At Just the Right Time

By Joe Lightfoot, Pastor of Adult Ministries Philip was led to a foreign
Contrary to our current perception here in official who—and this
the Midwest, God’s arranging of circumstances was no coincidence—was
and events is perfect, even when we can’t see reading the Bible. Philip,
it. Believers in the early church relied heavily accomplished at sharing his
on this as they lived out their faith. In the New faith, explained the story of
Testament book of Acts, an exciting adventure Jesus to the man. Then at
demonstrates this. Philip, a follower of Jesus, was just the right time—God’s
run out of town, but continued to share the story time—they came to some water and the official was baptized
of Jesus with great influence. In the midst of this as a public proclamation of his trust in Jesus for eternal life. In
exciting and successful ministry, God sent an angel to call Philip the same way, the baptisms you witness this morning as part of
in an entirely different direction with a completely new game plan. your worship experience are a public testimony of the personal
relationship these individuals have with Jesus.
Being baptized is a commandment of God and a step of obedi-
ence on the part of those who are baptized. As we read in the
account of Philip, God put the pieces together in His way and His
time. For Philip and the official, the water was there when it was
needed…at just the right time…God’s time. For the others today,
it is the right time for them.
As you participate in worship this morning, you will be
challenged to follow God’s timing. You will be urged to be ready
for God when He moves, whether immediately, as in the case of
Philip and the official, or at a specific point God chooses in the
future. What is important to remember is that God will bring all
of the necessary circumstances together in His time… at just the
right time.
