DESCRIPTION OF THE LEARNER: Postpartum Mothers that were NSVD (Normal spontaneous vaginal delivery).
LEARNING NEED: Proper bathing of the baby

LEARNING STYLE: The client can easily remember and learn new things that are shown and discussed to her through discussion with visual aids.

LEARNING DIAGNOSIS: Knowledge Deficit: Bathing of the newborn related to lack of exposure

GOAL: The client will be able to apply the proper guidelines in bathing a newborn.

LEARNIG CONTENT

1. IMPORTANCE OF BABY BATH


-newborn receives a complete bath to wash away vernix caseosa (also known as vernix, is the waxy or cheese-like white
substance found coating the skin of newborn human babies. Vernix starts developing on the baby in the womb around 18 weeks into
pregnancy.).
2. EINC PROTOCOL
-newborn bathing should be delayed until after 6 hours (bathing the newborn immediately would develop hypothermia-
decrease in the normal body temperature and there would be a risk for infection, acidosis, intracranial hemorrhage)
3. BABY BATH
The room temperature must 24C to prevent chilling.
Temperature of the water to be used is 37-38C
Soap should be mild
Equipments needed:
2 basin with warm water
Dry towels
Diaper
Soap
shampoo
Baby blanket
Babys clothes (bonnet, mittens, long and short sleeved shirt, pants, booties)

Babys clothes must be prepared before bathing
Undress baby
Holds bay in football position
Fold ears while properly supporting the neck and head
Cleanses first the babys eyes with wet cotton balls
Wash face with water
Shampoo hair thoroughly
Puts baby in the basin while supporting the neck and head
Applies soap All over the body
Wash diaper area with soap
Rinse baby in the second basin with warm water
Pats dry the baby
Dresses baby correctly while supporting the neck and head
Wraps baby with a blanket.
