Compression
Compressing and uncompressing files (zip files) Compressed files take up less storage space
and can be transferred to other computers more quickly than uncompressed files. You can
work with compressed files and folders in the same way that you work with uncompressed
files and folders. I could do this to my files because video files are normally very large and
need to be compress in order for the programs to work efficiently. There is a program called
WinRAR which is a compression software tool which allows you to have large files then
compress them into files sizes from GB to MB or even KB. I may use this software to
compress my files because my videos will be large files and it might be difficult exporting
large files in different programs.
Lossless
Few lossless video formats are in common consumer use, as they would result in video files
taking up a huge amount of space. Common formats like H.264, MKV, and WMV are all
lossy. H.264 can provide smaller files with higher qualities than previous generations of
video codecs because it has a smarter algorithm thats better at choosing the data to
throw out.
Lossless compression is a class of data compression algorithms that allows the original data
to be perfectly reconstructed from the compressed data. By contrast, lossy compression
permits reconstruction only of an approximation of the original data, though this usually
improves compression rates (and therefore reduces file sizes).
Lossless data compression is used in many applications. For example, it is used in the ZIP file
format. It is also often used as a component within lossy data compression technologies.
Depending on what compression method you use if it is lossless this means you will not lose
the quality of the video you had prefer, all it does it compress the video file to a smaller size
and wont effect the quality.
Lossy
Refers to data compression techniques in which some amount of data is lost. Lossy
compression technologies attempt to eliminate redundant or unnecessary information.
Most video compression technologies, such as MPEG, use a lossy technique. We use
compression to make files smaller, allowing them to download faster and take up less
storage space.
If were just uploading these files to a social network or placing them on a website, we dont
want these image files to take up so much space. A raw video could take up hundreds of
megabytes of space. RAW formats may be used by professional video editors to keep image
quality high during the editing process, but theyre not intended for the average person.
After compressing the video as lossy you cant get the original file back so youre stuck with
the lossy compression so this means you cannot compress programs and software's because
it could damage the program and you cant redo the method.
Famous lossy codecs include MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 (AKA DivX3.11, DivX4/5, XviD,
QuickTime MPEG4), DV (and its variants DVCAM, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, Digital-S, etc.),
Windows Media Video, Real Video, Sorenson, Index, and the classic Cinepak. If a video has
been compressed in lossy it will change the video quality and could make it less quality as
the original version.
Deadline
The deadlines are very important to this assignment because the client has a strict date
when the whole unit is finished so I make sure that I meet the deadline for the
assignment. I feel that all my graphics were fit for purpose and I did what the client asked
me to do and I feel that I did my best. Also I did stick to the plan and produced these
graphics to professional standards. I feel I did this when I look at what I have created and
compare it to my ILP. My ILP tracks my every move throughout this assignment and I found
that throughout the whole assignment I was working on the section that I should have been
and also met the deadlines. I also made sure that my diary was kept up to date by allowing
evidence with screenshots and every time I did something knew I would make sure I provide
evidence and state how I did it. Each unit so far I have successfully completed and met the
deadline so I am very confident I will do the same for this assignment.
For this assignment I think that we didnt have enough time however I took time out of my
spare time to try and meet the deadline. I have created a timeline in Visio which shows the
different stages of work I need to do so I will go off that to ensure I meet the deadline.
When doing this assignment, it was important that my workflow was correct and that the
work I was doing was following the ILP which was used to help my workflow because each
day there was a part of the work that needed to be finished and then after the day I typed
what I did that day so when I went back I can see what I did the previous lesson. I made sure
I didnt take as much time on my work because I wanted to ensure that I wasnt going to fall
behind in any work so I managed my time well. I did this by looking at how much time I had
and did the most important parts of the work first such as the graphics.
I also did milestones that helped me manage my time and ensure that I had someone
checking my work for quality purposes. When creating the graphics it took longer than
expected so I took time at home to finish them off so I could start the next work.
Legal and Ethical
Copyright law originated in the United Kingdom from a concept of common law; the Statute
of Anne 1709. It became statutory with the passing of the Copyright Act 1911. The current
act is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The laws were implemented to make
sure people who created some kind of work and prevent people from stealing your work to
benefit themselves.
Before this law was an act people could copy someones work and claim that the work was
from them. This was a big problem to companys so they decided to have this act mainly on
the web due to it is open to the world and it is easier to steal work from the web such as
images, videos and music. These assets are included in my product so this is why I need to
consider where I get my assets from. The copyright law protects the IT industry because
mainly copyrighting takes place on the web.
Assets
Videos are popular target for copyright. Videos online such as YouTube are sometimes
copyrighted so no one can use their video for beneficial purposes. The person who creates a
video (the creator), such as somebody who records the video, will generally be the owner
of the original copyright. However, if it was created as part of the creators job, the
employer will generally own the copyright. Videos on the internet may have the copyrighted
symbol in front of the image to prevent anyone using it however some videos dont. The
copyright symbol does not have to be present for copyright to exist, so just because there is
no name or copyright symbol associated with a photo or video does not mean the copyright
has expired. If you want to gain permission to use the video you will need to contact the
owner who is the creator of the video and sort an agreement. Most of the time the
agreement is through paying for the video however you may not have to pay. They might
ask you to instead of gaining full copyright of the video you could just get permission to use
it. This is the same with other assets such as images
Software can be a copyright problem too. If you buy a software package legally which allows
you to use the software for yourself this means that you do not own that software. The
software company allows you to use it but only for yourself so you cannot claim the product
to be yours or illegally transfer the software to someone else. Also some websites offer
instructions on softwares which are required to be bought. These websites provide crack
codes to allow users all over the world to use the software for free and this is illegal. Each
software usually contains a license to that individual computer. If the software is on a disk
therefore it can only be used for one computer machine. However, people burn the
software onto another disk and give the software to another person. This is illegal and
would need to buy another license in order to use it again. This law is the same with schools
where each computer must have a different license.
In order I do not break any laws or offend anyone I need to make sure I do not get all my
images from a copyrighted source and I do not copy anyones work without permission. If I
want an image or video I need to contact the owner and ask them for permission before
using it in my product.
Ethical
When creating a multimedia product you need to ensure that you make the assets included
in the product suitable for the target audience. For example if the target audience were kids
you will need to ensure that anything you put in the product that wont offend the users.
Also this protects such as racist comments which will offend people and affect the product.
This will always be breaking the law and could cause a lot of problems. People may be most
likely to break the law on the internet because people may think that theyre anonymous.
But you can be tracked and found so everything needs to be considered before publishing to
the world. There is rules that can help you to avoid is.
- You arent allowed to use a picture, video or sound unless the person who has full
control of the assets give you permission to use them.
- You cant make a written statement of someone which could offend them and any
abusive language which could affect their reputation.
- You arent allowed to use anyones piece of work without permission (copyright law)
- You have to be careful that you dont offend someone this goes by
- Race
- Gender (female and male)
- Sexuality (homosexual and heterosexual)
- Disability
- Nationality
- Class ( higher class or lower class)
- Age ( adults and children)
The race relations act is a legislation that makes sure we respect that discrimination on any
racial grounds is wrong.
They need to make sure that they don't discriminate against any type of race or religion.
Radio needs to be very careful about the people they hire as most programs will be live and
if any racial accusations are caused they have no way of stopping it. Television has been
recently making television shows which have a person of dark skin tone as the main
character which shows a fairer approach to this law. An example of this is BBC three's
teenage program 'Some Girls' which has a black main girl character and one of her friends is
a Sikh.
Privacy Law
Privacy Law is a law which deals with the use of peoples personal information and making
sure they aren't intruded upon. These laws make sure people can't have their information
wrongly used without permission.
This means that they can't tell the listeners peoples full names or any private details they
don't want revealed. For example, if a viewer calls in but they don't want their name to be
revealed then they can't say it.
This is also basically the same as radio, they can't use peoples full names without their
consent. This also means that if they take footage of someone they need to get that persons
permission before they air it on television.
The Copyright law protects things that are owned by a certain person. This makes sure that
no one else can take credit for someones work or you can't use something without getting
permission first.
They can't play certain music without getting permission from the people that created it.
They can't play music or show clips without getting permission from the people that created
it.
Libel Law
The Libel law is a law, which states that someone can't give out false information about
someone that could potentially cause them harm. Such as writing a quote that someone
said when they didn't actually say that, or portraying someone in a negative way when that
wasn't what happened.
On my product I made sure that I did not breach any of the above. I made sure that the
product was suitable for anyone for example different races and made sure any content on
my product wouldnt offend anyone. I did this by not using images and any video content
that are copyrighted so I will not break any laws. Also not using anyones work this includes
any assets or design of the product. Another way I did not break any ethical rules is that I
made sure that the text in my product didnt have any abusive language and made sure it is
suitable for my target audience.
Employee expectations and L&E
Respect, trust, positive social interaction, opportunities to contribute, and purposeful work
are all part of a solid foundation your employees expect you to provide. It's a great place to
build from, and to build truly magnificent culture, it's You know what else employees
expect? Autonomy and recognition.
Your new colleagues will expect you to approach the job with an open mind, so you can
quickly learn what you need to do it well. They will expect you to take instructions and
directions from the people training you and from your new supervisor. They will expect you
to be reliable. Arrive at work on time and do not leave until your shift is over. Call in to give
notice if you are sick and cannot make it in or are going to be unavoidably delayed.
For example: standard DVD players purchased in the U.S. or Canada will only play
DVDs that specify they are REGION 1 dvds; standard DVD players purchased in New
Zealand will only play DVDs that specify they are REGION 4 DVDs.
For example: Region 4 DVDs WON'T PLAY in a standard Region 1 DVD player; Region
1 DVDs WON'T PLAY in a standard Region 4 DVD player.
U.S.A. and CANADA share the SAME REGION CODE: Region 1. An R1 dvd purchased
in Canada is exactly the same as an R1 dvd purchased in the U.S., and vice versa.
Here is a list of DVD Regions and their corresponding countries:
R1 Region 1 - U.S.A., U.S. Territories and Canada
R2 Region 2 - Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
R3 Region 3 - Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
R4 Region 4 - Mexico, South and Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific
Islands, Caribbean
R5 Region 5 - Russia, Eastern Europe, India, Africa (excluding South Africa), North
Korea, Mongolia
R6 Region 6 - China
Manual
In all games now they include manuals which show feature a lot of the game in deph
instructions. Also it shows the settings for a game for example a game like fifa 17 the
manual will show which button works and how the buttons communicate with you.
Some games do not display manuals however it could be beneficial for the customer to have
this if they are new to gaming. Another part of the manual maybe discount codes which the
game shop provides in front of the manual or ad-ons to the game.
