An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge

Do you think it's ok to be punished, by death, for something you didn't do? An

Occurrence at Owl Creek Park is the story of Peyton Farquhars death written by Ambrose

Bierce. The narrative takes place in the South during the Civil War. It involves many details that

trick the reader into thinking that Peyton has managed to escape, his death punishment, and make

his way back to his family. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Park short film compares to the

narrative with the theme and they differ with the point of view and the genre.

The narrative and the short film are similar with the theme, they both portray the same

message that the author wanted to originally give with his narrative. Both the narrative and short

film show that Peyton Farquhar is being punished by death, simply because he said something of

messing with the bridge, yet not doing anything to actually damage the bridge. Peytons journey

to get back home to his wife and kids, is displayed and described in both the narrative and short

film, having the same purpose. Though it may seem that both are almost exactly alike, they

contrast with smaller areas.

In the narrative of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, the author uses many point of

views to help the reader understand the purpose of his story. In the beginning the point of view is

objective which makes it seem similar to the short film because it only describes what is

happening externally and what you can understand with the dialogue and the actions occurring.

As the story progresses the point of view changes into the third-person point of view, allowing

the audience to see the emotions and thoughts that Peyton Farquhar is experiencing as he is

waiting for his life to come to an end.

The genre between both differ because one is a short film, and the other is a narrative.

The short film portrays more of the surroundings rather than the emotions that Peyton Farquhar

is feeling, providing a more limited view of the story. Whereas the narrative gives more

description on what Peyton is thinking and feeling as he stares down at the river that could lead

him to his death.

In conclusion the narrative and short film, of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, both

compare in theme but contrast with the genre and the point of view. yeah
