G2) or Harsh (G3) conditions as defined by ANSI/ISA-
S71.04-1985, Environmental Conditions for Process Measurement and Control Systems: Airborne
Contaminates.

Hardware may be installed in cabinets by Honeywell, interconnected and tested, and then supplied to
the customer, or it may be supplied separately (not installed in cabinets) such that the customer is
responsible for suitable mounting and interconnection/test. Note that in order to comply with applicable
regulations and codes, the controller and I/O racks may have to be located in a room, vault, or
enclosure that is accessible only to qualified persons. Please refer to NEC 110-17, part 1 (1996
National Electrical Code, Copyright 1995 NFPA) or to the appropriate local or national electrical
standards for more information.

Chassis Configuration Services

Model Number Model Description
TC-RCFG01 Chassis Configuration Service, per chassis
TC-RCFG01 is a per-rack configuration service for any size rack. It includes the following:
Installing Power Supply, Controllers, CNIs, RMs, BEMs, IOMs and Terminal Blocks per customers configuration
Loading correct firmware in all Controllers, CNIs, RMs, and IOMs, and setting initial parameters on CNIs
Testing that all Rack components pass power up diagnostics
Without TC-RCFG01, Controllers, IOMs, Terminal Blocks, Power Supplies and other components are shipped in their
original factory containers. Customers are then responsible for making sure all Controllers, RMs, IOMs, CNIs, and
KTC cards have the appropriate firmware and loading if necessary (instructions are included with the system). If a

The SIM uses Field Termination Assembly (FTA) and protocols developed for the APM/HPM product
line (see next two pages). MU-TSIM12, Modbus FTA, supports standard Modbus RTU RS-232 or
RS422/485 communications. MU-TSIA12, Allen-Bradley FTA, supports A-B DF1 serial protocol over
Rs232 only. Note that protocols developed under the PM/APM/HPM Serial Device Interface protocol or
the Smart Transmitter Interface (STI) protocol are not supported.
MU-TSIM12 and MU-TSIA12 use industry standards to support many industrial devices. Contact your
Honeywell representative for support of non-standard protocols.

HART Integration to Experion PKS

Overview and Concepts

The following HART IOMs are key components for Ethernet
HART integration with Experion PKS:
HART AI modules: TC-HAI801 and TK-HAI801
HART AO modules: TC-HAO801and TK-HAO801
Experion
Server
These IOMs possess the following characteristics:
Each module manages up to eight channels of I/O.
Each channel can be configured for HART or Software
standard (non-HART) analog mode. MUX
Channels configured for HART service both the
analog 4-20 mA and HART digital signal.
The AI IOM receives and converts a 4-20 mA analog
signal generated by each field device.
The AO IOM transmits a 4-20 mA control signal to C200
the field device.

The following HART device information is cached in the

IOM and is available to the Experion PKS system for
display, control, logic, and trending:

Device ID information. (Manufacturer, model,

HDW/SWR revisions, message, date, etc.) ControlNet
PV range information (Range Hi/Low)
Device Variables (PV, SV, TV, QV)
Dynamic Variables (using Command 33). AO IOM
only.
Standard device status and condition. HART
Device Specific status and condition (using HART AO
Command-48). AI
This cached data represents the On-Line or control
relevant portion of HART device information. Information
in this category is collected at the highest possible scan 4-20 mA
rate.

A pass-through capability available in the AI and AO IOM

works in conjunction with the Software MUX (Soft-MUX) 4-20 mA
to provide a secondary pathway to the HART device.
The Soft-MUX and the IOM pass-through capability
provide an interface through the Experion Server to HART
third-party configuration tools. This provides access to all Input
HART device information and functions. Device HART

1
The IOLIM is a redundancy compliant device and therefore can be introduced into a controller rack of a
redundant controller configuration. In both redundant and non-redundant applications, the module is deployed
in the controller rack. It is not supported on the Ethernet Supervisory Network.
2
The maximum number of IOPs per I/O Link is highly dependent on I/O Link Bandwidth usage. I/O Link
bandwidth should be calculated using formulas supplied in the planning guide EP-DCXX21
3
The IOLIM counts as one unit against the 64 IOM/CPM calculation. CIOM and Rail I/O can be mixed in any
combination totaling no more than 64 modules. Both redundant and non-redundant IOPs count as one unit.
4
Scanning Cycles are per module allow maximum bandwidth utilization of the I/O Link by only scanning a
module as fast as required.
5
SOE Resolution relates to Events processed by the DISOE IOP (Mx-PDIS12). Events are time coordinated for
all DISOE IOPs residing on the same I/O Link.

Figure 6. Controller with I/O Link Interface to Process Manager I/O

The I/O Link Interface Module (IOLIM), shown above, provides the ability to integrate Process
Manager I/O (PMIO) into the Experion PKS Controller. PMIO provides the Experion PKS system with
highly robust, optionally redundant I/O. The PMIO family has long been regarded as Honeywells
premier I/O offering. This capability, combined with a redundant controller provides a highly available
controller and I/O system with no single point of failure.

A list of supported IOPs is found in the Experion PKS Process Manager I/O Spec & Tech (EP03-900-
100). Most Process Manager IOPs have been integrated into the Experion PKS system. The few
exceptions were not included because superior support for that function is already available through
existing Experion PKS I/O.

Each IOLIM requires an IOLIM Cable. Cables are available in several lengths as shown in the table
below. For in-cabinet applications, the 2M cable should be sufficient. Other cable lengths are used for
cabinet complexing and when a 17 slot Controller chassis is connected outside of the PMIO cabinetry.

A Bracket is required when mounting the Controller Chassis into the PMIO cabinetry. This bracket
and its associated mounting plate are also shown in the table below.

Classic Packaging Options

The Controller with PMIO can be optionally mounted into process cabinetry.
This capability allows for a pre-engineered system that reduces the overall time
for delivery as well as providing a lower cost system than individual purpose built
cabinetry resulting in lower overall project costs.

Pre-engineered cabinetry uses Honeywells field proven cabinetry line. This

provides a consistent cabinetry offering for upgrades as well as new
installations. Cable routing, heat management and mechanical considerations
have all been resolved to allow for the most cost efficient mounting solution.
Since all cabinetry is specifically configured for the particular application, all
usable space is consumed which results in the smallest overall footprint.

The Fieldbus Interface Module (FIM), shown above, features complete integration, high system
capacity and optional redundancy for high availability. Configuration of devices and control strategies
is integrated with C200 Control Builder tools. Each FIM connects to a DIN-rail mounted Remote
Termination Panel (RTP) via a FIM Cable, available in several lengths. An RTP supports two (2) H1
Fieldbus link connections.
FIMs can be placed in all rack locations that support Series A I/O. FIMs do not require presence of the
C200 controller. The FIM may be used in either non-redundant or redundant configurations. A non-
redundant FIM can be located in a C200 or remote I/O chassis and connects to a single Non-
Redundant RTP (see below). Redundant FIM pairs reside in redundant racks following the same
rules as C200 Controller and IO Link Module redundancy (racks must be identical in every way). The
Redundant RTP has two FIM cable connections, and each FIM in the redundant pair connects via a
separate FIM cable.

total number of FIMs required. Licenses must be purchased starting with the first FIM used. Note that
this licensing scheme represents a change from PlantScape R400/R500 implementation.

Rules and Guidelines. The following are some important rules and guidelines regarding the
implementation of Fieldbus Interface Modules.

Quantity of FIMs per chassis is subject to available slots and power. CNI(s) and RMs must be
considered. A remote I/O chassis, for example, will support a CNI, RM and up to 6 FIMs (power limit).
A C200 Controller chassis will support a CNI, C200, RM and up to 4 FIMs (up to two more CNIs could
be added).
Non-redundant FIMs, CNIs, IOLIMs and other I/O modules cannot be placed in any chassis used for
redundancy.
Non-redundant RTPs cannot be used for redundancy. There are important redundancy robustness
features that require the Redundant RTP.
Redundancy is completely transparent to Fieldbus and controller configurations. No additional work
required.
The maximum number of devices per fieldbus H1 link is 16 devices for redundant FIMs, the same as
with non-redundant FIMs. Note this specification is subject to testing.
