Healthcare Research Project

Tara Payne

Objectives:
To collect information pertaining to my survey, regarding my subject of healthy lifestyles and healthy choices, then use that

information to extrapolate correlations and comparisons in the local demographic (respondents).

Who: My demographic is people that live in my local area

What: My survey was tailored around healthy lifestyles, exercise habits, availability of HC insurances and vitamin

consumption.

When: The information was collected over a few weeks time.

Where: The information was collected online and in person.

How: I collected data through SurveyMonkey.com and in person responses

Sample population:

The sample population was average Americans in the nearby area, Oregonians in Marion and Polk counties. I wanted to target as

many people as possible from all different local demographics.

Variable rationale:

I wanted to pick questions that could be correlated and compared. My intent was to pick questions that could cover a wide range

of lifestyle choices, but also be specific and easy to graph and analyze. I needed to have the correct kind of variable to compare

like yes/no answers and have this information interpreted in a way the user can understand easily.

Data collection:

I collected the data on a survey questionnaire sheet at SurveyMonkey.com. I shared the link with my target demographic and

information will be retrieved, numerated and put into an Excel spreadsheet. That data I am collecting should lead me to answer

or find correlations for my survey on lifestyle choices. After collecting enough surveys on SuveyMonkey.com, I had entered the

information from every single response into Excel. It could have been uploaded instantly but there was an upgraded fee for that

service so I did it manually (raw data at end of project write up).

Survey tool:

The tool used to collect the data was SurveyMonkey.com. I asked 10 questions. All were meant to give a well-rounded

view of the types of lifestyle and demographics of my respondents. I asked the questions in a survey/questionnaire

type format. The 10 questions my survey included were: 1) Gender 2) Age 3) Yearly income 4) Use of nicotine or

tobacco 5) Health insurance coverage 6) Number of yearly doctors visits 7) Amount of exercise 8) Diet 9) Vitamin

consumption 10) Overall health.

Time line:

I immediately started thinking about what the topic I would find information on during the first week of the term. Then I started

formulating questions to ask and how they would be given to the user. The 3-5 th weeks of the term Ive collected the survey

information. The 6-10th weeks I will make graphs, analyze and decipher the information, and draft a written report on my

findings.

Special considerations:

I am having a problem getting people to take the survey. It was something I was concerned with from the beginning so I made

sure to leave an ample amount of time to collect enough data.
