DISCOVERY for Non Gen8 WINDOWS OS, using SNMP
Agents
Ensuring the Pre-requisites for Windows OS using SNMP:

2) Ensure the SNMP Service is configured and running as per screen


capture below. Use the Windows OS Program and Feature option to
add the service is not available.

3) Check if the SNMP Agents are installed and running, use SMH or
the OS Services to determine this

4) If the Agents are not installed, please download and install the
relevant HP Insight Management agents for the Server and OS
Version. For example the SNMP agents for DL380 G7 running Win-
2008 R2 is available at here

5) Configure the SNMP CommunityandTrap destinationnameaddress(e.ingthe. hpir
TRAP section as per screen capture below:

6) Configure the SNMP Community name (e.g. andhpirs)Trapdestination
address in the SECURITY section as per screen capture below:

7) Restart the SNMP Service.


8) OPTIONAL - Test the SNMP Connection from the IRS Server using the
SNMP Test tool

Discover the server on IRS Console
1) Discover the Server on the IRS console, select Discovery and click
the Credentials tab
From Selecttheand Configure Protocol drop-downlist, select
Simple Network
Management
Protocol V1 and choose the one with the correct Community string
defined earlier.

2) Expand the IP Addresses section and add the IP address for your
device:
1. Click New.
2. Select the Single Address, Address Range, or Address List
option.
3. Type the IP address(es) of the devices to be discovered.
4. Click Add.

3) Click Start Discovery

4) Verify Discovery and Device Status: To verify the device was


discovered correctly, complete the following steps: In a web browser, log
on to the Insight RS Console. In the
main menu, select Devices and click the Device
Summary tab. Make sure the Status column

contains a success icon

Send a Test event from the Windows Server

1) Login to the SMH (https://Windows-Server:2381) of the windows


server and click on Send Test Trap

2) Verify the event is received on IRS Console (IRS Console

Service Events).

Enclosures using the Agentless option ILO4 (RIBCL
Protocol)
1) Pre-requisites - Ensure the Gen8 ILO4 has valid login credentials. If you
intend to configure the ILO4 credentials and other details remotely in
Bulk, use the The HP Lights- Out Configuration Utility coupled with the
HP iLO 4 Scripting and Command Line Guide, refer http://virtirl.com/?
p=186

3) To configure RIBCL in the Insight RS Console, complete the following


steps:
1 In a web browser, log on to the Insight RS Console.
2 In the main menu, select Discovery and click the Credentials tab.
3 From the Select and Configure Protocol drop-down list,
select iLO Remote Insight Board Command Language
Protocol (RIBCL).
4 Click New. The New Credential dialog box appears.
5 Fill in the required fields. Use the Username and Password of the
iLO 4 web interface on the ProLiant Gen8 server.
6 Click Add.
Note: Add a RIBCL protocol credential for each unique username
and password on your ProLiant Gen8 servers.


4) Registering the ILO4 with IRS Console, launch the ILO4 Interface Remote Support
as per screen capture below. Key in the IP address of the cMS Server and click on
Register

5) Verify the Registration status

5) Verify Discovery and Device Status: To verify the device was


discovered correctly, complete the following steps: In a web browser, log
on to the Insight RS Console. In the
main menu, select Devices and click the Device
Summary tab. Make sure the Status column

contains a success icon

6) Add RIBCL
Credential to the Gen8 Server: Click on the Gen8 Server

Credentials Add Credentials RIBCL, and add the ILO4 Credential
(RIBCL) defined earlier in Step3
7) Send Test Event and verify the status


8) Verify the event is received on IRS Console (IRS Console Service
Events).

DISCOVERY of C7000 Enclosures using SNMP
Ensuring the Pre-requisites for Windows OS using SNMP:

2) Configure SNMP on the Enclosure In the System Information pane,


select the Enable SNMP check box and complete the following
steps:

1. Add system location and contact information.


2. Set Read and Write community strings. (e.g. hpirs) - its case sensitive
3. Click Apply.
6. In the SNMP Alert Destinations pane, complete the following steps:
1. In the Host field, type the IP address of the IRS Hosting Device.
2. In the Community String field, type the SNMP community
string for the Hosting Device.
3. Click Add.

3) Test the SNMP Connection from the CMS Server using the SNMP Test
tool (the SNMP Test tool is available with Robert and also on the CMS
Server).

Discover the Enclosure on the IRS Console


4) Discover the Server on the IRS console, select Discovery and click
the Credentials tab
From Selecttheand Configure Protocol drop-downlist, select
Simple Network
Management
Protocol V1 and choose the one with HPIRS Community string.

5) Expand the IP Addresses section and add the IP address for your
device:
1. Click New.
2. Select the Single Address, Address Range, or Address List
option.
3. Type the IP address(es) of the devices to be discovered.
4. Click Add.

In the log on screen, type your user name and password and click Sign In.

Expand Enclosure Information Enclosure Settings.

4 Click SNMP Settings -> Click Send Test Alert to send a test SNMP trap
to the Hosting Device.


9) Verify the event is received on IRS Console (IRS Console Service
Events).

Discover the server on IRS Console

choose the one with the correct OS Credentials defined earlier.
