STATICALLY INDETERMINATE PROBLEM

STATICALLY INDETERMINATE PROBLEM:- When the static equilibrium equations are insufficient for
determining the internal forces and reactions on that structure. Such types of problem can be solved by
using boundary conditions.

Q.1. Determine reaction at support of the propped cantilever as shown in figure.

A w B

MB

RA L RB
Solution :-

Equations of equilibrium :-

=0 -------------------------------------(1)

=0

+ = ---------------------------------------(2)

=0 ---------------------------------------(3)

+ =0

Hence three Equations of equilibrium are not sufficient to determine the unknowns, thus the problem is
known as statically indeterminate problem. Such types of problem can be solved by using boundary
conditions. As point A is supported by simply support, the deflection at point A is A = 0
