Aspirin
Chemicals properties
Aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid (C9H8O4 or CH3COOC6H4COOH) along with
other drug is found to be organic crystalline medicinals, and become amorphous after
mixing with adsorbent 1(substance which have a large surface area for adsorbing gases
or liquids) at room temperature. Its functional groups are carboxylic acid, aromatic,
and ester. It is also weakly acidic substance. This chemical is reported to block a
certain natural substance of pain and swelling in the body2.
Physical properties
Aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid a small gap between melting point and boiling
point which is 134 oC and 140 oC respectively. However, it is solid at room
temperature. It would appear to be white or colorless crystal-line powder. It is also
odorless, but would produce pungent odor like acetic acid when react with moist. It is
also soluble in water and ethanol3.
