1. Why are engineer considered an important segment of the society?

Almost everything that you used every day has either been designed by an engineer, or built
using machines or tools designed by engineers.
The study of Engineering is the study of how to design things while always considering safety,
usefullness, aesthetics, profitability and reliability.

2. What are expected of engineers in general?

Engineers are expected to perform a variety of tasks depending on their specialization and job
level. It is important to the engineer that he/she knows what is expected of him so that he/she
may be able to perform his job effectively and efficiently.

Engineering outputs needed in the following concerns :The production of more food for a fast
growing world population,The elimination of air and water pollution, Solid waste disposal and
materials recycling, Supplying the increasing demand for energy.

Engineers currently involved in areas such as Research, Design and development, Testing,
Manufacturing, Construction,Consulting, Government, and management.

3 organizations, level one those with minimal engineering jobs like retailing firms. level two-
those with a moderate degree of engineering jobs like transportation companies and the level 3 -
those with a high degree of engineering jobs like construction firms.

7. What is engineering management?

Engineering management refers to the activity combining technical knowledge with the
ability to organize and coordinate worker power, materials, machinery, and money.

8. How may one define management?

Management may be defined as the creative problem solving-process of planning, organizing,


leading, and controlling an organizations resources to achieve its mission and objectives.

9. What qualifications must an engineer manager have?

A bachelors degree in engineering from reputable school; in some cases, a masters degree
in engineering or business management is required;A few years experience in a engineering job;
Training in supervision; Special training in engineering management.

Leadership is expected of any manager in charge of any unit or division. One cannot expect aunit
or division to achieve objectives in the absence of effective leadership.

When a person has sufficient personal magnetism that leads people to follow his
directives.Charisma will help the leader in achieving his goals.

6.What is meant by human skills? How may these skills help the leader?

This skills refer to the ability of a leader to deal with people, both inside and outside the
organization.

7.How is positive leadership different from negative leadership?

When the leaders approach emphasizes rewards it is positive leadership. When punishment
is emphasized by the leader it is a negative leadership.

Free-rein leaders are those who set objectives and allow employees or subordinates relative
freedom to do whatever it takes to accomplish these objectives. It is more applicable to certain
organizations manned by professionals.

Change the leaders trait or behaviors, select leaders who have traits or behaviors fitting the
situation, move leaders around in the organization until they are in positions that fit them,
change the situation.

Clarifying the subordinates perception of work goals, linking meaningful rewards with goal
attainment and explaining how goals and desired rewards can be achieved.
