Is Donald Trump As Bad As We Think?

Over time, American citizens have tried to predict the future. Predictions have been made

by people, which have included very preposterous prophecies, including the world ending in the

year 2012. On December 22nd at 12:01, people were flabbergasted when they looked around

them and all of their friends and family were still alive. This goes to show that although some

may seem very reliable and persuasive, predictions are not always correct. Predictions were

made about the 2016 presidential election, with Hillary Clinton being the candidate that was

forecasted to be the victor of the election. When Donald Trump had surprisingly won, everyone

was shocked. A massive amount of voters have had very pessimistic views about Donald Trump,

who hasnt been in office yet and wont be until January 2017. Citizens have not been able to see

what our soon to be president has in store when he comes into office, which does not give us the

right to be one-sided about how we feel Trump will do. Although some might not particularly

like the ideas that come from the mouth of Donald Trump, we should not start to discriminate on

what he believes is best for America until everyone has the chance to see how Donald Trump

does in office.

Despite what the vast majority of individuals are professing, Donald Trump could get

more done than what most of American citizens are saying he could do. In the article Trumps

Economic Prescription. First: Do Harm., the author, Steve Rattner, believes that more can

happen than what we expect: Donald J. Trump is positioned to achieve the most radical

reshaping of economic policy since Ronald Reagan. Even under Reagan, Republicans never

controlled both houses of Congress.(Rattner, 2016). This allows for a very good flow between

the Houses of Congress, which means that more will be able to be passed at a much faster rate

than it is at now. Since there are mostly Republicans controlling both the Senate and the House

of Representatives, something is bound to happen, whether it is good or bad. To some, not a lot

has happened in office for the past few years. With our new soon to be president, new laws

should be able to be passed without arguments between Democrats and Republicans in the

Houses of Congress.

The American people need to know as a whole that Donald Trump does not have as much

power as everyone thinks. Although the president can approve or veto a law, it takes the approval

of all of the other branches for a law to be passed. This is the system of checks and balances: you

cannot pass a law without the other branches approving of it as well. Donald Trump might want

to pass a certain law, but it has to go through the other branches before it can be approved. I can

see where some might believe that it would be quite frightening if Donald Trump was passing

and vetoing laws by himself, but because there are others that will be there to show and guide

this man in leading our country, we should not be afraid. The Senate and House of

Representatives are a huge part of making laws more sensible and not allowing every law to be

passed, no matter how ridiculous it is.

The citizens are very fearful of what might happen next, which is understandable. In the

article Being American in the Trump Years, the author clearly shows that they believe that this

will be one of the biggest downfalls in American history. There is a planet to save. The earth is

in peril from a changing climate no matter how many deniers say otherwise.(Being American

2016). Citizens believe that because we have a new person in office, the end of the world is near.

Drastic changes are being made, which does not correlate with what the people of America want

for this country. A lot of the population loves to stay in their own bubble, with nothing changing.

The same day is on repeat, and certain people get flustered when their routine is tweaked. With a

new individual in office, America believes that everything will change instantly, and their lives

will never be a comfortable routine like it was before. Because of this individuals are

overreacting. America needs to know that there is a bright side to this election. This is a new,

clean and fresh start for the United States. Let our selected candidate try being in office for a

little while before everyone says that Donald Trump is not fit to be president. Everyone should

be given some sort of a chance without others predicting how it will end up.

This presidential election has been scary, to say the least. The inexperienced candidate

that had won was the person that everyone had believed to have the smallest chance of becoming

our next president. The person that had no experience in politics in his entire life, and lived as a

billion dollar business owner. He does not know the hardships that the poor have to go through,

and has only ever been someone of the highest class on the social pyramid. The individual that

no one had believed in had been the underdog of the election. As stated in the article

Arrogance by Seamus McGraw, Late last night, as I watched Pennsylvania turn red for the

first time in a generation, I kept thinking back to that man, and how I so misread his expression

and his words. It wasnt sorrow etched in his face. It was pity. For me. Because he knew, long

before I did, how wrong I was.(McGraw, 2016). Out of all of the candidates, no one thought

that this man would have won. Although Donald Trump was not the predicted winner, this gives

the United States a reason to start fresh and try new things. If predictions are not always right,

then why should people believe that the worst will happen? Give Donald Trump a chance to

show you his worth, and you might be surprised with how things turn out.
