What is a PCB ?
PCB stands for Printed Circuit Board.
PCB is a circuit fabrication method in which the
circuit components are placed on an etched copper
board.
PCB has many advantages over breadboard/vero
board design.
More robust design.
Less probability of loose connection.
High reliability
Thin chances of wrong connection.
PCB design is final and alteration is not easy.

Software for PCB design
Various software are available commercially for
PCB design. Famous software are
LTSIPCE
ORCAD
DIPTRACE
PROTEUS
Some of these software are commercial and some
are freeware.
DIPTRACE offers a student version which is free to
download in 32bit and 64 bit format.

Design flowchart
Design a circuit on paper
Identify the positions of input and output terminals.
Identify the packaging information of the
components.
Specify the input terminals.
If the particular packaging is not available in the
library design it using the mechanical dimensions
provided.
Specify the number of layers.
Group the circuit and invert it.
Print it on the paper.

Example 1: Gate driver circuit
To design a gate driver circuit PCB.
The gate driver is a special circuit that is usually
based on semiconductor chips to operate the
transistors (BJT,MOSFET,IGBT etc) at high
frequency.
A gate driver circuit consists of two stages.
Optoisolation stage
Gate driver IC
Gate driver IC is not connected directly to the
microcontroller.

Example 1 : Gate Driver Circuit
The IC TC4424 requires a 15V power supply to
work.
Using only one input for both the IC, the
arrangement can be made using 7815 IC.
