What is
Anxiety?
a feeling of worry, nervousness, or

unease, typically about an imminent

event or something with an uncertain

How does a person get
Anxiety?

- Anxiety may be caused by a mental condition, a physical condition, the effects of drugs, or a
combination of these.

- In addition to anxiety, dizziness, and shortness of breath. These same symptoms also can be
caused by coffee, amphetamines, an overactive thyroid, abnormal heart rhythms, and other heart
abnormalities
- Stress from a serious medical illness
- Stress from school
- it is becoming clear that many of these disorders are caused by a combination of factors,
including changes in the brain and environmental stress.
Symptoms
Feelings of panic, fear, and uneasiness

Problems sleeping

Cold or sweaty hands or feet

Shortness of breath

Heart palpitations

Not being able to be still and calm

Dry mouth

Yes, everyone has a certain amount of stress in our life from our school work, to jobs, to
family and life responsibilities

It can be spread like a bad germ

not all stress can be avoided but you can isolate yourself from being affected by another
persons stress
How can anxiety be treated
and/or cured? Is it fatal

Yes it can be treated

with either medications or psychological


counseling

Often treatments will consist of a combination of


psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, and
medications

- Statistically, women are more commonly afflicted by anxiety disorders than men

- Those who suffer from anxiety are prone to suffering from depression simultaneously

- Laughing lowers stress hormones (like cortisol, epinephrine, and adrenaline) and strengthens the immune
system by releasing health-enhancing hormones

-the top most stressful jobs are a surgeon, commercial airline pilot, photojournalist, advertising account
executive, and real estate agent. The least stressful jobs were actuary, dietitian, astronomer, systems
analyst, and software engineer

- Stress can make acne worse. Researchers say stress-related inflammation rather than a rise is sebum (the
oily substance in skin) is to blame
