7th Grade Social Studies Project: Unit Three Examination in World

History
Between 1492-1848
Step One: In a Group of Four, Choose a Time in History to Examine
Note: You will only have time to deeply examine ONE period or event from
this list!

1. Early 20th-Century Conflicts


o World War I
o The Great Depression
o Totalitarian Governments: Stalins Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, & Fascist Italy
o World War II
o The Holocaust

2. Post-World War II International Developments


o The Division of Western and Eastern Europe after WWII
o The Cold War: Soviet Union, Communist China, Berlin Wall, Korean War,
Vietnam, Bay of Pigs, Cuban Missile Crisis, Arms Race, and Space Race.
o The Middle East: Israel, West Bank and Gaza Strip, & the 9/11 Terrorist Attack
o Africa and Asia: Mahatma Gandhi leads India, Apartheid Ends

Step Two: Plan for a 3D Model that Represents the Time Period/Event You
Chose

The 3D model MUST:


o Be a representation of a city, place, country, or map from that time period
o Include two or more significant buildings
o Include historical figures like soldiers, farmers, peasants or other relevant
persons
o Include appropriate labels for all parts of the model
o Include flags or symbols of the country that show patriotism
o Include appropriate landscapes
o Be neat, clean and well organized.

The 3D model MAY:


o Include transportation elements like airplanes/ships/trains
o Include appropriate examples of era weaponry
o Include re-enactment elements like appropriate costumes (no Nazi or terrorist
costumes will be allowed)

Step Three: Plan for and Create a Character Journal

Write 5 days of a journal as one of the people that lived in that time
period. You MUST:
o Describe what it is like to live in your chosen place
o Discuss elements of government, politics or other significant events
o Write as your own character. Each member of the group must have an 10-day
journal.
o Include relevant information about gender roles of the time.
o Include relevant dates. Certain important dates should be included to
demonstrate your grasp of important historical events.

Step Four: Present Your Project

Prepare as a group to present your work. You MUST:


o Provide a brief oral summary of how your time period/event affected the world
then AND the world today
o Explain how your 3D model represents your time period
o Present two to three of the groups best character journals
You MAY:
o Include appropriate background music for your presentation
o Present a poster board that shows others visually what you will present orally
o Choose to present your project in a novel way: drama, re-enactment, etc.

Project is due May 25th, 2017
