Career Interests
The career interests that I have are, cosmetology and liberal studies. Cosmetology would
be my first option, to become a cosmetologist there are requirements you have to meet such as,
being a "social butterfly" is good because you need to communicate with your clients. Being an
introvert isn't and won't be good for your job. Another skill you should have is to be able to move
quickly. It's common to have accidents and spills so you need to be able to move quickly. Then
there is makeup, for makeup you need to be able to blend well and know how to match skin
tones.
Being a cosmetologist, you will have to communicate with the people around you. Being
a shy type of person isn't going to be good for your job, you'll most likely get a bad review and
maybe even fired because you don't fit the requirements for your personality. To be a
cosmetologist you should be an outgoing person and person and to be willing to be the
person to start a conversation. If your client wants to talk to you about advice or drama the best
thing to do is go along with it and help them by giving your opinion. The best thing to do is let
The most challenging part about this job is an unsatisfied client. Sometimes meeting a
clients expectations isn't always easy. You'll get those people that come in for a new hairstyle that
may be tough and the next thing you know, they aren't happy with what you've done. With
makeup you can easily take off and restart but with hair you can just shave their head and expect
it to grow back and start all over again. You will come across challenges but it's all worth it if
For my second career interest I chose liberal studies, I love children and I would want to
work with a young age group. Education is an anchor for young children. Critical thinking,
intentional teaching. Children learn by doing and being directed towards goals and success.
Practice and preparation with each student at their own pace of learning will guide them in the
So much of what young children learn is based off play. Play is highly important to a
child's learning abilities. The majority of activities children are given are hands-on learning
through games and technology. Everything they do is play. Play is made to be repetitive and is
intensively modified to help improve each students development. It is one of the easiest ways to
get the interest of a child, because without the interest their willingness to learn isn't there and
they fall behind developmentally. Play gives children physical coordination and motor skills.
There are so many types of play children take part in. A huge part of younger children's
play is their imagination and their ability to play with other children. Children are hands on,
messy, creative play with plenty of materials if available for self- selection. Symbolic and
meaningful play is common in the younger students because it allows them to explore and grasp
their own understanding. Giving them the opportunity to become creative and social. In this type
of play they learn their own interests. Constructive play is when the children create something
new. This would give them the most opportunity to become creative on their own. The use of
their imagination helps develop their mind and thinking skills. For example, playing in a sand
box or drawing with chalk on the ground, or even building with legos. Functional play is
repetitive. If the child is continuously practicing a skill they master it and it becomes a learned
skill. For example, opening and closing something or pushing and pulling a toy back and forth or
This could help me with teaching young children, and I could be a middle school science
teacher.
This school also has a good cosmetology program and could help me start my own
