Connector Panels and External Cables in BSC3i and TCSM3i

The balanced CPETS-E and CPETS-F E1/T1 panels and the CPSM
cables needed are included as default in the optional cabling cabinet set.

3.2 BSC3i
On S12 level, depending on the maximum number ET interfaces, the
BSC3i can be used either with or without a cabling cabinet.

3.2.1 Optional cabling cabinet is not used

The S12 first delivery BSC3i 1000 can be used without an optional cabling
cabinet, if the maximum number of external ET interfaces does not exceed
48. In such a case, the ET cabling can be run through the CPETS-E panel
at the BSCC cabinet top. If more than 48 ET interfaces are needed, the
cabling cabinet must be used. In the BSC3i 2000, however, there are two
additional CPETS-E panels at the BSCD cabinet top. The cabling cabinet
is needed in the BSC3i 2000 when the maximum number of ET interfaces
exceeds 144.

The external trunk cable (from the ET panel) and the connector should
meet the requirements of the UL 1459 standard or the National Electrical
Code ANSI/NFPA No.70. The connector should also meet the
requirements of the FCC Part 68

The E1 and T1 trunk cable connector and in configuration is presented in

E1/T1 (PCM) balanced trunk cable panels (CPETS-E and CPETS-F)

3.3 TCSM3i
In S12 deliveries, two installation options of the third-generation
Transcoder are available: the TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option
and the TCSM3i for combined BSC3i/TCSM3i installation option. The
TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option always has a cabling cabinet
mounted to the TCSA cabinet, but the TCSM3i for combined BSC3i/
TCSM3i installation option does not have a cabling cabinet.

3.3.1 TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option

In the TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option, the cabling cabinet is

always mounted to the TCSA cabinet. Balanced cabling panel is default,
whereas the unbalanced is optional and must be ordered separately.

3 CPBP
4 CPETS-F

The CPETS-F panel accommodates 256 x RJ45 connectors for 256 PCMs
(2 Mbit/s or 1.5 Mbit/s). Each connector provides access to one ET (E1 /
T1) interface of the ET16 plug-in unit, so 16 connectors are for one ET16
plug-in unit.

The following Nokia-specified external trunk cable alternatives from

CPETS-F panel are available: CNIS and CNIA.

The cables and connectors should meet the requirements of the UL 1459
standard or the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA No.70. The
connectors should also meet the requirements of the FCC Part 68.

Equipping order

The cabling cabinet is always used with the TCSM3i for stand-alone
installation option. The cabling cabinet and the balanced ET panels are
delivered in an optional cabling cabinet set, because TCSA cabinet is a
base for both TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option and for TCSM3i
for combined BSC3i/TCSM3i installation option. Unbalanced ET panels
(CPETC-F) are available in an optional upgrade set.

Two CPETS-F panels with RJ45 connectors are for 2 Mbit/s E1 and T1
balanced interfaces and feature 512 physical interfaces altogether.

Equipping (maximum configuration of ETSI and ANSI channels) of ETs

proceeds in steps. The equipping order in the cabling cabinet is presented
in the following table.

4.1 Connector panels CPETC-E and CPETC-F with D37

connector packs
The unbalanced trunk cable panels (CPETC-E and CPETC-F) and the
cables needed are an option and are therefore ordered separately as an
optional upgrade set.

The CPETC-E panel accommodates 12 shielded D37 connector packs

and CPETC-F accommodates 64 shielded D37 connector packs, each
with eight (8) coaxial connector inserts.

One ET functional unit requires two connector inserts; one for transmit (Tx)
direction and one for receive (Rx) direction. Since ET16 plug-in unit
includes 16 ET functional units, four connector packs include connectors
for one ET16 plug-in unit. CPSM cables are used for internal cabling of the
ET16 plug-in units to the unbalanced ET panels.

Note that the cable number related connector positions on the rear side of
the unbalanced ET panels are different from those used in the balanced
ET panels.

Cabling of the CPETC-E panels is described in the cabling lists delivered

in the Site Documents binder. The CPETC-E is installed either at the
BSCC cabinet top (one panel) or at the BSCD cabinet top (two panels), or
in the optional cabling cabinet for the BSC3i (three panels).

4.2 BCS3i
On S12 level, depending on the maximum number ET interfaces, the
BSC3i can be used either with or without a cabling cabinet.

4.2.1 Optional cabling cabinet is not used

The S12 first delivery BSC3i 1000 can be used without an optional cabling
cabinet, if the maximum number of external ET interfaces does not exceed
48. In such a case, the ET cabling can be run through the CPETC-E panel
at the BSCC cabinet top. If more than 48 ET interfaces are needed, the
cabling cabinet must be used. In the BSC3i 2000, however, there are two
additional CPETC-E panels at the BSCD cabinet top. The cabling cabinet
is needed in the BSC3i 2000 when the maximum number of ET interfaces
exceeds 144.

The unbalanced (asymmetrical) PCM trunk circuit interfaces are cabled by

using coaxial cable connectors from the CPETC-E or CPETC-F panels.
One recommended alternative is to use Nokia cable type CPRD.

The PCM trunk circuit interfaces are cabled so that one end of a CPRD
cable is connected to the connector panel, and the other end is connected
to the distribution frame. The CPRD cables are provided with the D37
connector assembly mounted. The cables are delivered in various lengths
depending on the operator's needs.

4.3 TCSM3i
In S12 deliveries, two installation options of the third-generation
Transcoder are available: the TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option
and the TCSM3i for combined BSC3i/TCSM3i installation option. The
TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option always has a cabling cabinet
mounted to the TCSA cabinet, but the TCSM3i for combined BSC3i/
TCSM3i installation option does not have a cabling cabinet.

4.3.1 TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option

In the TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option, the cabling cabinet is

always mounted to the TCSA cabinet. Balanced cabling panel is default,
whereas the unbalanced is optional and must be ordered separately.

E1 (PCM) unbalanced trunk cable panel (CPETC-F)

The unbalanced connector panels for the TCSM3i are shown in the
following table.

0 CPETC-F
1 CPBP
2 CPBP
3 CPBP
4 CPETC-F

The CPETC-F accommodates 64 shielded D37 connector packs, each

with eight (8) coaxial connector inserts. One ET requires two connector
inserts; one for transmit (Tx) direction and one for receive (Rx) direction.
One ET16 plug-in unit includes sixteen ETs, and thus four connector
arrangements/packs include connectors for one ET16 plug-in unit.

The unbalanced (asymmetrical) PCM trunk circuit interfaces are cabled by

using coaxial cable connectors from the CPETC-F panels. One
recommended alternative is to use Nokia cable type CPRD.

Equipping order

The cabling cabinet is used with the TCSM3i for stand-alone installation
option. The cabling cabinet and the balanced ET panels are delivered in
an optional cabling cabinet set, because TCSA cabinet is a base for both
TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option and for TCSM3i for combined
BSC3i/TCSM3i installation option. Unbalanced ET panels (CPETC-F) are
available in an optional upgrade set.

(CPRJ45-A and CPRJ45)
The CPRJ45-A and CPRJ45 connector panels provide interfaces for LAN,
LPT/VDU, and synchronisation and alarm interface use.

5.1 Interfaces
In S12 first deliveries and S12 BSC3i 660 to BSC3i 1000 upgrade
deliveries, a new panel, the CPRJ45-A, is introduced. In previous
deliveries and upgrade deliveries, the CPRJ45 is still in use.

Interfaces in CPRJ45-A

In S12 first deliveries and SS12 BSC3i 660 to BSC3i 1000 upgrade
deliveries, a new variant of the CPRJ45 panel, the CPRJ45-A, is
introduced to provide more 1 Gbit/s optical uplink ports. The alarm input
and output connectors are also modified to increase number of alarm
inputs and outputs. The CPRJ45-A panel is located in the middle hole on
top of the equipment cabinet BSCC and it can be installed without the
RACP adapter at the equipment cabinet top.

inputs and outputs for external alarms.

There are, however, some differences between the CPRJ45 and the
CPRJ45-A:

. CPRJ45-A has fewer LPT and RJ45 LAN (10/100/1000Base-T/Tx)

uplinks, but more optical (1000Base-Sx) uplinks.
. CPRJ45-A has a CPEA-compatible alarm interface

External alarm units EXAU-A and EXAU, and their connections

A special lamp panel (External Alarm Unit EXAU-A or EXAU) is employed

for the indication of alarms in BSC3i.

In S12 BSC3i first deliveries, only the EXAU-A is used. In upgrade

deliveries, however, the EXAU can be used as well.

Indicator lights have been connected to six incoming alarms of EXAU-A. In

the EXAU-A, a buzzer that can be connected to any alarm is available.

Using CNDE cable, the EXAU-A can be directly connected to D25-

connector 22 of the CPRJ45-A panel or through the digital distribution
frame (DDF or cross connection) that connects the alarm cables coming
from the network element. When the alarms are routed through the digital
distribution frame (DDF) the CNDE cable is cut and the wires are
connected to the cross connection.

The complete CNDE cable is available in lengths 5, 10, 20 and 50 m. The

maximum distance between the EXAU-A panel and the network element
equipment it is connected to is 200 m (650ft.).

General requirements for external alarm cable CNDE are presented in the

5.3.2 External alarm cabling (EXT AL interfaces at CPRJ45)

The CPRJ45 panel panel accommodates one D25 connector (22) for
external alarm outputs and one D25 connector (29) for voltage and
current-controlled alarm inputs. The CPRJ45 is located in the middle hole
at the cabinet top.

The HWAT-A contains 16 interfaces for outgoing external alarms, 12 of

them are brought to the panel; and 24 interfaces for incoming external
alarms, 10 of them are brought to the panel; and 6 interfaces for incoming
current control alarms, 2 of them are brought to the panel. For more
information, see 5.3.2.1 External alarm output signals - CNDC cable and
5.3.2.1 External alarm input signals alarm cable CYR

If the the capacity of 10 external alarms is not sufficient, additional alarms

can be led directly to the back of the HWAT-A unit. For more information,
see 5.3.3 External alarm cabling (directly to HWAT-A).

The cable and the connector meet the requirements of the UL 1459
standard or the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA No.70 and the
requirements of the FCC Part 68.

External alarm output signals - CNDC cable (CPRJ45)

The External alarm unit (EXAU) is used for indicating six alarms with LED
indicators and/or a buzzer. The EXAU is connected directly to the D25
connector 22 of the CPRJ45 panel using CNDC cable.

If Main distribution frame (MDF) or other cross-connection arrangement is

used, external alarm outputs are first connected from the EXAU to MDF
and then from MDF to CPRJ45 using an appropriate length of CNDC cable
without the D25 connector at the MDF end.

6.2.4 ET2: E1 coaxial trunk interfaces (unbalanced)

The unbalanced (asymmetrical) PCM trunk circuit E1 interfaces are cabled

in ETSI environment using coaxial cable and SMB connectors from the
front connectors of the ETSI ET2 plug-in units.

Multicoaxial cable is recommended, and only the common shield must be

grounded at the grounding element, that is cabling panel with grounding
outlet (CPGO), of the cabinet. The DDF end connectors depend on the
type of DDF used. The coaxial cables are marked using marking rings
provided for cable diameters 3.25 to 4.5 mm so that the cable of the
outgoing transmission direction only is provided with the horizontal co-
ordinate number of the plug-in unit.

6.2.5 X.25 interfaces from BSC3i (AC25-A) to Modem

Note that in S12 first deliveries, analog X.25 interfaces from BSC3i (AC25-
A plug-in unit) to Modem are not in use.

There are several possibilities for making the X.25 connection between the
NetAct (NMS) and BSC3i. The connection used depends on national
standards and on the location of the network elements.

If a packet network is used, connections are made using V.35 or V.24 from
the BSC3i to a modem. In practice, V.35 allows longer cables and fast
transmission.

If the BSC3i and NetAct (NMS) are co-located, X.21 is preferred.

The following table presents the different cables which are used to connect
various X.25 interface cable types. These cables are routed out of the
cabinet through the grounding elements and connected to the interface
cable concerned. The cables must be grounded at the cabinet's grounding
element.

The standard cables delivered with the BSC3i depend on the physical
connection used. The connection is always duplicated for redundancy and
the alternatives are:

. CLRC020 = V.35 cable from AC25-A plug-in unit to environment

through the cabinet's grounding element. Length = 200 cm, 6.6 ft.
.
CLRD020 = V.35 cable from AC25-A plug-in unit to environment
through the cabinet's grounding element. Length = 200 cm, 6.6 ft.
.
CLSC020 = V.24 cable from AC25-A plug-in unit to environment
through the cabinet's grounding element. Length = 200 cm, 6.6 ft.
.
CLTC020 = X.21 cable from AC25-A plug in unit to environment
through the cabinet's grounding element. Length = 200 cm, 6.6 ft.
