Audience Profiling

Socio-economic Status
Socioeconomic status (SES) is an economic and sociological combined total measure of a
person's work experience and of an individual's or family's economic and social position in
relation to others, based on income, education, and occupation. When analyzing a family's
SES, the household income, earners' education, and occupation are examined, as well as
combined income, whereas for an individual's SES only their own attributes are assessed.
However, SES is more commonly used to depict an economic difference in society as a whole.

Socioeconomic status is typically broken into three levels (high, middle, and low) to describe
the three places a family or an individual may fall into. When placing a family or individual
into one of these categories, any or all of the three variables (income, education, and
occupation) can be assessed.

Due to this game costing a lot of money, it retailed at 44.99. This is a lot of money to pay
for a game therefore people with a lower socio-economic status will probably not be able to
buy/play this game.

Psychographics
Psychographics is the study of personality, values, opinions, attitudes, interests, and
lifestyles. Because this area of research focuses on interests, attitudes, and opinions,
psychographic factors are also called IAO variables. Psychographic studies of individuals or
communities can be valuable in the fields of marketing, demographics, opinion research,
prediction, and social research in general. They can be contrasted with demographic
variables (such as age and gender), behavioral variables (such as usage rate or loyalty), and
organizational demographics variables (sometimes called firmographic variables), such as
industry, number of employees, and functional area.

The sales of this game were made as the company that made it focused on the audience that
had already played the previous games in the series, to do that they focused on making the
game better than its predecessors.
Geo-demographic
Geodemography includes the application of geodemographic classifications for business,
social research and public policy but has a parallel history in academic research seeking to
understand the processes by which settlements (notably, cities) evolve and neighborhoods
are formed. It links the sciences of demography, the study of human population dynamics,
geography, the study of the locational and spatial variation of both physical and human
phenomena on Earth, and also sociology. In short, geodemography is the study of people
based on where they live. Geodemographic systems estimate the most probable
characteristics of people based on the pooled profile of all people living in a small area near
a particular address.

This game was aimed worldwide as it was released in any country that had the same
console released.

Age
Age within audience profiling is a majorly important part as it determines a huge amount of
people and what they may be interested in. Age can be split up into bigger group like
young and elderly. Alternatively it can be separated into specific age groups like 12-18
year olds and 20+ years old. This allows you to find specific likes for different age groups.

The PEGI rating for this game was 18, this was because of the violence and gore present
throughout it. This means that when it comes to age, only people over the age of 18 could
play it.

Gender
Gender within audience profiling is another important part as it shows what kind of
different things both genders seem to like as a collective. Like how much young girls like the
colour pink and young boys like the colour blue.

This game cannot really be aimed at one gender as the whole storyline doesnt portray
anything that would only appeal to one. As there is no gender theme to this game, either
gender could play and enjoy the game.
Sexual Orientation
Sexual orientation is an enduring pattern of romantic or sexual attraction (or a combination
of these) to persons of the opposite sex or gender, the same sex or gender, or to both sexes or
more than one gender. These attractions are generally subsumed under heterosexuality,
homosexuality, and bisexuality, while asexuality (the lack of sexual attraction to others) is
sometimes identified as the fourth category. To use sexuality as an audience profile could be
to look at maybe the different kind of fashions and styles that people within that category
enjoy and work out a medium.

This type of audience profile does not apply to this game as there is nothing that appeal to a
specific sexual preference, what I can take from this is anyone could play and enjoy this
game.

Regional Identity
Regional identity is based on geographical area but can be quite broad (someone could be
from the North or the South of England) or more specific (they could be Glaswegian or
Cornish).

Representations of national and regional identity often focus on certain stereotypical


characteristics and customs associated with the nation or region. For example, that the
French are romantic, Italians are the best cooks or the Irish are friendly.

There are no stereotypes throughout the game I am analysing as people could find it
offensive.

Mainstream
Mainstream means what is the norm of that particular time, so by looking at whatever is
popular/ becoming a trend at that particular time then you can discover an audience from
that. Mainstream media (MSM) is a term and abbreviation used to refer collectively to the
various large mass news media that influence a large number of people, and both reflect
and shape prevailing currents of thought. The term is used to contrast with alternative
media which may contain content with more dissenting thought as they do not reflect
prevailing opinion. At the time of release, this game was hyped up a lot because of
advertisement so that sales were good on the game.
Alternative
Alternative is anything other than mainstream. There is no actual definition of alternative
as it is constantly changing but looking at the alternative audience would allow me to work
out another audience. Alternative media are media that differ from established or dominant
types of media in terms of their content, production, or distribution. Alternative media take
many forms including print, audio, video, Internet and street art. This doesnt apply to this
game as it was more in mainstream media.

Niche
The Niche market is a way to possibly earn a lot more money as a niche market is very
small group that has high opinions of a very particular thing. This means that if a company
was to aim a product at a niche market they may not get many sales as a niche market is a
very small group but they will be able to charge quite a lot of money for the product as there
arent that many of them. This sort of applies to my game as it advertises to the worldwide
mainstream audience but also advertises to the niche market that is those who have
already played the games before it.
