Subject: Proposal to conduct a research project on the social networking sites on social benefits.

INTRODUCTION:

A social networking service (SNS) is a platform to build social networks or social relations among people who

share similar interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections. The variety of stand-alone and built-in

social networking services currently available in the online space introduces challenges of definition; however,

there are some common. The focus for my research is to determine whether the social networking sites create

benefits on society as well as students and what effects it had on them.

Now in Bangladesh, social networking is important for the connection of friends or family together which

allows people to communicate easily. People of all ages are flocking to the internet and are signing up for social

networking sites for the millions. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, pictures, posts, activities,

events, interests with people in their network. I would like to know how much experiences from social

networking sites affected the students of Bangladesh. I hope to find answers to such questions through my

research work.

RESEARCH QUESTION:

In my research, I plan to investigate the benefits of social networking sites. My research will address the

following research questions:

1. How the students are using the beneficial parts of social networking?
2. How social networking sites can be used as a platform for educational learning?
3. Does social networking have an impact on engagement and achievement of the students?
4. What are the gratifications drawn from social networking?

HYPOTHESIS:
Teenagers and young adults are among the most prolific users of social networking sites (SNS). From my

research I expect to find that teenagers and young adults have specially embraced social networking sites as a

way for social benefits. I think the social networking sites are plentiful, varied and easily accessible to students

for doing social beneficial work like protest against tax on education, protest against war criminals, and recently

the protest against the cafeteria of North South University (NSU) where students fell sick after having food

from there. It is expected that students propagating breaking news and coordinating disaster response for social

benefits. I also think that students use social networking as medium of job recruitment consultants. I also expect

that the students not only do know how to interact with others through social networking, they also know how

to use complex functions for social benefits like tracking down any phone number from Facebook.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:

For my primary research, I will conduct a survey of a representative sampling of the general public in Dhaka

and also students of North South University and interview people who actually think that social networking

sites are beneficial for our society and find out what significant changes are done by social networking sites. To

that end I will design a questionnaire with different types of questions. So that I get a range of useful data which

will help me to answer my research questions.

For my secondary research, I plan to use the resources of the library and will also conduct few books and

autobiographies of people etc. I will also browse the internet for collecting data.

ORGANIZATION:

My paper will be divided into several sections, the most important of which are the Introduction, Background,

Data Presentation and Analysis, and Summary of Findings. Within the sections my organization will be based

on my research questions.

TIMETABLE:
I hope to complete my primary research by the end of early July and my secondary research by the end of early

August. I shall complete writing the final draft of my research paper by the end of July, and submit it by the

specified deadline (the last day of classes) towards the end of this semester.
