GUIDE LINE FOR SETTING DCD414B RELAY

A. LOAD SERVICE SETTING

POL SETTING

1. Choose Tap 1.2 * max. load to be supplied or current rating of cable/transformer.

2. Calculate time multiplier settings by

Select tm to Co-ordinate with remote end faults. Ensure that it takes more than 0.5 sec
for the maximum transformer inrush current.
3. Low Set: Set to take care of high resistance faults; hence set p.u. to approx. 1.2 * cable
capacity.
Time Delay 1.5 sec. Also calculate the time required for IDMT.
4. H-Set 1: This is set to cover HT faults at the farthest consumer with small time delay to
permit Inst. element at consumer s/s to operate. But it should not trip for LT
faults by this hi-set element.
Set to 1.3 *(HT current for LT faults) or 50 % of the farthest end fault current
whichever is lower. Also, confirm that it will not trip for transformer inrush
currents.
Time Delay 0.2 sec.
5. Hi-set 2: To be set to trip instantaneously for faults upto 70% of O/H line or cable portion
up to nearest consumer.
Set to 1.3 * (First Consumer end HT fault current). Ensure that it will not
operate for transformer inrush.
Time Delay 0.02 sec.
E/F Setting

1. Choose Tap 50 % of POL Tap.

2. Calculate time multiplier settings by formula

Select tm to Co-ordinate with remote end faults. Ensure that it takes more than 0.5 sec
for 50% of the maximum inrush currents.
3. Low set: Same as for POL
Time Delay 0.4 sec. Also calculate the time reqd. for IDMT.

4. Hi-set 1 : Since most of our Transformers are of Delta/Star type, 1 (ground) faults on
the LT side is not seen by the E/F relay on the HT side.
Hence set to 50% of farthest consumer end HT fault current.
Time Delay 0.20 sec.
5. Hi-set 2: Same as for POL 1 ground faults.
Set to 1.3 * (nearest Consumer end HT fault current).
Time Delay: 0.02 sec.
This stage can be used to initiate Auto Reclosure.

TEST CHARGING SETTING

This can be achieved using breaker 52b contact (to initiate second set of parameter group setting).

POL:
1. IDMT tap. (Same as Load Service tap).
Choose time multiplier such a way that the relay should take 0.7 sec. to trip for Max
Inrush current.
2. Low Set P.U. same as load service setting .Time delay 1 sec( to over ride inrush )
3. Hi set 1
Same as load service setting with a time delay of 0.02 sec
4. Hi-set 2
Should be greater than Inrush and less than fault current
Set to 1.3 * (Inrush Current or LT fault Current whichever is higher).
Time Delay: 0.02 sec.
E/F:
1. IDMT tap. (Same as Load Service tap).
Choose time multiplier such a way that the relay should take 0.5 sec. to trip for Inrush
current.
2. Low Set same as load service setting.
3. Hi set 1 1.3 * (50 % of Inrush Current) with a time delay of 0.02 sec.
4. Hi set 2: Off, so that A/R does not initiate during charging.

OUTPUT CONFIGURATION
RL1: Gn Protection fail
RL2: Trip Group 1 selected.
RL3: Trip ckt faulty.
RL4: Alarm for Hi-set 2 E/F operated.
RL5: Alarm for Hi-set 2 P/F operated.
RL6: To initiate Auto Reclose Relay (By Hi set 2 E/F only).
RL7: To Breaker Trip (Triggered by P/F, E/F-IDMT, Low set, Hi set 1, Hi set 2)
RL8: Red Lamp for Trip Supervision Lost.
RL9: LED Near Group Selector Switch
RL10, 11: Spare

Note: Above configuration for second set of parameter group can be different for Test charging (A/R
inoperative, Hi-set I inoperative etc.).

Min. output contact energising time = 0.2 Sec.

DATA STORAGE MENU

Waveform trigger and fault trigger should be triggered by RL2, RL3, RL4, RL5, RL6, RL7
Prefault trigger should be 90% and post-fault trigger should be 10 %.

STATUS INPUT

S1 - For Settings Group Selection: with P/U Time Delay of 0.3 Sec and D/O Time Delay of 5.0 Secs.
