1. Why are child day care centers in North Carolina required to be licensed?
To ensure the safety and developmental well-being of children while in out-of-home care.

The division of child development and early education and the DHHS.

No it can not be transferred from one owner to another or from one location to another.

6. When is a temporary license issued? How long is this type of license in effect?
It maybe issued to the operator of a new center or to the operator of a previously licensed
center when a change of ownership or location occurs. This type of license is only effective for 6
months.
7. When is a provisional license issued? How long is this type of license in effect?
It is issued when a child care provider fails to meet minimum licensing requirements only
effective for up to 1 year.

8. When is a special provisional license issued? What must be posted with this license?
When it is determined that child abuse or neglect has occurred in the center. The reasons for
issuance should be posted with the license.

9. When is a probationary license issued? How long is this type of license in effect?
When it is determined that a violation of the child care law or rules has been willful, continual, or
hazardous to the health and safety of children. It is in effect for up to 1 year.

10. On what three types of criteria are rated licenses issued? When are rated licenses
issued? Based on program standards and education levels of staff. Issued when the end of the
temporary license period.

11. How do centers earn a One Star Rated License? What is the minimum compliance
score? They earn it when the child care facility meets standards established in child care laws
and rules . The minimum score is 75% over an 18 month period.

12. How do centers earn Higher Level Rated Licenses? How is the number of stars figured?
After the center has been in operation for 6 consecutive months. They are figured by checking
the centers compliance history.
13. What is a centers compliance history? How does it affect their license?
What is the minimum compliance score? They earn it when the child care facility meets
standards established in child care laws and rules . The minimum score is 75% over an 18
month period.

14. What is meant by building codes? What kind of inspection is required for this?
The rules are the rules of the rules of the building. A building inspection is required for this.

15. What is meant by fire codes? What kind of inspection is required for this?
A fire inspection is required for this. The fire codes are the rules to make sure there is enough
exits for fire drills.

16. What is meant by sanitation codes? What kind of inspection is required for this?
Sanitation inspections is required for this. Sanitation codes are rules to follow to make sure
things are cleaned.
