Steps: ( There are 3 steps- scroll down to see everything)

1. Watch the video provided then write a paragraph (5-6 sentences minimum) answering
the questions below:

Q1 When do you think your Digital Imprint began? (You may want to ask your parents
about when they began posting information about you online.)

Click this link to participate in a Digital Footprint Survey (its anonymous) and

it will open in a new window which you can close and return here.

Q2 Think about the specific "footprints" or

information you leave behind on the sites on your
map (such as what you viewed, typed, or accessed).
If this was the only information someone had about
you, what would they think about you? What
assumptions would they make about your habits &
behaviors?

Q3 Make a list of sites you visit a lot. These might

include social networking sites (Twitter, FaceBook),
gaming sites, shopping sites, learning sites.

Step 2 Add a Visual to your paragraph(s)

Organize your list into categories and write them

onto a visual organizer that describes your digital
footprint, for example, all social networking sites
together, all gaming sites together, etc. You can use http://www.wordle.net/ or Prezi or Pic
Monkey to creat one or more images for your personal digital footprint.

Step 3 What devices do you use to access the web?

Think about all of the different digital devices you use daily. Your next task is to log your
own daily use of all digital media over 3 or 4 days which includes at least one weekend
day. Some examples include: phone usage, gaming (DS, Playstation, X-Box) playing,
surfing the internet, texting and so on.

Log your time spent into this useage doc or Design your own Google form or table to
track and summarize this information.
I think that my digital footprint began before I was even born because of the fact that my

hospital kept files on my birth with electronic charting.

As well, North York General Hospital has pictures of my ultrasound and they gave us

forms to fill out to immediately register my name and apply for my Social Insurance

Number. Next, my digital footprint really started to develop when my parents texted and

emailed all of their family and friends about my birth. In 2007 my parents joined

Facebook and were uploading several baby photos of me and using my first name in

the description. Later, when I was around 8 years old, I got into online gaming playing

games such as Webkinz and Wizard101. I was constantly on these sites but I never

shared personal information because that's what my parents told me not to do.

However, my parents did have to approve my membership for these sites. At age 11, I

got my first social media account, Instagram. On that account, at that time, I never

posted photos of my face but mostly posted things about the video games I enjoyed like

Minecraft and I chatted with other fan accounts as well. Even if I deleted any photo,

once you are on social media, everything can be copied and tracked so I believe my

footprint was well established at this point. Further, I played games with those people

over Skype and needed a handle which is a username. So withing the next 2 years, I

had a large digital dossier. Recently, in grade 7 and 8 I started posting pictures of my

face online and I got involved with more social media such as Tumblr, Facebook,

Snapchat and Twitter. Personally, I havent done anything wrong online and I do not

hurt people's feelings or do online trolling. If people looked at my old Instagram account,

they would probably think im a huge geek who plays nothing but video games! If they

looked at my new account, they would probably just see someone who loves playing the
guitar because it's all I post about these days. I really dont have anything to hide on the

internet and I am not worried about being exposed unlike online trolls and bullies.

Overall, I have tried to be careful over the internet but throughout the years I would say I

posted more and more personal information such as my last name, my face, and the

country I live in.
