There are factors to consider in the design of the device.

The placement of the components, its

size and position and purpose.

The elevation of the device is designed 3 feet (36 in.) above the ground aligned to the

monitoring well pipe opening so that the water suction will be easier for the device.

Water pump is mounted at the top segment of the device to be able for the water in the

pipe to flow down normally into the 100mL glass cylinder.

A 100mL glass cylinder is connected to the pipe that is used for the water sample

following the Department of Health National Drinking Water Standard in the Philippines. The

device is programmed so that once the glass cylinder accumulated a 100mL water sample, it will

stop the water suction operation.

Another pipe is connected at the bottom part of the glass cylinder leading the water to

flow to a Flow Cell. Flow Cell is a very thin tube that water cannot enter normally for sampling.

A water pump is connected below the pipe to have a necessary force needed for the water to

enter the flow cell's small opening.

The connected water pump will only operate once the previous water pump stop its

operation and is the only one responsible to discharge the water.

The Flow Cell is designed tilted 45 degrees from the vertical connected to a pipe so that

the UV LED and the Photodiode will be complementary with each other performing the best

accuracy.
UV LED emitting UVC is placed 0.02m (0.7 in) close above the Flow Cell to be able for

the present E. coli to be exposed fully with the UV light, the closer the UV LED the better the

detection.

The Photodiode facing the flow cell and in 90 degrees with the UV LED will be the

responsible in capturing the desired wavelength for the E. coli count then sending the

information to the Arduino.

The Arduino with GSM Module is placed near the position of the antenna so that less

wires will be used.
