SELECTIVE MUSIC CLASS


GENERAL PROYECT DESCRIPTION

This document describes a general view for the music selective class
in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade.

Ninth Grade
Approaching to music through Cinematography

Pop culture has been underestimated in its educational potential, in


this way it is sure that a critical consume of television, movies,
comics, and music could be more profitable for the student learning
than a long speech in a classroom.
In this class we will explore music from different angles in its relation
with the seventh art; so we will learn about Music as main topic in
movies, Incidental music, Soundtracks, Life stories through music,
Great musicians in the movies and Musical Movies. The work will be
divided between watching movies, workshops and group talks about
the topics. The main objective is learn that music is present in every
moment of life and can be used to tell a story, to decorate it, or be
the story itself.

Tenth Grade
Approaching to Choral Music

Every musical instrument was born in the attempt to imitate human


voice, we all sing either in our rooms, in the shower or on a stage. But
singing is something inevitable for human beings (and some animals).
Knowing the vocal potential we have in the school and after a
suggestion from the kids, i want to implement a choral work in which
the students can explore the possibilities of human voice (vocal
technique, accurate singing, vocal sampling), the musical work within
an ensemble and of course explore a complete new world in the
music.

Eleventh Grade
Sound Process in a Cinematographic Production

Music is about sound, and how sound impact our lives. Most of the
times we are not aware of this impact; sometimes we listen to music
without knowing it; even more, so many times people manipulate our
feelings and our thoughts with a sound, a melody or a couple of
chords.
In this class project we will learn about all the sound process taking
part of a movie production; the techniques used to record and create
an environment (Foley, Bank of sounds, field sound). The importance
of a Sound Track and how to incorporate an appropriated kind of
music to a scene, with meaning and coherence. And as a final project
we will create the whole sound production for a known movie.

Twelfth Grade
Rock Band

Also as a suggestion from the students, we want to work in a Rock


Band project, taking advantage of the knowledge, the skills and the
talent that some students have already developed. Knowing that
some of them want to follow the music as a profession or a high
importance facet of their lives, I want to give them some important
foundation of music theory, ensemble work, and repertoire practice.
This is also consistent with the most probably choice for the next year
s musical Rock of Ages
